A wedge has been out in my shoe to try it out and the lain hoas gone! I still have inflammation I the knees and so on but I feel this will now correct itself when I get orthotics. A simple test you can do to determine whether the problem is functional or anatomical is to lay on your back with your knees bent and your heels lined up. Then put something flat across your knees. If it's slanted, you have an anatomical problem. If it's level, your problem is probably functional (muscular, pelvic, etc...)

Hey Guys, I've been having extreme pain in my right knee, for about 4 months now. I did not injure it, I have put on a few pounds, but if that were the reason for the pain I assume both knees would be in pain. Anyways, about 2 weeks ago my left knee did start to hurt. Then I wondered if it could be my arches. So I tried one of those Dr. Scholl's Foot Stations at the local store here and it did confirm my arches were basically flat. I purchased a pair of insoles that provided support and the pain in my left knee went away. But the pain in my right remained. Ok, I told you all that to ask this, could one leg shorter than the other cause knee pain, and do you think I'm on the right track with these shoe inserts? Thank You, and Sorry about being long-winded!
After a left distal femur fracture 9 months ago and undergoing 2 immediate surgeries-ending with ORIF, then nonunion healing leading to (3months ago) hardware removal, compressing the bones together, bone graft from the right femur & replacement of the plate and 12 screws my left femur is now 1 1/4” shorter than the right. Any suggestions/thoughts on reducing/preventing back pain & on heel lifts?!?

The legs are the same length but the hip placements are different. Therefore if one leg is higher, that leg doesn't reach as far down. Therefore, extra height is needed

What about the consequence on your ankle flexion and range of motion due to a heel lift? Isn't that a potential problem that may just compound the issue?
Yes it’s a big deal-I have half inch discrepancy since a hip replacement and in-shoe lifts (surprised Bob & Brad suggest paper towels rather than the plentiful available lifts actually made for this purpose in various heights) will quickly mess up your foot due to not enough room in the toe box. For now I use in-shoe lifts but am slowly purchasing very good shoes and having them altered until I’ll eventually have a revolving wardrobe of expensively altered shoes because those lifts are not a sustainable option for all the reasons you mention. And I’m going to have to do exercises that target stressed areas for the rest of my life. Not optimal!

Hey guys! Thanks for taking the time to post this. I have had back problems pretty much all my life, one of my legs is shorter than the other. My big question is about 6 years ago, my hips started to pop. I mean inside the groin area, while I move my leg and it's unexpected. I do not know what that is or means. I've researched for months and nothing. The "Pop" used to be somewhat painful but now, I welcome them and they absolutely indicate my stress level is lower and my pain level is lower. Any insight or idea what this could be?
My right leg is shorter than my left leg. When I lay down on my stomach, I can lift my left leg off the ground bavkwards, I cannot do that with my right leg. When I sit on my buttocks with my legs existences in front of me, my right foot is about 1-2 inches shorter than my left foot. If I extend my left foot outwards, I can sit my right foot on top of my left foot, when I do it with my right foot, my left foot becomes even with it. I can’t afford a chiropractor and the only thing that brings lasting comfort is my AbLounge. Hanging upside in that for a couple minutes relieves the pain but it never fixes it.
I have some question sir. I have a femure fracture on my right leg and it became shorter than the other one. Would it be back to normal until i fully recovered? Thank you for your response sir.

