  • A casual conversation with Bob Binnie at the February 23rd meeting of the Brandon Area Beekeepers' Association.
    Bob began his career more than thirty years ago working with a Oregon commercial honey producer. For three years, he worked 24/7 following the pollination season from California’s San Joaquin Valley, to Southern Oregon, on to Washington and ending the season in North Dakota, traveling more than 65,000 miles each year. Working all day with the bees and moving them at night; for $80 a day. But his learning curve was steep both in what to do to be successful and as importantly (or maybe more so) what not to do to be a successful commercial beekeeper. In 1991, he moved to Georgia and started his own operation. In 2016, Blue Ridge Honey produced more than 1.2 million pounds of raw honey which they sell in more than 300 retail shops, grocers, their own store in Lakemont, Georgia and online.

    Here in South Carolina during the last week of February I was delighted to find boxes (single deeps) with 8 frames of bees. Problem is I run 8 frame equipment. Over the winter I built double screen divider boards after watching Bob’s videos. I didn’t even look for the queens. Made sure there were eggs in both boxes. On March 5th I had queen cells in every split. During those days we had nights that were sub freezing. Will check splits and divide new hives to a new yard in about two weeks. Our wild cherry trees are about to bloom in 7-10 day. Which will be the time our first suppers will go on. Because of the double screen divider boards our spring buildup peaking with the honey flow will be our best effort yet. I’m sold on them. Thanks Bob!

    For Question about the things like honey bee healthy. Fredrick Dunn on his youtube has did tests and can answer the questions. Yes Bob does look and remind me of Kenny

  • @td4190
    @td4190 3 года назад +1

    As far as feeding your bees Honey Bee healthy and things like that I noticed that when I feed my chickens enzymes my bees will drink their water that day but they never go to my chickens to drink their water unless I give them enzymes...so I think honey be healthy would be a good thing to feed your bees from time to time

    Are mites tolerating or developing resistance to oxcilic acid?

  • @td4190
    @td4190 3 года назад +1

    Bob do you bottle you honey with just one type of honey crop for each real type. That sounds very hard but kool. Does that increase your sales enuff for the work. I definitely prefer spring honey over summer. But being only a hobie bee keeper I can't really do that

  • @lenturtle7954

    Oxalic acid breaks down into formic acid and carbon monoxide at 372F
    And at 315 F oxalic acid sublimes
