"Song for Barry" is a masterpiece of musical art, with amazing solos and rhythm of all the musicians in their best and live performances. Musical explosion. Micheal is unique in his style and still lives in our minds.
One of the all time greatest bands!!! Huge Mike Stern fan and Dean Brown. Just saw Dean playing at the Iridium in NYC this past summer. And then he passed away in January. Heart breaking.
Yeeow! Incredible musicianship on EVERYONE'S part. I have to confess, I wasn't hip to the recently-late Dean Brown. Definitely should be on anyone's favorites list as a fabulous guitarist and improviser. Godspeed, Mr. Brown. Thank you!
Holy Cow, that is one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Those guys were diggiging so deep. And then you see a shot of the crowd and you wonder if they are into it as much as they should be.
Ahhh finally found this complete concert. Thank you for posting! Michael's EWI intro on Song For Barry is just next level. Also love Dean's playing as well.
Wow! This is excellent footage. Thanks for posting this. Rest in peace to Michael Brecker. Had the pleasure of attending a jazz improv workshop of Randy Becker's a couple years ago at a small church in Berkly Michigan. He spoke of their humble beginnings in Philly, told some great stories, how one of my favorite tunes, Some Skunk Funk came into existence, and more. It was an amazing, experience.

Magnifique. Comme d'habitude. Je ne connaissais pas ce concert. Le Chorus de guitare, vraiment très différent de ceux de Mike. J'ai beaucoup aimé. Merci pour le partage
I remember Mike in an intervier years later saying that they didn't expected the drummer to launch Some Skunk Funk at such extremely fast tempo, I think it is in this gig. LOL that explains the looks and the smiles.. EPIC Anyone remember were exactly is that interview?
@@tuomas3964 You are absolutely right, thsnk you so much! LOL, that's xtreme! only people like them could play this tune at that tempo and sound soulful with plenty of easeness and inventive, and zero showing off. What a BAND!

A big part of what makes the trumpet exciting to both listen to and play... As I do... Is that it is the most vexing of instruments to get to cooperate with the player. Most people never have to think about how some part of their body might feel different from day to day... Like something is sensitive as your lips. Some nights, it's transcendescent and leads you to places no other instrument could lead you. Other nights it kicks your freaking ass and you're like hey? What did I do? Really. And that's part of what makes it an adventure to listen to a great trumpet player. Whether he's having a great night or not. There's a story there. And yeah and a good night whether it's Randy or Freddy or Maynard... Look out! It's some of the most exciting shit ever. And it's exciting because it doesn't happen every time no matter who the hell you are. Not Miles not dizzy nobody. The truly great players are the ones with good batting averages though.
I have been listening to this album this week. Great to see this video of the performance

Dean’s solo on that should be up there with Kenny Garrett on Human Nature as one of the great extended solos.
James Genus on bass.. great stuff

That's not natural to walk backwards while chewing and eyes closed and communicating and playing guitar like that. YOU BETTER recognize the gifted !!
