Lemmy was an interesting guy. I heard he lived in a small apartment even throughout his entire music career - it was located near Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles. He didnt have an interest in material possessions and didnt own a house even though he had more money than he ever needed.

You're correct with the bit about the apartment. He often said "you can only ever be in one room at a time" when questioned about why he didn't live in a big house. Sadly though, he didn't actually have much money. When he passed, he was expected to be leaving an estate north of $10M, but actually passed with less than 500k to his name. He had two things which were materialistic obsession's; books and nazi memorabilia. Extremely well educated, knowledgeable and with a thirst for understanding, one can hardly be surprised that he surrounded himself with such things.
