I have 43 and I discovered PT before half a year and I just enjoy it. We have technology and we can only sit in front of the monitor and find all the good music of the world! Only 20 years ago, you could not have been so easy and free to get the music you want. We live in weird times, and I think we're making a positive use of what we can, so we're a little older we've grown up on vinyl and tapes, so record with friends on a tape recorder or later, from tape on tape and everything until it's gone Mp3 and digital devices and the media. I love music very much, I'm an audiofil and a day without music for me is not a good day! :)
The Burning Sky, voyage 34, Idiot Prayer (my fav one), Moonloop....i LOVE this kind of ballades by Porcupine Tree, true breathtaking mindtrips, just the best music around.
I was introduced to Porcupine Tree with the album "Up the Downstair" in the late 2000's, but it was the remastered version with Gavin Harrison's drum parts. Today is the first time (incredibly) that I hear my favorite track off "Up the Downstair", but its original version... Still excellent to my hears :D
"It will rain..." suffers along with "And the swallows..." from a tinnitusesque background sound but compositionally its very solid and full of original and nice touches, I especially enjoy the percussive breathing in "And the..." and the interplay between the instruments in "it will rain... ". PT is everything I want in music. Its sweet and brutal, chaotic and harmonic, innocently child like and precociously mature. In short the best band Ive ever heard!
It's been 8 years since your comment and still someone has to come up with a better description of Porcupine Tree's music. You are still spot on! I'm still a bit sad they disbanded...
The ripples in the light, in the corridor of life, fighting in between the energy, and warmth in side ,....streaming, pulsating energy, with warmth and a smile, ..taking , taking a while.............A ripple breaks free, and submerges into light,.. energising a breath,.. into a shimmering night...........Echo, and reverb, takes hold of this world,..a gasp of breath , of air,... and behold,.....I'm following the angel in the light that I see,..running and dancing till I'm inbetween, . the magic of life, that I find myself in...twisting and turning, to a heaven in my dream..
Jupiter Island is the worst one but Linton Samuel Dawson might be one of my favourite Porcupine Tree songs ever! It comes at you with this delightfully cartoonish insanity and bounce that is absolutely irresistible to me. Queen quotes crowley is atonal and messy but its is intentional and sounds kind of cool like Stockhausen gone rock. I like the way the voice sounds really close in Space Transmission but it is pretty pointless. On the sunday of life is beautiful.
+IntermediateJesus Regarding the comment from AbstractVice; while I can not answer to your post I may still comment that part. At first, what AbstractVice wrote seemed strange to me but now I am almost sure that that lol was a relief lol; a lough at the moment someone gets all his/her anxiety and fears gone in a breeze
Sucked?...Yeah well okay. Except for Nine Cats,Linton Samuel Dawson,The Nostalgia factory,And the swallows dance above the sun,This long silence, Radioactive toy. All of them come to think of it. Even the interludes were kind off entertaining and Begonia Seduction Scene is as pretty as anything. And even back then Steven was a master soundscaper. The first album is easily the most whimsical. But PT really hasnt done anything but amazing albums.
Nine Cats, Footprints, Radioactive Toy and Nostalgia Factory are the only really good songs, the rest is okay (Jupiter Island, And the Swallows.., It will Rain..) or downright dumb or filler (especially L.S.D., Queen Quotes Crowley, Message.. and Space Transmission). UTDS doesn't have any really bad songs except 3 pointless fillers and I don't like the title track very much.
Thank you for your honesty. I am amazed you haven't been attacked by PT Sychophants who find every bar a musical masterpiece. Ironically, I bet band members of this and any group know, there are clunkers and meh works on their albums. Fifty to seventy minutes of high quality material is damn tough to come up with. This song is part of a 56 Best of PT offering by a fan. Most all the tunes on his list were decent. He made the list as a fan with love and historical knowledge. The evolution and maturing of PT is fun to explore. The youtube feed I got after first hearing the new C/C album had a bunch of not impressive works. I was blown away by the whole C/C album to the point of buying the $75 pkg with extras. The youtube feed left me scratchin' my head. The Best of Porcupine Tree list stopped the scratchin'.
58yrs old..heard this for the first time tonight..THIS SO ROCKS! WHEEEEEE!
Never too late, bro. Never too late. :)

Imagine that Wilson made this track at his home all along)) using his guitar keyboards and drummachine
I really love that F# chord during the bridge.. better known to me as the "Hemispheres chord."
My favorite part of the song :) Simple but so good
Referring to Rush's Hemispheres?
@@CarolH2O Of course! Opening chord to Hemispheres.
The song that introduced me to Porcupine Tree.. It rocks!

What are you talking about? Jupiter island is awesome track.!
@@Afterdark68 It overstays its welcome. But the first minute is pretty cool I guess.
Huh? Jupiter Island is dope! Linton Samuel Dawson is great, props for the Stockhausen reference too.

Meh never was a big Putin fan anyway. But yeah you do have terrible taste sir.
