- Maximize your productivity with the HP EliteDisplay S14 Portable Display. It weighs 1 kg and is less than 9 mm thick, and it's a great option for use with the Surface Go. Set up is also quickly and easy with just one USB-C cable. See at HP: thrifter.com/sz0n

Make it a touch screen and we can talk... Been down this road with the HP Lapdock, waste of time, without the touchscreen its just a monitor. I am not spending one more penny supporting these projects until they start pulling out the stops and actually give us what we want. They always come close, but then just fall short of delivering something truly useful. HP, Microsoft and the rest of them.
This might be interesting for Galaxy Dex and Huawei Easy Projection.
Yes I'm waiting for a Galaxy Tab 4 owner to address this use case. Prior to this video, I hadn't seen a Surface Go owner address it either. To me, this is one of the few advantages either of those devices has over an iPad Pro.
I much prefer my HP Elite X3 lap dock for Dex.. Works brilliant (using it to type on now). It is essentially a very slim laptop, though without a CPU. When I plug in my S8, Dex launches, then it becomes a very nice unit to type on etc. 1080p screen and charges phone at the same time. Unfortunately only certain models of the lap dock work with samsung, so can be hard to get a fully functional one.
It would flop even if you could have a perfect desktop mode experience (Dex and EMUI Desktop are far from that right now) ... There arent many successful 14 inch tablets (except maybe rugged tablets for diagnostics) so who the fuck would carry a brick that cant do anything on its own and only works connected to a phone even if it was slightly thinner and lighter than an actual tablet ?
This would make much more sense with Continuum or DeX or similar concept.
Nice product. I’ve actually been using duet display and my iPad with my surface go. Can use usb c to lighting too.
Hi. Nice video. I am at 4 minutes in. Wish you would start talking about the display itself. How the case feels and what the protective cover is all about - really irrelevant. If I want to stand on it or throw in the mud, I will keep this in mind. For now I want to know how well the actual display is to see and why I want a usb-c monitor instead of one with both HDMI and usb-c ports, to use with everything else.
Which USB spec does it require seems to be noticeably missing for this review. Does a 3.1 gen 1 usb-C port work? Does it require 3.1 gen 2? Or Thunderbolt 3?
It's important information to give to people interested in buying this, as they might run into incompatibility issues.
"i just came out of the gym... let me wear this tight ass shirt and talk about usb c displays"
Random af 😂
it looks like youre ready to head out to a football match
lol
And he borrowed his little sister’s shirt.
JogBird looool
Once they come out with a single cord touch screen version I'm sold.
Thank you for the review. I HATE that hinge with that garbage attached
I use my 13" spectre x360 heavily for school. I prefer taking notes on it with the pen as opposed to using traditional notebooks. Because the screen is small, it can get a little cramped if I'm taking notes from something on my computer via split-screen multitasking, so a device like this could really come in handy. This is slightly cheaper than the Zenscreen and I like the stand better, so I'm honestly considering this buy.
I love this device category. Wonder if you could hook it up to some cameras (DSLR or Mirrorless ) using a HDMI to USB-C adapter and have it be monitor for video work.?
TechLeatherCraft HDMI supports power?
Yes it works with DEX
I'll be watching here for the touch screen. Can't wait to see that available. Great review, you always do them well.
At that point it's almost a tablet. That would blur the lines of the product too much
Nice looking and reasonablely priced. But I still wish to have a 1440p/2160p option.
1080p is fine. Higher resolutions will surely eat more battery juice from your device.
A company called Magedok do some amazing displays at 1440p and 13.3 inches. They can be fully usb type c powered with data, or you can even plug a hdmi cable into it. Meaning you can use it for the Nintendo switch or other gaming consoles etc. I just ordered two for myself, arriving today.
Will let you know how I get on, but if they're as good as they look, I'm going to be pretty happy.

Thanks. They also have a portable 4K Screen with 100% Adobe RGB. Quite tempting.
They do, and looking at reviews they don't suffer the extreme lack of brightness issues that the displays like the HP, AOC or ASUS portable monitors do. I'm skeptical about that though, I'll let you know when mine arrive.
The reviews are completely real. Viewing angles are amazing, and the display is better than the one on my brand new Dell XPS 15 (1080p version). They don't give the correct cable for power and data over usb in the box (you have to use hdmi), but a usb 3.1 gen 2 cable (like the ones anker sell on amazon) does the job just great. I highly recommend this display.
This is the best portable display that can be purchased.
How does this product impact the battery life of the surface go or any similar product?
Yes! Lets get some battery specs!
Thank you for the review. Might be a nice add on to my HP spectre.
Dangit, a moment there I misread S14 for $14 USB-C portable display. xD
Nice for gaming on the go. Does not seem to operate video through the G2 Thunderbolt Dock - is a downside. The rest is good.
Thank you for the review. When plugged in a desktop as the only display, does this show the boot screen?
Hey cool, I’ve been looking for something like this. Price is not so bad too.