What if the left leg is longer then the right as a result of a failed attempt of a chiropractor to adjust the right sij and instead of adjusting it he pushed something that made it inflamed? Also now the left (longer) leg tends to be more numb than the right... #didn't have any leg discrepancy and/or inflammation prior to that adjustment...
I have pain in my right leg but my parents thought it was on flat foot because my sister had a flat foot growing up and my parents that I had flat foot so we went to the foot doctor and the doctor said that my right leg is longer than the other and then the doctor said that I need to see a spine doctor because it might have to do with my spine because I had pain in my spine as well as my pain for my foot
Are u sure? Think again mate. Imagine two ropes tied on a straight rod. When u tilt the straight rod the side which goes up, the rope on that side becomes Short. Same is with the pelvic floor the side with pelvic up becomes short in length not tall
+KARAN SAWHNEY You seem to be describing a functional leg length discrepancy, where the muscles of the side waist are pulling from above to hike one hip (your rope analogy). They are describing a true leg length discrepancy where the bones in one leg are longer so when standing that same side hip is elevated (think pushed up). I think part of the confusion is that they also mention a twisted sacrum (which also either drops or elevates one hip due to twisting forces, falling into the category of functional leg length difference) but move on to talk about the bones.
+KARAN SAWHNEY you're forgetting the fact that unlike rope, legs have to balance on the ground. A better analogy would be, take 2 sticks of different length and make them stand on a flat surface. Now look at the top of the sticks, the longer one's end is obviously higher than the shorter one. Same with legs. I have a leg length discrepancy. My right leg is longer and when I stand, my hips are slanted so that the right side pelvic is higher.
You doctors contradict each other my short leg is the one with the higher hip because it's being pulled up Ans my lower hip my left leg is longer because it starts lower so it appears longer or I just have anterior pelvic tilt that I hide really well which is the same I actually put a heel in my long foot for 10 min which corrected most of the problem I have half an inch left
I may have one leg shorter than the other even though the difference is invisible. I realized it because I am a runner and lately, every time I run on asphalt which is going down from left to right, I am very uncomfortable in my right foot. If the terrain goes down from right to left, that's not a problem. Also, I have dead skin on the outer side of my right heel and on the inner side of my left heel....I am still confused whether which leg is longer....do you have advice for this kind of small difference that affects running? I use Vibrams five fingers. It's the only shoes that are more comfortable... Thank you.
I have been walking around in pain for some time. Have had two complete his replacements. The second operation required cadaver bone. I also had to have the right one done a third time since it kept popping out. The Dr. said there was a leg length discrepancy but it wasn’t an issue at the time. I believe this has started to flare up. Since I’ve had it so long will it take longer to feel relief. Also it is most severe on my right side. Which leg is longer
If I walk across a slope where the slope is downwards to the right I do not have any problems. However. If the slope is upward to the right I get really bad sciatica. Any suggestions as to possible causes? Could my right leg be longer than my left causing leverage on my pelvis etc?

