I'm on the border of the west/east mids (nightmare when having to sign important information and documents as one or the other because Derbyshire and Staffordshire are different), but I also get a lot of jackdaws. You see them frequently more around towns and suburbs but also in more rural areas. Not as common as crows, but I see far more than birds of prey such as sparrowhawk's like you said. This is My Kind of Bird-Man:) In addition, I had never heard of a Jackdaw before I saw this clip and I’m rather surprised that it would be stupid enough to try to defeat a powerful bird of prey like a Kestrel because I’m almost certain she would have been able to defend herself and her chicks even if she did not have a Mate. But no matter what, I’m very impressed by her Mate (regardless of Species) doing what Any good Mate should do against The Enemy: Protect and Defend Loved Ones To The Death if necessary. Period. jackdaws are one of the smartest species of birds on the planet, it was hounding the kestrel to get the mouse they get a lot of there food by stealing it of other birds and theyve little fear of birds of prey they usually end up mobbing any that drift into there patches
You say that but there are a couple of videos on RUclips I’ve seen of Jackdaw defeating kestrels in scraps on the floor were a kestrel has attacked one and come seriously unstuck in the fight that happens when they hit the floor , jackdaws have a powerful and sharp pointed beak unlike a bird of prey which normally have a hook type beak so unless it’s lucky enough to kill the jackdaw in the first strike and contact with its claws it normally will end up in the jackdaws favor
In one video online with a kestrel and jackdaw fighting on the ground the jackdaw very near kills the kestrel with violent powerful pecks to the head the jackdaw then flys off and the kestrel just lays there for a good 20 seconds dazed and confused trying to work out what just happened

So are Jackdaw's and Kesterl's natural enemies or is this just a Jackdaw trying to take out the competition? Edit: I have come to learn that the Kestrel's stole the nesting box from the Jackdaw's who were "wrestling" each other before the Kestrel's came along.
