Having Kevin there really helps to wrap your ears around this. As a guitarist myself, I have to say: _keyboardists often don't get enough credit._ Thank you both for the lesson. ^-^
"Lands on this flat G minor 7 with the 11th on top. Then from an E flat major to a C minor, then from C major to a D flat minor 7 flat 6. Then I connect that to an E flat minor 7 flat 6. And the last chord is a B minor 7." Ummhmm Ummhmm....yea.I understood some of those words.
@robotman200 Music Theory! You can definitely buy some books and get your stuff down. (And they used pretty simple chords apart from the jazzy part in the beginning. It was all maj7 and b5.) ;)
@ 1:29 ...i swear i always thought i heard synths playing that solo part from the Album, but used to think it was the guitar at first when i heard the demo... are both Nick and Kev playing it at the same time?
@SorryArchitect Not a fair comment...if you listen to there songs, you would know that he plays a role with the clean jazz parts...also, i can also hear the keyboard main parts of their songs sometimes... you should be asking "why is it that the interviewer didnt give him a chance to show more of what he does?" who knows...but you cant say that he dusnt know the song.... he's not a guitar player of course, but if he's asked about his keyboard parts, im sure he can explain...
@kratoz13 Haha Not at all. I'm saying that some Pantera fans are such die-hard enthusiasts to a constant 4/4 time and pentatonic blues solos, that they don't appreciate apparent creativity.
@217281728 Go to the Guitar Messenger site, the tabs and notation for this lesson are available there. As regards to tuning, its standard 8 string tuning, F# B E A D G B E.
@DeBuraInc01 I listen to Ever Forthright and i know he's an amazing keyboardist and he plays a key part in the band. I was just quoting the black dude from Get Him To The Greek...If you haven't seen that movie, watch it, laugh, then you can understand that i wasn't saying he doesn't know his shit. I'm just saying he sits awkwardly in the back in this video.
i totally agree with you on the tone. also i really wish that rapping part was never there, seems too random, doesnt fi and frankly isnt even that good imo. other than that the albums great. I think it grew on me because the melodic parts were kinda thrown in with everything else, but after a few listens you can really distinguish them from the madness.
Comparisons may be bothersome for the artists, but one can easily say Periphery is no longer alone at the very summit of groundbreaking innovative metal music. Periphery+Cynic+George Benson+Victor Wooten in a box.
I mean no insult, but this is the first time I have ever thought a band was too progressive. I can appreciate the technicality and vision, but when it all comes together it just sounds hectic.
I wonder why people keep comparing Nick to Tosin? They sound absolutely nothing alike... I dig Nicks style more, he's much more aggressive and writes music that's more appealing to me. I always get Ever Forthright's music stuck in my head, but I could never get CAFO or any Animals as Leaders songs in my head. Not to say Tosin is bad, he's amazing, and I love Animals as Leaders but I personally prefer Ever Forthright.
@ubershredder1989 Oh, I know why you think that, you listen to older metal. Not judging man, but technical metal obviously isn't for you if you're a Pantera fan.
Or pick your guitar up and actually make an effort to learn music. You learned a language you weren't born with by the time you were 10 years old, this is no different. Just make the effort.
I spent 6 minutes looking in Kevins eyes. Learned every song you guys ever wrote.
Having Kevin there really helps to wrap your ears around this.

Thank you both for the lesson. ^-^

that first riff sounds sooooooo much better slow with that clean tone.

@FrettingCajarot actually, he's the metronome
@dimeowns100 Ours worked find out of the box. although, nicks guitar and my guitar feel slightly different, even though its the same model.

@SxExMARCx It's 28.625
@robotman200 Music Theory! You can definitely buy some books and get your stuff down.

What's the scale of the agile? 28.625 or 30? And awesome music!
@ 1:29 ...i swear i always thought i heard synths playing that solo part from the Album, but used to think it was the guitar at first when i heard the demo... are both Nick and Kev playing it at the same time?
i dont mean this in a demeaning/ignorant manner, but the presence of that black makes this video 20x more awesome!
@SorryArchitect Not a fair comment...if you listen to there songs, you would know that he plays a role with the clean jazz parts...also, i can also hear the keyboard main parts of their songs sometimes...