I was in pe today my pumps were the right same both and one foot was really tight and I get pain sometimes in my left leg will I have to see my doctor
Hello, thank you very much for this. Please would you help me? I have this problem and it is bad that even in cross size/section is smaller on the shorther leg's side... my gluteal muscles are smaller, too.. do you think I should complete it with some kind of aid or can I train the muscles? The bone is also thiner than the other side but I guess if I strengthen the muscles more than the other side, at least my crista iliacas will be same level when I sit... But I would appreciate your thoughts. I struggled a lot because there is no many knowledge in the issue...
My hip joint on the longer leg's side is painful anyway... do you think it is cartilage wear? :(
I know I'm late to the party as it's an old video but I have this. Broke my femur a few months ago and had internal fixation and external reduction. Right (bad) leg is shorter now. I'm improving slowly but I need a rollator.
After left hip replacement, my excellent PT tells me that I'm about 1" longer in that leg. I have lower back pain on the left. Should I raise the right heel by 1/2"? Seems like a lot and I'll end up walking out of my shoe.
YES
After a left distal femur fracture 9 months ago and undergoing 2 immediate surgeries-ending with ORIF, then nonunion healing leading to (3months ago) hardware removal, compressing the bones together, bone graft from the right femur & replacement of the plate and 12 screws my left femur is now 1 1/4” shorter than the right. Any suggestions/thoughts on reducing/preventing back pain & on heel lifts?!?
Exactly what happened to me I had a grade 3 distal femur fracture from an accident 5 months ago and I have the same problem my leg is short
Thanks for sharing. My question is if the left side of the leg is the sore one would this mean it's the short leg or the long leg
My shorter leg is painful.
With me it's the longer leg actually.. And it's more so my hip on that side that hurts not so much the leg itself.
I have hip arthroscopic hip surgery 2 months ago I felt on my surgical leg is longer and I felt my femoral head not really on the socket and I can fully straighten my knee. Fells weird. But when I go lay down fells like is the same length.
hello sir, thanks for your lectures, but please what if that leg uneven nature is as a result of a knee problem[the knee seems to be bend following and misalignment during treatment
it does work i got an insert today and it helped my back pain (debbie)
After my trivia and femur surgery, my right leg became shorter then the left one
Is there any method available to remove this leg discrepancy
My 10 year old had this and her back is arched, who should I take her to see? She complains of leg pain and ankle pain often.
Orthopedic doctor
I'm so CONFUSED. Not to sound ignorant but if my right hip is HIGHER than the left---doesn't that mean that my right leg is longer??? I've been advised to place a foot lift in my right shoe, I'd hate to be doing the wrong thing for so long. Pls advise
The legs are the same length but the hip placements are different. Therefore if one leg is higher, that leg doesn't reach as far down. Therefore, extra height is needed
last year i got a notification on my iphone telling me that my walking pattern isn't ok . this year i started having hip pain though i walk alot and exercise often . could my phone be wrong?
I'd like primary/key joint protection advice for people having tilt issues. Areas to brace/support for training & reinforcement when areas are weak.
I have my right leg 0.5 incn short any solution for that.. people asks me are you having pain in your leg. And i yes yes due to work schedule..
Good day, I was injected wrongly when I was 4 years old and affect my right leg I'm currently 26yrs, my left leg is longer than my right leg and which is making me embarrassed, I can't walk normal because of the short leg, it will be great if you can tell me what to do, I don't mind undergoing surgery to make the two legs equal😥
Please I have a brother a who is going to 5 and can’t walk his right leg is longer than the left it’s been a problem in the family we have visited so many hospitals no solution what can we do ?
if one was to break their leg at a young age (2 maybe 3 years old), could that have an effect on one leg being shorter than the other down the road?
thank you for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it.
ZUPPA DI POLLO
Especially if the break was on the growth plate
Are there ways to distinguish structural from anatomic.. and do they co exist
Long time hockey player I have felt this lately its fucked up
I had an uncle in the NHL who actually, even off ice, walked like he was still on it, leaning like he was holding his stick all the time.. I can not help you, sorry. But your comment reminded me of him!
What about the consequence on your ankle flexion and range of motion due to a heel lift? Isn't that a potential problem that may just compound the issue?
Not to mention it's a very limited fix unless you wear shoes 24/7
My right leg is about a 1/2 shorter than my left leg. I have a burning, sharp pain in my left hip. Could this be SI?
Well In 2016 i had really bad pains in my right leg, spine and back it took us a while to find out what it was and when i was youngers i didnt hurt at all but last year i had atleast 7 MRI scans(Im not sure what it for American People)But i had 2 X-rays and i didnt pick up anything until about a few weeks they found i had a thumor in my leg but i have like insole to make my legs level so it doesnt make it look like im liping.it really bothers me becuase i do gymnastics and i have to standup straight but i cant so i might surgery either now or in a few years time but im quite scared on what they are going to do to me or if wont be able to walk or do gymnastics,go on the trampoline ever again😢😀thanks for the video ik its a few years old but it was helpful😀BTW im 12

How do I fix it. I have pain on my left side. The told me to wear the heel lift on my left side. What do you think.

