After 3 years of knowing this song I think i know what this song is about. So it's fairly similar to another person's theory but mine just has a bit more. Okay so let's start off with the fact we all know Mayu being a yandere- keep that thought. So it started off with Mayu finally in a relationship with the love of her life. Mayu being hypnotized in love, finally getting who she wanted, disregarded the rumors passed onto her by her five friends (there were 5 rectangles with "?" and 5 hands. Which possibly mean these friends are whoever we think they are- colleagues, friends, etc.) Thinking in the mindset of a yandere, they disregard anything from others;feeling threated of their happiness. "If you really want to, then that's okay with me"- she doesn't believe the rumors, just happy that she had her love. Then later finds out herself that the rumors are true; "I'm loosing my mind." Then it goes back to "I don't wanna do it" but she did it; she killed her friends and her cheating lover out of loosing her sanity. She says that she died at the end, but in the very end we see Mayu still alive, saying that misfortune may befall her. She could be talking about the people she killed, how such an act could lead to misfortune. "I just don't know" translating that she has lost her senses, her self worth, questioning herself. The very end "But even so" leaving future events up to us to depict. This is just my perspective of this song, repetitive, but catchy.

As much as I love this cover and your voice, I feel like the lyrics you went with lost some of the songs original meaning. The original song was about a girl who had been "doing crimes" for someone for a bit now and was caught. The line "If you really want to then thats okay with me" gives off a different meaning then the original translated lyric which was "If you really want to then just do it yourself." which implys she's been murdering for someone for a bit now and refuses to due it any longer due to her possibly being caught. I understand that japanese translated to english lyrics will need to be tweaked to make the song actually singable in english, but the line changed seemed a bit unnecessary? Also not sure why you felt the strong need to drastically change the verse from 1:46 to 1:56? Guys, this is a song about tv shows. Probably. Notice how her whole dress is entertainment themed? Like, pianos, notes, mixer knobs? And one thing that seems thematic is that she says she doesn't wanna do it, but does it anyway - sounds similar to people on TV saying bad things or the like. Just... Not wanting to but doing it anyway is just a common thing for journalism and mass media to do "we don't wanna show bias in our reporting", "oh we're actually hella biased" Now that last part is a bit of a push, but what gives it away is that the "do it all the time" part. All of the things she does there are TV tropes, or anime tropes - the close-up at the end, the rainy gloom, the dramatic side view part... And "there goes my every friend" is paired with the off screen for TV channels. And "see you all again" is something a lot of talk shows and anime say. The very end "But even so" leaving future events up to us to depict.
This is just my perspective of this song, repetitive, but catchy.

I think this song is about Mayu being yandere...? She has a crush on a certain someone, but they like someone else... And once she realizes that, her yandere mode activates... She very deeply dislikes her violent actions. Also she has a very deadpan expression for the majority of the video. This has probably done a lot to her now that I think even deeper about it... Maybe someone cheated on her...?

As much as I love this cover and your voice, I feel like the lyrics you went with lost some of the songs original meaning. The original song was about a girl who had been "doing crimes" for someone for a bit now and was caught. The line "If you really want to then thats okay with me" gives off a different meaning then the original translated lyric which was "If you really want to then just do it yourself." which implys she's been murdering for someone for a bit now and refuses to due it any longer due to her possibly being caught. I understand that japanese translated to english lyrics will need to be tweaked to make the song actually singable in english, but the line changed seemed a bit unnecessary? Also not sure why you felt the strong need to drastically change the verse from 1:46 to 1:56?

Guys, this is a song about tv shows. Probably.
Notice how her whole dress is entertainment themed? Like, pianos, notes, mixer knobs? And one thing that seems thematic is that she says she doesn't wanna do it, but does it anyway - sounds similar to people on TV saying bad things or the like. Just... Not wanting to but doing it anyway is just a common thing for journalism and mass media to do "we don't wanna show bias in our reporting", "oh we're actually hella biased"
Now that last part is a bit of a push, but what gives it away is that the "do it all the time" part. All of the things she does there are TV tropes, or anime tropes - the close-up at the end, the rainy gloom, the dramatic side view part... And "there goes my every friend" is paired with the off screen for TV channels. And "see you all again" is something a lot of talk shows and anime say.
