  • Testing a hack on how to clean a dirty and sticky kneaded eraser. I used my kneaded eraser on charcoal drawings, which made it so dirty, it couldn't be cleaned off by simply kneading it anymore. The way I was storing it also made it slimy and sticky. I'm testing two hacks on how to clean a dirty kneaded eraser and how to make a kneaded eraser that's too soft and sticky, harder again. Let's see if they work! I'll also share how I plan on storing kneaded erasers in the future.
Some of you where not happy, when I said in my last kneaded eraser video that there's a point, when you can't clean it by kneading anymore and have to get a new one. So today, we're going past that point to see what happens!

Thanks for testing this out 😊
I was told by an charcoal artist of decades that the coloured Farber Castell kneaded erasers were the only kneaded erasers he had found to be good.
I have tried other kneaded erasers, and I experienced the same as you described in this video, and after that I only buy the coloured Farber Castell kneaded erasers.
I can use them for ages, and they even work when they are almost black.
And they even come in a nice box that you can store them in 😊

Hello!☺ What type of kneaded eraser from Faber-Castell did you get? I have one from them, but it is so soft that it won't hold any pointed shape nor erase well in general. Maybe I got the wrong type? It also came in a neat litte case and is called "Kneadable Art Eraser".

@@kpsoll it comes in three different colours, red, yellow and blue, and they come in a plastic container in addition to the kneaded eraser being wrapped in plastic.
I don't know if they have a spesific name, but I know they have grey that comes like that too, and I don't know if it's the same type, so I just go for the coloured ones.
You have to shape it again and again if you want it to be pointed, after all, it is not the same as a compact eraser.
And the main difference between those two is that kneaded erasers lift the charcoal/graphite up from the paper, with minimal damage to the paper, whilst compact erasers work by rubbing it off and changes the surface of the paper more easily.
      Hope that helps 😊

@@barbro6525 Thank you so much, this explanes a lot☺ That description matches the yellow eraser I've got, so it's good to know it lifts well! My first kneadable eraser must have been a compact one, since it's very firm in comparison and keeps its shape better. I will use the yellow kneaded eraser for its intended use from now on, and be more careful with the paper while rubbing with the compact erasers! I've never used charcoal and only use graphite for light sketching or simple drawings, so I have been unaware of the importance of proper lifting technique until now.
Once again, thank you so much for such a helpful reply!😍
