    Bro this is awesome. I started staff spinning about a year ago and I've never really felt smooth when I spin. Some of the tricks you did is this video look like i have the ability to do them and would be super fun to incorporate it into my own routine. Plus the music you have going fits really well. Basically you did awesome in all regards and have inspired me

    This is amazing man. You’ve some incredible talent. Thank you for sharing. I’ve been working on my fireballs. I can’t seem to get them nearly as magnificent ha. How long are you soaking your wicks for that?
    I have a feeling my plumes are fairly small either due to not having enough spin or potentially not tossing high enough, but curious if there’s any technique you’ve found successful other than strictly spin speed. Thanks man!

    • @joshuadwaters1299
      @joshuadwaters1299  2 года назад +2

      Hey, thanks man! Appreciate the kind words. Doesn't really matter how long you dip but they're very wet when I burn off. Just be careful, the wetter they are the better they burn off but the more likely you are to get sprayed, it's also hotter obviously! My wicks are also fairly large which probably makes a difference. And yes spin speed is the biggest factor, but height doesn't really matter too much, just gets it away from you a bit. I'd say just play with how you're rolling it in your hands to get some more speed on it

    Can I ask how you created that fireball in the beginning? I’ve been trying to figure it out and I’ve only managed to do it once, is there a specific trick? Usually I just fling unlit fuel everywhere

    • @joshuadwaters1299
      @joshuadwaters1299  3 года назад +3

      It's created from spin. You spin the staff as fast as possible which creates a stream of fine fuel particles that light instantly, thereby creating a fire ball. Just practice rolling the staff between your palms to spin it better. Also make sure the wicks are wet enough and that you're using the right fuel. And be careful of your surroundings, the fireball can travel quite high, and the fuel can spray quite far. Good luck!

    Hi! How do you set the staff on fire with your hands? Are you using any substance or something? I would like to do this too, but I am beginner and can't find informations about that

    • @joshuadwaters1299
      @joshuadwaters1299  3 года назад +4

      Good question. I don't necessarily recommend trying it. But if you want to, I would recommend looking up something called fire fleshing. It's a little hard to find, but it's the concept of drawing fire on your skin safely. It's very safe when done correctly and I use the same principles here. No tricks, the fuel is called white gas or Coleman's camp fuel. It's one of the only safe fuels to use, that and purified lamp oil. The vapor burns, not the liquid so I can hold it for a couple seconds before it burns me, but only while the fuel is cold. You also have to be very careful to keep your skin below the fire at all times, and the amount of liquid fuel you get on your skin has to be just right or you will get burned. If your going to try it, start small, be careful and do your research. Have fun.

    Seems like a solid foundation but I'd like to see some more variety. Maybe occasionally spin it around your neck or waist. Also, look up some actual staff katas and throw some of them in there. Fight an imaginary enemy with your flames. Just some constructive feedback cause even changing nothing its still cool.

    • @joshuadwaters1299
      @joshuadwaters1299  3 года назад +2

      Appreciate the constructive criticism mate! To be fair, this was over a year ago when I had just gotten into staff, I have added a lot more pacing changes, footwork and more variety of movements to my spinning as well as a couple contact moves since then. Good ideas though, I should definitely add some martial arts movements and some more neck stuff or horizontal play. I do like 7 or 8 different props at this point though, so it's I don't really need to get fancy. Appreciate the comment though, I defintely want to work on that stuff at some point when I have time.
