- The DJI Air 2s or the Mavic 2 Pro? Both of these drones are excellent drones for video and photo work but they have some differences that seem small but might make the difference in which one is best for you.
While both the Air 2s and the Mavic 2 pro have a 1" 20 mp sensor, obstacle avoidance, smart features and 10bit d-log video they each have their own strengths and weaknesses that might make one work best for your needs. I will break down all the important specs of each drone and also show you where the Mavic 2 pro is still better than the Air 2s and where the DJI Air 2s beats out the Mavic 2 pro.

Jake, nothing like educating yourself on your new hobby than being in lockdown in Bangkok before my next flight. My son is getting his BS in UAS and I like mountain biking. Oh nice!!! Sorry about the lockdowns. I have a lot of friends in Thailand and it’s been tough for them to get out much. For me I’d go with the air 2s if you want a mix of traditional drone work and filming yourself stuff. If you primarily want to film yourself then Skydio all the way.

GREAT Video Jake , new subscriber here. Love the straight to the point content delivery... MP2 owner here and a smart controller. Thinking of picking up an Air 2s to compliment the pro 2,so,do you think it worth having both? also if you use the Air 2s with the smart controller ,are you losing out with the benefits of Ocusync 3 ?
Hey anthony, I use the air 2s with the smart controller almost exclusively now and it works very well. I haven’t noticed anything aside from a little extra lag every now and then that would make me go back to the standard controller. If you have the pro 2 the air 2s would be kind of redundant since they are quite similar and the pro still has the advantage of the variable aperture. Now if your pro is starting to falter then I’d definitely get an air 2s to replace it.

I'm a backpacker and love hiking long trips, I had the original mini for a year now and loved it, but the lack of raw photos, and feature limitations has been killing me. I do it as a hobby but needed to upgrade, and I've been considering everything from the mini 2 to the mavic 3. on a budget and needing to go on a trip next week, I can't wait for the mini 3 and the air 2s just seems like a phenomenal option for someone like me who walks a lot and can't trek around with something so heavy. thanks for the phenomenal review, I'm really confident in my purchase! can't wait for it to arrive in 2 days! :)

@@shy8291 Fly them until your heart is content. My mini2 has 4 batteries, all approaching almost 60 cycles, anywhere from 5 minute flights to 20% remaining and never a single hickup or concern of safety whatsoever.

Fantastic! yes the air 2s is my go to drone for the moment, I still use my pro 2 occasionally but even on a recent TV show shoot I used the air 2s

Jake Sloan love you're videos but you contradict you're self ones in a while you said the 2s has way more precise control input,response and more refined but at 9:36 you say the 2 pro has the upmost level of control or maybe you're just talking about the variable aperture on the 2pro, either way try to be more specific and sometimes battery isnt quite what u say it is but other times youre right on target,again you have great content over all thank you for you're work,very honest and informative and unbiest! Thank you.

Both awesome but for me, I have to sick with the 2 pro because I shoot mainly in daylight with ND filters, I have to constantly adjust the AP. 2.8 on a sunny day on the 2 pro washes things out but has the most detail as the sensor is wide open, throw an 32 or 64 ND filter on it and the pro lives up to its name

Very well done and informative. Sold my Mavic 2 pro for 820€ and just had to invest approx. 250 € for the Air2s, batteries and loading station. Would not pay much more for the small better issues, but just investing 200-300€ for a new drone with increased technology is worth imo.
But sorry think I have one critic point: you say the mavic 2 pro is easier to fly in windy conditions. Later you say that the air2s is more stable flying/hovering. Isn’t this contradicting? Or didn’t I get what you wanted to say within this issue?

One very important feature of the new lineup of DJI drones (Air 2, Mini 2) that I would add is the new controller is considerably better. I wouldn't get the old Mavics because of the controller alone! The screen is on top now, which is much more convenient. The battery I believe is 2-3 times larger. What's the point of having many flight packs, if the controller dies first?! Also, all of the sticks have more travel, making shooting smooth video considerably easier. The vertical gimbal wheel is much larger, and has more travel. Made a world of a difference to me, shooting professional videos.
Also, in my opinion the DJI Fly app is much more intuitive and pleasant to use than the DJI Go4.

i actually have both of these drones. I really think the old controller is better, not because its better at ergonomics or battery life, but because of the display. Ive been saved on numerous occasions when i lose video signal from the drone, and have to rely on the display on the controller to get home judging by the distance from home and the height. That being said, i am still sticking with the air 2s as my main drone because of o3 transmission - i have to worry a lot less about disconnects compared to the m2p.