Does it work on the surface pro 5 with USB c to a adapter? DeX for Samsung note 9?
It has to be an extremely limited use case. You have a Surface Go -- presumably because you don't want to carry around a 12"+ device most of the time -- yet you buy a 14" portable display which presumably you aren't going to use much? Further, your work doesn't require any high-end processing or graphics (since the Go can't do that), you are happy with a few hours of life (since the Go can't power that monitor for long), and you have nearly $900 to spend on this -- $550 for the Go, $100 for the keyboard, and $250 for the monitor.
It would seem a lot more useful just to pay a $900 12" 2-in-1. You'd get an i5 processor, higher resolution screen, longer battery life, larger keyboard, no hassle of all this around, fits on your lap or tray, etc.
This does make more sense with a Continuum, DeX, or compute stick type device.
loved the upload
how bright is this screen? And does it works with Mac?
Nice review thxs 👍🏻
Its about time, there was a laptop with side screen built in 🤞🏻
Many pro types but still no real deal 😔
Could I hook this up to a Surface Pro with a display port to USB C adapter?
I have a Dell latitude e7440 laptop and not having a USB C port in the same.
Please advise, how can i connect a USB c HP elite S14 to USB A ?
Does it work with an iPad Pro?
Can we attach a car dash ? Some kind of mounting brackets ;)
Cool I like to buy Surface go but I have a dought about type c connenter can we use external hard disk with type c adapter
Can this be used on older laptops that do not have USB-C?
Hi, please share with us the palm protector on your surface go keyboard... should be useful for someone like me with sweaty palms!
Does anyone know of a usb-c dongle/hub that would allow the (pass through) attachment of this screen to the surface go as well as having perhaps a couple of USB -A ports as well. The only way I can see of achieving this type of functionality is with the Surface Dock type (1661) attached to the power connector, but this comes at a hefty price:(. I already have the Asus Zenscreen MB16A & can't wait to give this a try with the surface Go.
would be a awesome screen for a "bring along Xbox setup"
get a 17" portable screen
can we use it on any usb c device
What a Fabulous Video enjoying watching Thumbs Up
Ah, the S14 Silvia, best Nissan car
Did you even do any research for this. I had a portable monitor for 3 years from Gechic. The only thing new is type-c cable. I love my portable monitor because I can use any device that uses HDMI.
Is it usable without the kickstand? I'm using the Zenscreen with the pen to prop it up, really good for travelling as it's only 778g for the screen and 14g for the pen.
Mine connects but showing only desktop... It won't show what I'm playing on laptop. Do you know why this happens?
Is there as any lag?
how we can use this monitor for old vga portable pc? is there anyone to help?
Any info on the new touchscreen Asus Zenscreen you mentioned in the vid? Cant find any articles about it.
That T-shirt ❤
It looks a size too small.
I want this with my DeX station
Should be touch. Certanly for that price!
can you buy two and get a three screen set up? Am i able to get an adapter to connect the 2 screens by usb type-c?
Does it do mirroring of laptops screen (to be used as a presentation monitor)?
A 14 inch display for 1 kilogram? Not much lighter than a standard ultrabook though.
This could be for the future where your phone can be all you need for work.
Last I checked a standard Ultrabook is still single display. The only reason I use this - and others - is to have *multiple* display usage when we travel whether that's in a meeting room, hotel, office, etc. I say that because I work 90% of the time with *three* displays at home and the office, so traveling and using one is cramped. Doesn't matter if it's a 10-inch Surface Go or my 15" Surface Book 2. So, getting a "nice" 14-inch laptop literally solves nothing for this situation. Even for non-work use I can keep the game on the HP display while doing work on the main computer - whatever computer that may be. It's just fun. If you use multiple displays regularly this just clicks and makes sense. If you *only* use a single display on a desktop then it won't.
Windows Central Good to know. I'd like to know the power consumption of the portable display
Your choice - $200 for this or $2000 for an ultrabook
Bruce I just mean it could be a lot lighter
Will this work with older MacBook Pros via thunderbolt - USB-C cable?
I'm fairly new to this whole "2nd screen" thing. My question is, how will this thing get powered up? I don't see any cord for a power source. Is this battery operated? Thanks 😁
Powered by the type c cable
What if you have a device with only 1 Type-c port? Is there a hub on the market that will allow you to use the display and power it?
Can you mirror your iPhone?
I bought a HP S14 after watching this video. May I ask how to use this with a USB A adapter? I'm using win 10 and a laptop with USB A 2.0 and 3.0 ports. I have installed the driver from HP website but the display doesn't work still. How do you with it with the adapter? Thanks in advance!
Did you manage to make it work?
Nope... It didn’t work with USB A-C adapter... bought a new laptop with USB-C port.
Does the mouse go to that screen from the default windows screen on a laptop
From where did you get your wallpapers ?. please share with us .
Is this Working for Android Tablet Device!!!!
