Hey Trogly, Thanks so much for getting these guitars out to me! I just received them today and couldn't be more excited. For anyone wondering it's been a great experience working with Trogly and I would definitely suggest him if you ever need any guitar related help. Rest assured, these guitars will be both played and proudly displayed. I have no intention to make them into wall hangers. Josh
Wouldnt it be cool if Fender went wider with this idea... Fender Japan with the Hokusai series Fender Mexico doing artesania inspired designs Fender Corona doing suft art or scene painting etc 🤔
I enjoy Japanese art and Hokusai is definitely a favorite, his prints are prevalent in my home...I've also viewedthe originalscrolls in DC a t the Smithsonian. I appreciate you going into good detail for everyone.
I bought a Japanese Jazz Bass from a pawn shop for under $300. That bass is vintage accurate 1962 instrument right down to the copper braid that acts like a string ground.
One of those unassuming videos that connected with me by happenstance. I just made a project on one of those 2 pieces during my summer semester for a class, researching the wood block art form and the piece itself. First time I've really looked into a visual art medium so much. Having that on a guitar would be insane, though I doubt I'd play it much. I also happen to have been to the Fender Flagship store, though I didn't go inside. It honestly looked like a beautiful place with great displays, but it was also intimidating. I intended on going back, but I never found a good opportunity before returning to the states. Great content as usual.
I kinda wish the mountains were angled the other way so that when you’re playing they’re the correct way around. This seems more like a collector piece meant to be displayed on a guitar stand
Wow those are sweet , I like them both , I'd love a Takashi Murakami ( Tan Tan Bo Puking ) Tele / Esquire , I love Japanese art & culture , So much grace & beauty , Thanks trog !
I don't normally love strats, but that one is so cool! I have a fun mod project in mind to do something similar, get a black strat, give it a black pickguard, get an ebony fretboard and paint the neck black, I just think that'd be fun :)
@@Davivd2op is talking about 12:25 Op you would want a black and white 2 ply or black white black 3 ply pickgaurd, I can't tell which, but with the gold hardware it would look sick
I have never touched a guitar in my life. I also have no desire to learn how to play one. But I still find this guy's videos to be very interesting. I love the way these things are manufactured, distributed, and collected.
It might not be as hard as all that. I am from NYC and was just in Japan a few days ago. I thought about buying one of those but I don't think an Esquire is a great fit for me. Normally you have to order one from the Flagship store in Tokyo (the only Fender store in the world) but the guy I was dealing with said I might be able to take one with me. I wound up buying a Jazzmaster from them and a Strat with the competition stripe from Ikebe. The Japanese Fender's are great.
I have a Fender Strat “Limited Edition” Anime painted “Beach Sunset Scene with a very sexy female surfer holding a surfboard” body with a telecaster head stock…it has a single coil in the neck position & a humbucker in the neck position…the pickups have white covers and the pickup ring around is color changing 3d effect…the volume knob has an abalone top, and there’s no tone knob, but a chicken head knob with 3 position dial…the back has a “Surfco, Hawaii” decal at the bottom and “Fender” “Limited Edition” on the neck plate…back side color is very white…I got it about 15 years ago from our local “Loud and Clear” Music Store…supposedly, the person who owned it before me was a music teacher who had a young male student who couldn’t stop fondling the young surfer’s breast…so he sold it & I got it!!! Never could find any info on it…
I have the made in Japan Hybrid II Telecaster in Twilight finish that is exclusive to the Tokyo flagship store for 2024. The difference is I was able to walk in and buy it when I visited a few months ago. I have a photo of me with the guitars being reviewed here.
I obtained the Great Wave one - it wasn't really necessary to have someone go to the store as long as you acknowledged that you would get no warranty. The Tokyo store shipped it free domestically to a forwarder, who then shipped it to me in the US for a modest fee. Not so much of a big deal - I just had to contact the store directly and was nice. I also bought it to keep and play - I'm not a flipper.