I love this more than muffins... and that says alot because I freaking LOVE muffins!
The song at 0:05?
@kratoz13 Haha Not at all. I'm saying that some Pantera fans are such die-hard enthusiasts to a constant 4/4 time and pentatonic blues solos, that they don't appreciate apparent creativity.
Lol this is the first time I am seeing Nick with a goatee.
Do you play with a high A? Or a Low F?
I've heard agile 8 string guitars take loads of work to get them to a playable standard
@theflavasava2 i agree
Kev is like "hit that shit son"
@217281728 Go to the Guitar Messenger site, the tabs and notation for this lesson are available there. As regards to tuning, its standard 8 string tuning, F# B E A D G B E.

I don´t know what the hell is he talking about, but it sounds great!
Wow, this shit is sick!
Actually it is, if u dont wanna miss out on something great, sit your ass down and let it grow on you
Agile!
@theflavasava2 I wouldn't say exactly this style but your semi right. This band is unique in many ways compared to bulb's periphery's stuff.
great musician! all the way my taste but def underrated
woah
@SuperYouGerT
Periphery and Animals as Leaders were doing this years before (speaking of bulb)
i totally agree with you on the tone. also i really wish that rapping part was never there, seems too random, doesnt fi and frankly isnt even that good imo. other than that the albums great. @7Kiymaira7
yeah it was more the sentence which said this even forthright invented this style that offended me :D
@FrettingCajarot why so serious? :D
agile guitars ftw
tosin abasi on keys!
@KillswitchEngage42 are you bashing on pantera fans?
@ubershredder1989 Too complicated for you?
Dear Whitechapel, you dont always have to play breakdowns damn it
Challenge completed
@theflavasava2 not exactly
DJAZZ!!!!
Comparisons may be bothersome for the artists, but one can easily say Periphery is no longer alone at the very summit of groundbreaking innovative metal music. Periphery+Cynic+George Benson+Victor Wooten in a box.
If you have a black guy in your band, let alone a black keyboardist, you are destined for great things.
"Do you know how to play this song?" "Naw man, I just stand here and make the Africa face" *plays keys*
wow, I laughed way too much at this haha.
I thought dealing with 6 strings was hard enough. Wow.
fuck he's good
I have no idea what is going on.
is this guy a machine along with tosin ....the terminators are here
But the distorted tone is kinda weird...
good guitarist! not too much my taste but def skilled :)
@LoyalHelena nord stage ex
Agree. I could not just sit down.
@SorryArchitect ...hmm.... okay..no problem
haha same here.
I mean no insult, but this is the first time I have ever thought a band was too progressive. I can appreciate the technicality and vision, but when it all comes together it just sounds hectic.

@KillswitchEngage42 ah, okay :3
This was magically delicious
Agile guitars.
Metal.
okey..Agile guitars a freakin' good..
This is amazing. Literally the ONLY thing I am not digging is the guys tone. other than that, this is great.
@ubershredder1989 Oh, I know why you think that, you listen to older metal. Not judging man, but technical metal obviously isn't for you if you're a Pantera fan.
this makes me feel rly dumb as a musician, cuz all i can do is playing powerchords
I just heard about these Guys now and they sound amazing, although he isn't a good teacher
@robotman200 You study. -_-
Take Jazz chords..and mix it with Metal and distortion, and slam between clean and distortion=sex
@phaelo1982 speak ingrish
You aren't just dumb as a musician. Trust me.
0 dislikes \m/
Fuck.
Or pick your guitar up and actually make an effort to learn music. You learned a language you weren't born with by the time you were 10 years old, this is no different. Just make the effort.
this sucks.. sounds much better clean than it does distorted.. and the time signatures are so complex its not music you could really sit and listen to
