    At the time when I was younger i didn't really like that we never got to say goodby to trapper but now that I'm older, I kind of like that they did it this way because it made it more realistic to some degree. This did sometimes happen like that, you'de go on R&R, comeback and just find out someone got their orders and shipped out/ or even worse - dies. It can happen that quick and your not really able to process it, you just kind of have to move on. Happens in the civilian world as well in different ways sometimes. Good on the writers for including it.

      Work security for a private company. One year I took two weeks of vacation to visit grandparents and when I came back found that my supervisor had put his two weeks' notice in the day I left and was no longer my supervisor when I got back.

      That's not why they did it this way, the actor playing Trapper left the show between seasons, so they couldn't do a goodbye episode showing him.

    I was so sad 😭 when Wayne Rogers left the series. They should've had him at least say goodbye. Him and Alan made a good team but the one episode they did when he thought he was leaving because of an ulcer was the best goodbye they told each other

    Wayne Rogers didn't leave because he was jealous of Alan Alda. He left because as his part got smaller, he was sitting around the set too much without anything to do. That's how he got into day trading (which he was very successful at). His though was "If I'm just going to be standing around here, there are better things I can do with my time." Also, he said he never signed his contract, so it was an easy out.

    Trapper obviously was in such a hurry to get sent home because of what happened to Lt. Colonel Henry Blake, who was in command of the 4077th until he got his discharge and then got killed when his plane was shot down over the Sea of Japan and didn't survive along with everyone else on the plane when it hit the water.

    Let me see if I understand the situation correctly: Henry Blake is discharged and the 4077th is down to just three doctors - Frank, Trapper and Hawkeye. Even though the hospital staff is spread thin, Frank allows Hawkeye to go on R&R in Tokyo which leaves just two surgeons on duty. Why in the world would Frank agree to let Hawkeye go on leave under such circumstances?

    • @thefonzkiss
      @thefonzkiss 3 месяца назад +5

      It’s a TV show. It’s written around the business and the casting not vice-versa. Both actors were leaving at the end of this season. You have to write that into the script.

      @@thefonzkiss Later in the episode, when Hawkeye, BJ and Radar are driving back to the 4077th, they treat several injured Americans. Hawkeye tells Radar to call in their choppers. Radar says that another MASH unit is closer and that hospital's choppers should transport the wounded there. It's a good thing Radar mentioned that.
      Because if all of the wounded had been sent to the 4077th, Frank was the only surgeon on duty.
