This one is fantastic. What a guitar player. I can't help it, but it gives me goosebumps all the time I hear this. Gary is one of the best guitarists in the world.
Gary Moore is the most tasteful, masterful, passionate guitar player I've ever heard and I've been a musician (bass) for over 55 years. He is no. 1 in my book by far and beyond any other.
If we’re honest…. There are plenty of guitarist that can play lots of notes very quickly… HOWEVER… they don’t have the musicality that Gary had. He was a true talent and arguably one of the finest guitarists ever !
One of the greatest ever guitarist sean. Very under rated. As you can see he feels everything he plays just look at his stank face. Thanks so much for premiering Gary Moore he left his way too soon thanks again.
Can't go wrong with Mr Moore! One of the truly great blues players. Play any of his live performances and hang on. Blues oozed from his pores when he played. Sadly, not enough people had heard him play. RIP Thanks for posting this song.
The Montreaux Jazz Festival is more like a religious experience than a concert. Older audience, very knowledgeable. Performers knew they needed their A game.
Gary was the guitarist in Colosseum II before he started playing this blues style. He did Jazz Fusion like a monster. Desperado The Inquisition Fighting Talk From his solo album: Back On The Street: The Flight Of The Snow Moose Hurricane Would You Rather Bee Or A Wasp
Greetings from Germany...wow, thanx...just saw the title of your video. And, hell yeah, we are so excited to enjoy this after i finnish this comment. Your last reactions to my hero Gary Moore were the best i've ever seen, and i've watched thousands, serious..from myself and my little dog Sammy(today is his birthday, 15years) a Big THANK YOU...for making our day even more special. Believe me or not, my dog is, like me, a Big Iron Maiden & Gary Moore fan.( when i hear (sometimes) some Metallica, he leaves the room 🤪🐾🤘 keep on rockin & Stay Safe 💚🌻
Saw him live at the Finsbury Park Fleadh Festival almost two decades ago the best part of the day when he was playing. When he finished everyone shouted more and he did one more song
Paul clear. Swansea. Like ur reply I was there as well. June 2001 he was awesome as usual it was his bass players birthday and he played a flawless rendition of happy birthday for him superb performance. Thanks
I BITTERLY regret not seeing either of those 2 great virtuosos Paul and I was around then and could have but I did not know about Gary and assumed I would see Rory another time....which never came...
@@Isleofskye saw Rory in 83 and 87, when i was still in school, and then college. He was jaw droppingly good, especially the 2nd time, in Germany, when he played for over 3 hours (NINE encores! Crowd just wouldn't let him leave) Saw Gary in 83 on the Victims of the Future tour. His playing was face melting(it was his metal/hard rock period, and he played mainly a strat and a charvel), but his voice was ropey that night. Sorry i never got to see him during his "Blues" period. No one has or had a tone like his on the Les Paul
No less than an absolute blues legend himself Buddy Guy said that he wished that he could have seen Stevie Ray Vaughan and Gary Moore jam...and I couldn't agree more....but I don't think us mere mortals could have handled it... it would have been TOO MUCH... our heads and hearts would have exploded...
So glad you played this greatest live Montreux version of this song, its on another level. Unique tone and ability, the crowd totally hypnotised, he'll never know like Rory Gallagher how much he is still missed today.
Greetings from Germany. Damned, my friend..i'm done.. Your words, feelings you shared are way Moore as i aspected. I once was so lucky to were one of those in this crowd. Saw him back in 1989. A lifechanging expirience for me. Your reaction took me back in time, brought back lovely memories. Thanx for that...Honestly, for a second I was afraid you would be like others. Sorry🤣 Sadwise many are not able to let music emotional touch their hears and souls. Cause of that they are most stressed of his live Performance. And say 'thats too much, he overdo it, he is arrogant and showing of. That makes me sad. He loved his fans and he gave us what we wanted. Just imagine how hard it is to express yourself, honestly, pure, without carering how you look like(especialy his face play😄). In front of people. I'm very emotional too but often not able to show it in public. Thats sad for myself and hurts. Cause i dont know why. But he give me the strenght and faith to learn it. Everyday...(thanks, Gary) And believe me, it takes you much higher when you feel him live in person. Dude, i'm still hyped...again, thank you & bless you. Stefan
Fun fact, that guitar he's playing is called Greeny, it used to belong to Peter Green, made it's way to Gary, and is now in possession of Kirk Hammet of Metallica. It had an unusually long sustain because of the way the pickups were wired.
