I’m trying to learn what I can from the video but I’m starting to see a difference. I have an ‘88 W126 with the rear left sliding roof corner down compared to the rest of it, seemingly in alignment. I happened across the emergency operation of the sliding roof in an online manual, but I’ve got an additional white plastic gear with “heben” meaning raise and “senken” meaning lower to the rear of the red plastic cover you show here. Is the white plastic gear for the radio antenna? (It just clicked for me that it probably is)
The power antenna is a completely enclosed unit with no exposed moving parts other than the mast itself obviously. Not sure about the white gear you found. Email me a photo?
Where are the men in white coats? You know that talking about your self in the third person is the first sign of lunacy? 😆 🤣 😂 So what is it that's broken? Is it just the cable needs grease or the motor gears? I had to replace the cable on my 83 Peugeot. Not fun. I pretty much tore up the headliner getting it out. My 01 e320 panel only goes back a few inches then just bogs down. I hope it just needs the tracks greased. I'm not about to try to take it apart. How did you get the cable off the back of the panel?
Current theory is that old dried up grease is clogging up the tube so the cable will not move properly. More investigation is needed. Removing the cover off of the back of the motor and pulling out the gears allows the cable to slip out. I will go into that in a little more detail in part 3.
Great series on an important issue. Thank you for doing what you do and taking us along for the ride.
I love your Videos, your humor and your subtiles. GREAT!
Because of your videos I now dare to repair the W126 much more myself.
Thanks a lot
In this video I incorrectly referred to the lower tube as a water drain. It is simply the tube into which the cable protrudes when the roof is open.
the video was very helpful to me thank you