Can this USB-C support USB-C to HDMI so in future is possible to connect the HDMI to the display,
Example: Laptop TB3 - External GPU - S14 display
nowadays laptop only have one USB-C port only so yeah
can i connect a game console to this?
I am thinking of a Dex Samsung Note 9...with a power bank
Which one has smaller bezels? The hp or the Asus?
Curious...does the note 9 Power Dex on the display?
Does it connect with mobile phone
Is this a USB C Alt Mode DisplayPort display? Or is it a USB DisplayLink chipset display?
It's DisplayPort alternate mode. hp.com says:
5v@3A from the connected device required for 15W power to the display. Video over USB-C™ requires a device with USB-C™ DisplayPort™ Alt mode or Thunderbolt™.
@@DavidWood2 Ah wow, the Go or any Laptop with USB C Alt Mode can supply the 3A?
@@GeorgeOu Most USB-C devices can supply 5V 3A power, though not all. I would expect most USB-C laptops to manage this, but some mobile devices will not. Unfortunately Microsoft make it very difficult to interrogate the UCSI controller that controls the USB-C functionality of most laptops in order to find out the power source capabilities - you have to set an enabling flag in the Windows registry then use a text mode utility. It would be much better if Windows 10 displayed USB Power Delivery information in human readable format somewhere in Settings or Device Manager.
@@DavidWood2 Do you have documentation/link on how to inspect the Power Delivery on a Windows laptop?
@@georgeou9651 See docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/usbcon/ucsi - you'll need a copy of the UCSI specification linked from that page and you'll have to do some manual decoding!
Can we use external hard disk to surface go ?
Will this work with samsung dex?
Hmm. I could use one of these with my Ockel Sirius A.
Can we use this for a desktop??
Would this work with the Galaxy Note 9 and Dex?
Some other guy said that the Note 8 can't because the display takes too much power. Sadly
Not sure about with DEX, but just plugging into a Note 9 by itself, no.
@@WindowsCentral did you try the note 9 with the displaylink presentation app. It should work
Will it work with Android phones?
They should put 2 usb c ports. I mean I could plug a portable charger 3.0 to it and not loose battery from my laptop
Do these monitors work under BIOS or UEFI?
Does this work on Type C 3.1 Gen1 or only 3.1 Gen2?
Can we table mount it using monitor arm...
Can we ???
only c to c?? or c to a?
Does it work with the Macbook pro?
Will this work for a Nintendo switch
what keyboard do you have on the surface go?
Is the cover removable?
I don't understand your emphasis on using this with the Surface Go while traveling. The two devices together weigh more than a Surface Pro, which is a much more powerful laptop and doesn't require you to deal with two devices. The Go might be easier to use in the cramped space on a plane, but I still think it makes much more sense for travelers than the GO + S14. The S14 seems to have much more promise as a device that travelers could attach to phones.
"The two devices together weigh more than a Surface Pro, which is a much more powerful laptop and doesn't require you to deal with two devices. " It's not about having just a larger screen, it's about using *multiple displays* whether that's Surface Go or Surface Book 2 (this won't work on Surface Pro, no Type-C). Many people, including ourselves, work daily from a three-screen desktop. This lets us use two screens when traveling, which is better than one whether it's a 10-inch display, or 15.
Actually I like a two-display setup. Right now I have a (sub-optimal) two-screen mobile system: a Surface Pro plus a Samsung tablet. One's for reading (all my PDF's and books are synced to the Samsung) and the other is for taking notes, doing math, running statistical software, writing in Word, etc. Having a second display like this is a natural extension of this idea. The only drawback is, having a second tablet, which is very light, is also good for reading, which means I'm using less Surface Pro battery life.
I doubt you would have much luck trying to use the Go to run anything but simple statistical analyses.
gamut?
Can i connect it to a ps4 using a converter ?
I am willing to guess the Surface Pro 4 with a Surface Connect to USB-C dongle would do the trick, but it's expensive at $70 (last I checked).
Will it work with smartphones
How does this work with a note 9?
How can I use this for surface pro?
Awesome
Do consider an inexpensive Apple iPad-Duet combo and you now have both a laptop and a full-featured tablet/screen to work with.
Dex mode this bad boy
Once you've had a full gamut, IPS desktop display there's no going back to a TN display like this.
Does it work with Nintendo switch?
not working for me.... Surface Go is the Surface RT 2018 for me... sorry
Can I use this with a Samsung Galaxy Note 9? Anyone know???
DID IT WORK WITH SMARTPHONE?
Would this work with Lumia 950 Continuum?
Nope
We get it, you work out...
All TVs should have usb c input by now
Hey ma nwhat is the black shade over the burgandy alcantara keyboard? It looks dope. How to get it?
This is a bit of an odd device. I have a dual monitor setup on my desktop at home, and I also have a Surface Pro, but I don't think this would be super useful for me even if the pro had USB-C. I don't use my Pro for heavy stuff.
Try it on Surface Book 2 then. Works just as well.
LG gram 14 is 1kg too.
...but it's an LG laptop.
