    I know it's been a pain in your duff but for me, the fact that roof insulation stayed up for nearly 40 years is a testament to how well those cars were built. I worked in Mercedes service during the dark days LOL. 98 to 2005. Here and there across most models but the ML was notorious for that roof insulation coming down. We saw them frequently with complaints of a noise when opening and closing the roof, along with black streaks of an asphalt- like material on the glass. It happened frequently with the side windows as well. And that was well within warranty on all of that.

      I was thinking of making a slit with a razor in the insulation and then spraying adhesive into it followed up with upward pressure using something wedged against it. OR...... should I just rip the whole interior out and replace the insulation? LOL..... I much prefer the former solution. Thoughts ? I'm open to ideas!

    Mr. Impalaman, I am feeling with you. I replaced the seal on my W126 Gen2 which has the gasket going all around on all four sides. I got the MB gasket and found that it went in in the middle part easier then on the corners. What further complicated the matter was the question of which side is up and down on those Gen 2 gaskets…….

    Good work, love your dedication to this car :D Whenever I fit new seals in my w123 I spray them with a silicon spray prior to installation, it preserves the rubber and makes slipping them into grooves much much easier than when they're squeaky dry

      That worked well for the front however I found that it caused problems for the rear one.

    The best way to put those seals in is to rub silicon grease on the rubber so it slides in the groove. Or you can use dish soap as a lubricant then hose off the dish soap after its in place. Makes it much easier.

      I've not used silicone grease. Will take a look. I tried the spray and it just made the job impossible.

      With that Mercedes seal falling apart like that I've re-ordered another one plus I've ordered a URO seal as well. I want to compare the two in the next video and decide which one to use.

    silicon would needed for rear seal maybe/also?

      No. The rear seal fitment is EXTREMELY tight. Silicone will allow the seal lip to fit into the slot easily but it also slips right back out. I tried it and had to clean everything really well to remove the silicone.

      All just my opinion of course. Someone with more experience may have better procedures.

      @@ImpalamansGarage Well, I sure hope my seal holds out a while longer considering what you went through. Same age as yours but fewer miles so maybe I'll be fine?