Amazing, great job actually securing these. When I saw the Urushi Strat, that became a dream own, but when I was reading into the details on the ordering process, I gave up hope immediately. The Hokusai ones are also right up my alley, so this was a fun detour into Fender (Japan) country
I really love when I'm looking for guitars on Yahoo Auctions Japan and find a cool guitar, that won't even sell to a proxy buyer because they know it's coming to the states. I've always known that they do stuff in Japan like put Floyd Roses on teles and use paint jobs, you'd never find on a US or MX strat or tele. I think it's interesting, even if it's nearly impossible to buy some of them. These are pretty awesome, I like this artwork.
Is it me or is there a chip in the paint of the blue and yellow guitar near the top corner of the lower bout? It's visible in close up at 9:20. Unfortunately, it's not something that you can unsee.
I was trying to get one of the three Nocasters and/or the Strat.. and they did not mention anything in the beginning of picking them up in Japan…However i got email saying i did not win any of the guitars and later i got another email where they said they where gonna produce another extra batch (Not so Limited Not anymore?!?) and i could still purchase one. But for that i had to go to Japan to get it.. i am from germany and was Not pleased with the communication of that subject to say the least..
Those teles are so sick tbh, it would be awesome if fender USA would offer something similar is color to the wave but California themed. Oh well, one can only dream
It could have been water dipped as well. I did not notice any bare wood. Everything was white even in all the cavities save for the back which looked like it has a clear satin on it.
@@cataclysmicconverter So true- tons of stuff on Ebay from Japan showing up. Reminds me when Japan was also scooping up golf courses on the Moterey peninsula only to sell them later at a loss.....
Conspiracies ARE real! Haha … I love Japanese woodblock/art, but maybe not on my guitars (not like that, anyway) … Limited Edition ‘None More Black’ Strat: strictly limited numbers, from the last actually-black-ink tree on earth (or some-such) … I’ve heard it all, now … 😉
So you organized an international team to smuggle national treasure out of Japan. I don't know the technicalities but I think you could almost be considered a Yakuza.
When I was in Japan last year, I happened to randomly stumble across theFender Flagship Store on our way to Harajuku. They had a few handpainted Mt Fuji Fender Acoustasonics. I was actually surprised that they let me handle and play (carefully) there custom guitars. Just like in Japan's camera stores, the salesmen at the Fender Flagship Store encourage you to try the products. The are not hidden behind glass or hung out of reach from the customers. I didn't buy one because the artwork is not sealed under lots of lacquer. You can actually feel the satin paint. And there was no clear pickguard to protect it. If I did bring one home, it would just be a wall ornament and it would never get played.
I'm sure the wave sold first as that's the most famous painting to ever come out of Japan.
DO A FISHERMAN'S WIFE GUITAR, FENDER, YOU COWARDS.
@hoilst265 😂😂😂 bro I looked it up knowing it would be something wild but I wasn't expecting proto-hentai! Lololol
Fender needs to come out with a Japanese guitar inspired by Godzilla and King Kong.
They tried, but it was so beastly the response was unanimous, “🎼Ohhhhh no, they say he’s got to go, no more Godzilla!”

Wouldnt it be cool if Fender went wider with this idea...
Fender Japan with the Hokusai series
Fender Mexico doing artesania inspired designs
Fender Corona doing suft art or scene painting etc
🤔
That would be a great idea though. That’s why they won’t do it.
I want a Fender Mexico Jaguar and a Fender Corona Jazz "Surf" Master.
Fender Mexico doing the Aztec Sacrifice series.
😂
Squire Sweatshop series

No pick-guard or control cavities round the back. That's a really neat routing job. Probably not massively difficult, but a nice detail anyway 😊
Such a cool design. The summer time vibes are so cool
I bought a Japanese Jazz Bass from a pawn shop for under $300. That bass is vintage accurate 1962 instrument right down to the copper braid that acts like a string ground.

Seeing Trogly reviewing a Fender is like seeing Golden Pheasant, it’s rare and beautiful at the same time.
As a Fender fanboy who somehow found himself subscribed...yes! lol

$1300 to 1400 (depending on yen fluctuation) is actually borderline cheap for such unique guitars, less that what I expected