my right leg is bigger than left leg
i am facing problem in walking and running
Mines too and i have been having knee pain on this bigger one and swollen and much muscular . Are you wearing insoles. These can only solve our problem. I hope i get used to them.
Hello docs, I try standing in my left leg and my right hip goes up . What does it mean?
What is the joint they say in 0:25
I have this and the hospital gave me a correction sole which helps with some of the problem I had when walking but my right side lower back is still really sore a lot of the time.
Easier to draw a line over both ankles.. Then lie flat on the floor and have someone see if lines match uo
***** Thank you for the reply.
What if my hip is out of alignment to?
I have some question sir. I have a femure fracture on my right leg and it became shorter than the other one. Would it be back to normal until i fully recovered? Thank you for your response sir.
How did it go?
Had tkr on left knee 13 months ago. That leg is now a full inch longer than my right leg. What exercises or other remedies do you suggest? I try using heel inserts but that only works with tennis shoes. My foot slips out with other styles of shoes.
2 years later, how do you deal with leg length discrepancy now?
@@SkyHermit I had my right knee replaced 3 months ago but the discrepancy is still there. SMH. I use the heel inserts but not as thick and daily stretching helps a lot too.
@@knightsdavis2558 Is your left leg still longer than the right? And how much is the discrepancy if I may ask?
@@SkyHermit My left leg is stronger and the difference is about 1/2 inch to an inch.
Left is longer and stronger though.
I have tibia surgery after an accident and it Come short of 2cm, now i am puting 2cm heel silicon in my shoes to reduce the imbalanced. But now i am experiencing hammer toes, please advice to avoid pain in my toes while waring shoes. Thanks a lot!
If a leg is slightly longer would you get pain in the opposite side of back? Ex. Longer right leg. Pain in left lower back?
hi please help me , i dont know my friend and parents told me i lean right side while iam walking , my shoulder on right sight will be also lower while iam standing normal, i dont have any pain until now, how can i correct myself now
My younger brother has the same problem. I was wondering how you fixes it?
@@barakatullah1035 insoles in shoes after hes done the footprint measurments.
What if the left leg is longer then the right as a result of a failed attempt of a chiropractor to adjust the right sij and instead of adjusting it he pushed something that made it inflamed? Also now the left (longer) leg tends to be more numb than the right...
#didn't have any leg discrepancy and/or inflammation prior to that adjustment...
i have one leg 2 to 3 inch longer than the other. Pls help me, im 6'3 tall and i have a dream. i cant play basketball with this legs pls help me
I have pain in my right leg but my parents thought it was on flat foot because my sister had a flat foot growing up and my parents that I had flat foot so we went to the foot doctor and the doctor said that my right leg is longer than the other and then the doctor said that I need to see a spine doctor because it might have to do with my spine because I had pain in my spine as well as my pain for my foot
Can this condition cause sciatica nerve pain or discomfort?
No problem. I like people who know their stuff :)
What about purchasing a orthotic insert?
The leg whose pelvic is up that means its short in length because its pulled up!! not the opposite leg
Thank you.
I think that your right leg is shorter... especially if you have right hip pain sometimes
The right leg is longer (10)cm and the left is (6)cm and I am having a lot of pain in the right hip and also it has arthritis in it
I got this way from limping because of a collapsed hip due to AVN . Are there exercises to correct this to get my length back to the way it was?
If I walk across a slope where the slope is downwards to the right I do not have any problems. However. If the slope is upward to the right I get really bad sciatica. Any suggestions as to possible causes? Could my right leg be longer than my left causing leverage on my pelvis etc?
I injured myself and i have groin pain. My left leg became like 4 cm longer and I cant walk proper. I would really appreciate a tip.
I think I have the same problem...for a few years now I got back pain from weight lifting and I realise one leg is longer than the other now. Also I have left si joint pain...after training jogging running in the gym. I get groin pain...
My left leg is about 1, 1/2 off i had a really bad fall back in 08, what else could help me. I just had hip surgery on it to. Please respond back kindly and thank you
My right leg is longer and it feels like my right hip is turned in slightly. I fractured my fibula and tibia a couple of years back- is there anything else I can do. It’s very frustrating 😤