If you can wait and you have a 2,000.00 budget then the mavic 3 will be amazing but if you’d rather not spend that much Tye air 2s is excellent and a HUGE upgrade from the original mavic pro

I am just planning to buy my first drone...I like mavic 2 pro for some reasons..but..
Price is no problem, but winter and minus degrees, and some small things.
Because I am living in northern part of Finland, and we have cold sometimes here as well..😊
Have to use some times on minus degrees.....that mavic 2 pro might be good and reliable.
Just bought camera for daily use, sony rx 10 iv. And now want good reliable drone...
Recommendations for that?

Hey Markus, I'd highly recommend the Air 2s, I live in Alaska (where this was filmed) and fly my air 2s in extremely cold temperatures. as cold as -25c so far with no problems!
Bought a DJI FPV for sexy shots and after flying it I only want it for fun but I'm not getting my Part 107 for recreation and I still have offers to record and make money so I needed this badly. Thank you greatly !

Exposure can be changed with ND and shutter not just iso as video states
Shutter should really only be used to change exposure for photos. Video you want to keep the shutter speed 2x the frame rate. Nd filters are a must and can be used however you will end up using ISO changes to get proper exposure when conditions change unless you want to land and change the ND filter for every shot.
For most drone shots you can adjust shutter a bit here and there as the 180 degree rule isn’t as noticeable with such distance to motion. It’s a shame you can’t adjust f stop, order lots of ND options !

Jake, awesome review! I have a question though. If the Pro uses Ocusync 2.o and the 2s uses 3.0, how can the Smart controller be used for both?
Occusync is a marketing term for software that DJI has created for the hardware they use. It’s basically a communication protocol that they wrote. So they can add functionality to either one but the software while different uses essentially the same hardware and thus they can be compatible
Not overjoyed about buying the Air 2 and shortly after, the Air 2S came out! There seems to be quite a difference... do I upgrade?
I don’t think I would upgrade just yet. Wait a few months and see if a new air 2 version comes out.

Right now even with my P107, I just fly to improve my skills and take pretty images. As much as I'd like to dump $6-7K into the Mavic Enterprise to get into inspections, my day job just takes up too much time. Oh well. 4:45 I hate it when my Mini 2 does this at full speed. It's gotten to where it vibrates at around 30mph. I am looking into getting the mini 3 and I was wondering does this happen with the drone at full speed?

Only thing I don't like about the air 2s is the wider field of view. Would be interesting to see Air 2s cropped to 4k (or 4k 2x zoom) side by side with m2p 4k hq mode.

@@JakeSloan I just bought the air 2s again anyway :P (sold mine awhile back) was a decision between mini 3, m2p and air 2s. As an overall package and if you don't need to be under 250g I think air 2s is still one of the best if not the best.... as a good all rounder, price, ease of use, the way it flies, picture quality, size/weight etc.
Any predictions for the air 3?
I looked back at my videos taken when I owned the M2P and find that the color surpasses the Air2S. Just my opinion.
It's definitely different and a large part of that has to do with the Hasselblad name and their color science being implemented on the M2P.

I don't know the answer to your question, I don't think they would. But DJI includes 4 ND filters with the Air 2S Fly more combo. And I can tell you they are great! I love the locking mechanism, and the case

If I were hiking and wanted to bring a quad it would be the DJI Mini 2, if I needed more space the original DJI Mini.
The mini 2 and the original mini are the same size but both are great for hiking because they are so small

Not really. The air 2s is very good so unless you need some of the advanced features the mavic 2 pro is not that much better image quality wise
The Mavic Pro 2 is no longer offered for sale by DJI. Correct me if I'm in error, but here at the end of May 2022, the wisest choice in DJI drone is Mavic 3, Air 2S, or Mini 3 Pro. Anyone? PS. Where have the video DATES gone? They seem to all have disappeared.

That's an excellent question. It should have the saved partial video file on the SD card but I haven't tested it personally

5.16 more refined controls. Yes! I fly both of these. I get MUCH better results and far smoother shots with the Air 2s. With the Pro 2, a great drone, I often end up having to retry complicated shots and the sensors often ruin shots for me. The experience on the Air 2s is far greater for me. Variable aperature would have been great. #DJI needs to slow down the CINEMA mode and this camera will be the best yet. I hope they do that soon.

mavic 2 has 1 compass and 2 imu, mavic pro 1 has 2 compasses and 2 imus ;)
