    I've been in a Lufia mood recently but couldn't really find any videos that dive deep into the series as this one seems to be doing(I'm just starting it), so I appreciate it!
    Both you and Lufia are hella underated.

    Lufia 1 and 2 are very underrated. I agree that Rise of the Sinistrals is held together by string and scotch tape, but still holds true. Easily one of the best RPGs ever made in my opinion. It holds a special place in my heart

    Back in 2009, a friend of mine handed me a USB stick with hundreds of Super Nintendo ROMs on it. I guess he had downloaded nearly the entirety of the then-available SNES library in ROM form, because it felt limitless.
    In any case, one thing that I liked to do was go through every game alphabetically (unless it was obviously a sports or racing game) and try it out. I discovered a lot of "hidden gems" that way, and Lufia was one of them. It made finding games like this really unique and special, since I didn't have the internet to look them up. It felt like something that only I was really playing.
    In any case, nice to see another upload from you and your underappreciated channel.

      It was a similar experience for me. I stumbled upon the wonders of emulation as a kid, and ended up getting introduced to the SNES library that way since I didn't own one and didn't know anybody that I did.
      Lufia 2 was one of my favorites, along with other JRPG classics like the Final Fantasy games and Chrono Trigger. It was like I had an endless supply of awesome games to play.

      @@MerryBytes Neat! I did have a SNES as a kid, but just the obvious games like Donkey Kong Country (3, actually), Mario All Stars, Super Mario World. I had a few more niche titles like Uniracers and The Firemen by Human Entertainment, which I recommend if you haven't played it.
      I do wish I'd grown up with JRPGs from that age, but I only got into them around the time I turned 9 or 10, when I got into Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X as a result.

      @@comfylain I rented my share of RPGs back in the SNES days. However, when I moved over to the N64, the system had next to no RPGs at the time, and I was heavily invested into shooting games.
      I remember renting Uniracers. Upon looking back, I still cant believe how poorly Nintendo and DMA design (aka. Rockstar North) handled the copyright case Pixar brought forth. That should have been an easy case for them to beat Pixar with, but they didnt.

    I often believed that Lufia was originally written while the Neverland employees were at Wolfteam. However, Telenet Japan (Wolfteam's parent company) went through quite a bit of internal restructuring at that time, and money was tight, so Wolfteam cancelled the project and laid off quite a few employees (and other employees quit).
    These employees took the project over to Neverland with them (changing a few things to get around copyright law), and they were likely working on a Japanese computer version of the game (so I was right about its origin on the PC98, although I thought it was X68000). Odds are, Neverland needed the financing, and Taito gave them the money to see the project through. Taito likely were the ones that encouraged them to make this game an SNES project just so it could reach international markets (but there's no proof).
    You can tell there are some similarities between this game and Wolfteam's game, Tales of Phantasia. Even the villain's name is Dhaos.

    And that's why lufia and the fortress of doom should be remade into lufia 2 engine with puzzles, roaming monsters, party members and arek the absolute.

    You gotta talk about Lufia 1's soundtrack which is incredible

    • @scottythegreat1
      @scottythegreat1 9 месяцев назад +1

      I find it amazing that Yasunori Shiono did his own sound programming. This was very common for composers in the 1980s, but by the time the 1990s came around, it was unheard of. The first game's soundtrack sounds more like it was written for a Yamaha sound chip (the Genesis, the PC98 and X68000 computer used different variations).

    My only knowledge of the series was watching a guy play the DS version and me playing the DS version years later and I found myself enjoying it quite a bit. Maybe it was due to the fact that I was starting to like action RPG's a little bit more than the turn based ones but this series does sound pretty interesting at least when we get to the second game. Afterwards I can imagine that it gets pretty much monotonous but still a soild review of these two games!

    I remember, as a teenager, playing The Legend Returns (I think it was that one?) for the GBC on an emulator. I remember it being, as you put said early in the video, one of the most JRPGs I played. I do remember that the New Game+ feature was neat, allowing you win win some of the game's "unwinnable" fights, which was cool.
    You know, given what I know of your tastes from your channel I wonder if you've played/would enjoy the video game Nostalgia?

    • @MerryBytes
      @MerryBytes  Год назад +1

      Yep, The Legend Returns is on the GBC. It's flawed, but it does have some unique elements like the bizarre combat system.
      I think I've played Nostalgia back in the day, but only for a couple of hours. Haven't touched it ever since.

    • @Shenaldrac
      @Shenaldrac Год назад +2

      @@MerryBytes Yeah. It wasn't bad, I had fun playing it while having Battlestar Galatica on in the background. Or watching BSG while playing Lufia Returns in the background might be a better way of putting it. Nostalgia I played until I think close to the end but just fell off due to the need to grind.

    Believe it or not rubies are actually red sapphires, sapphires can come in multiple different colors. They just call the red ones rubies. I think they are rarer or something.