Much unappreciated in the US as he played mostly in Europe. Good friend of Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) and collaborated/played with him often!! He has an extensive catalogue... not a bad number in it!! I don't need to say anything else ... you'll be back!!!
I totally agree that Prince's Purple Rain was loaded with emotion and talent as was this amazing tune that Gary was playing. I was lost in the music and thanks so much for sharing this.
Over time you will probably be having more footage from the Montreaux Jazz Fest so here's a little hint, Montreaux is pronounced Mont-Row, it is in Switzerland, the X is silent. This is the same town where Deep Purple recorded the Machine Head album, with the song "Smoke On The Water", Montreaux has a long history in the rock world. Gary Moore is a guitar god by the way.
I thought that too. It looks EXACTLY like "Greeny" but this performance was 2010 and Gary had sold "Greeny" in 2006. So this guitar is either a replica (not an official Gibson one - they hadn't done one at that time) or he managed to borrow the real one from whoever owned it at the time. RIP Gary.
@@robertsoden5068 Yea, it's owned by Kirk Hammett from Metallica but he didn't get it until 2014. Between 2006 and 2014 it was in the hands of private collectors.

That's Peter Green's 1959 Les Paul Standard. Maybe not as a first reaction, but when you have time, listen to Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac for British blues very heavily inspired by Delta and Chicago bluesmen (and women! - Rosetta Tharpe) from the US. Musically, in the 1960's, white American popular music developed independently from the rich material right on its doorstep (with the exceptions of such notables as Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley) whereas young British musicians and their audiences loved the rich blues sounds from America (the Beatles and the Rolling Stones being two huge names) giving rise to The Yardbirds, Cream, Fleetwood Mac, etc. Listen to Love That Burns, Man of the World, and the live versions of Rattlesnake Shake, the Madge Sessions, and Black Magic Woman (covered by Carlos Santana). You will have a very rich vein to mine investigating British blues.
The master of sustain, and certainly could outrun on a fretboard most of the so-called top 10 guitarists that seem to make the lists. Not only a master on the guitar, but his vocal ability wasn't too shabby to boot. His playing ability was put to best use on these ballads that he could produce,to blues,to the hard out rockers, and not many of the so-called top guitarists could boast about that.Just my own biased opinion of course.
Totally agree with you Rob!! I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan six times, Jeff Healey 5 times and many other great guitarists over my 57 years. I saw Gary Moore 3 times! All are 3 of my favorite guitarist that blew me away each and every time! But Gary Moores versatility to play anything and everything was mind boggling to me! Just the viciousness in how he played, along with his guitar tone, for almost 3 hrs turned at full volume at the concerts I saw him at just pulverized right through my body! A true spiritual experience!! Also great voice which never failed in concert. GUITAR GOD!! Sorry about the long rant! I think that's the most words I've ever typed in one text!🤔😬😏 Rock on man! 🎸🎤🎶🤘✌
It will take you a lot of time but you need to watch more than 50 different live songs by Gary Moore! His live work is always the best! This isn't his best live version of this song!
My favorites are Gary, Stevie, Jimi, and Jerry. They all have talent and can show it, no face paint needed, no masks, no twerking, no huge theatrical stuff behind them, just the music and passion is more than enough.
For comparison, try Phil Lynott's version. I always thought he did better vocals because it is a real atmospheric song with the feeling of Paris more than any other song.
IMHO, the version found on One Night In Dublin (the tribute to Phil Lynott) is far superior to this one. He's phenomenal no matter what style he's playing; from his metal god 80's days to his later career blues. I recommend opening your ears to "Out In The Fields" or "Because of Your Love" from his G-Force album.
You just witnessed the greatest guitarist of all time...
R.I.P. Gary, maybe " Still Got The Blues For You " Live next.
INDEED! Still Got the Blues is one of my top 3 Gary Moore songs. The other 2 are Parisienne Walkways, and Blues For Narada.
i still play "Still Got The Blues" once a week on the juke box at my local bar!
One of the greatest guitarist that ever lived. Miss you Gary! I know you're jamming with Phil.
I don't cry often, but Gary Moore's incredibly beautiful guitar does it to me every time.
