    Hot take but casuals don't keep games alive, enthusiasts do. I come from csgo/cs2 and it is the best example for a passionate community, the esports is being watched in person by tens of thousands and hundreds of thousand live on stream, stuff like faceit is huge and even what is considered a casual player plays mostly ranked. Most of the people I know, me included, love it so much because it is just a no bullshit game, no gimics, no crutches, not tailored to bad players, if you lose it is because the enemy team played better, nothing else (exept cheaters, I know that's the biggest problem the game has). On the other hand, if we look at cod, almost every year a new game, a huge boom when it launches but dies down pretty fast because most of the people playing are casuals, and almost no stream of content updates will sustain these casual players, they'll just hop on once in a while after a big update. If you want to go with the "one long-lasting game model" then you need to have a passionate and healthy competitive scene.

      I just dont want to see this a game that caters to one side or the other. Take siege for example, the game caters to the pros, and has ruined the game for alot of casual players. I dont want this to be a game that caters to the casuals either like cod, because it ruins high level experimentation. There has to be a good middle ground, and just because whiny players on reddit think the FCAR is broken, doesnt mean it actually is.

    There was a video in the helldiver's community talking about the idea "a game for everyone is a game for no one". The reference they used was the devs not removing team killing, because "it was just too fun". They knew the game they wanted to make and who it would appeal to. It feels like that applies well here. Balancing for both casual and competitive seems to be simply frustrating one, if not both sides, towards a game no one would want to play.

      Game development is super tricky. Id be so much happier if i knew the intentions of the developers and what type of game they want to create because what feels obvious to 1 person isnt obvious to another. So id be able to judge these patches accordingly but it seems like i dont know who these patches are for. Its a vicious cycle of please 1 group annoy the other group and repeat

    I think you hit the nail on the head, you’re the first RUclipsr to really mention the balance problem. Everyone dog piles on me whenever I mention buffing weapons instead of nerfing them. My friends won’t even play anymore and until they change things I won’t be playing it. I don’t play competitive but I’ve been playing shooters for years and I’m good at them and understand what’s really op and what’s not. I didn’t feel like the Fcar and Lewis gun were too op i just think they don’t have any competition. For example why doesn’t the revolver 1 shot hs lights. Changes like theses could revive it. Everyone I know that has played loved the game but were pushed away. I really want to use different things and only 2 weapons being viable in each class makes the games stale and unenjoyable. I was really hoping for a large patch to roll out buffing majority of the weapons. Worst case they emergency nerf weapons, it sucks that I’ve lost interest in this game because it was one of the main factors in my decision to buy a ps5

      Agreed. The guns for the most part just feel bad to use now, especially at mid range. too many nerfs. TTK was already longer than most other FPS games. Now it’s just getting ridiculous. Also add assist counts as kill when you do 85 or more percent of the damage.

      yes if guns had on par damage but each yk has their niche or wtv it would make it a choice to the player "do i lose out on fire rate for high damage" "this is risky but it 2 shots lights" like it all depends what the player wants, ur missing out on 1 and gaining 1 so its up to the player

    I don't think the fine tuning of balance is necessarily the problem with The Finals reaching and retaining players. I have a buddy who's picked the game up a few weeks ago, and he's loving the gameplay. I don't know what Embark should do to get more players, but at the very least I think they need to do more marketing.
    I only personally found out about the game, because a content creator I like did a video, and it wasn't even new, it was an old one I was recommended because I watch his channel. And my buddy only found out about the game through me, so maybe one problem Embark's facing is that people just don't know the game even exists, right now.

      Agreed, I'd never heard of it till my friend told me to hop on and I was like wtf is the finals. He called it Gotham imposters 2.0, got it and instantly fell in love.

      Watching Lyr1c a very popular twitch streamer, the way to bring him back to the game is to make a more robust and appealing ranking system and fix game random crashes.
      For me, I just want more stuff in the shop, more weapons, more maps. Just more content in general. The game is getting boring ngl.

    Does no one EVER use the glitch grenades?
    I'm confused on how the heavy shield is so busted when I'm out here shutting it down and giving my team a free shot at the weakened enemies.

      It's not that it's useless, but it's just not useful enough to make light as a class useful. Glitch grenades don't last long enough for you as a light to get a kill before the effects wear off and often times even if you're with your team it likely won't get you many kills unless your team is very coordinated. It can be useful for shutting down stuff like turrets, but you'd still just be better off going medium or heavy who have endlessly more useful gadgets and specializations.

    As a heavy main I rarely open with a RPG. My most common use is to use it as a finisher for low HP players. The second is a response to attack when i drop my mesh shield. How many others do stuff like this?
    I don't like going into a fight with the RPG in hand. There are too many situations where i have ended up getting damaged more than my opp trying to use it when we are too close at the beginning of a gunfight.

    Im really hoping when it comes to light that now theyve toned back the cheesy stuff they find other ways to make light better theyve been nerfing a lot in general now i think its time to start buffing.

      @@AndreJones-wh2pcagreed, but as a light enjoyer since I got the game I noticed a lot of ppl who complain are the ones who try to 1v3 and a light. But I do think they’re being a little too heavy handed with the nerfs. Light had no viability in ranked in season one primarily due to other builds having way better options in dueling and supporting. With the removal of recon senses and the nerf of heavies in the start of season 2, light finally saw some hope. It just kinda sucked that they needed light so fast when it was barely used in rank in season 1 and once it finally had some viability, it was almost instantly shut down. Compared to nuking and rpgs 1 shotting lights in season 1 which took them a while to rebalance but it took them a couple updates into the start of season 2 to nerf lights most viable build BUT not even buff any other options the light had. Imo I just feel like they’re nerfing the wrong things/ needing them wrong. Stun gun and cloak nerf was deserved but I feel like lights deserve a nerf to the mp5 bc that’s probably the most brain dead weapon in the lights kit with the mp5 outperforming other light weapons from all ranges. But nah they decide to nerf everything else but not even try and slightly buff the other specializations to give more of an incentive to play those different play styles. Not mad with these changes, just wish they also buffed stuff at the same time or slow down on the updates so I don’t have to be changing my play style every weekend.

    Im a heavy main that looks heavy not for its effectiveness but how fun and destructive everything is, the character is just enjoyable to me, im always in the mix.

    I hope your points surrounding the abundance of nerfs without any compensatory buffs gets more notice. Balancing weapons / gadgets / entire classes in a way that makes them feel objectively worse to use just makes for a less satisfying experience - casual or competitive. Cloak and stun are very recent examples of this. Embark needs to be more willing to buff items / classes so that they can compete with whatever is meta. KS23 and 93R still need some love too. FAMAS may be creeping up as a viable option, but those other S2 weapons are still pretty underwhelming.

    What you said at the end is exactly how I feel about the removal of the dagger step. I can still sorta work the sword but like the dagger man… I had it to a T. it was so fun and actually worked in ranked I was useful af cause it wasn’t expected. Now I’d have to play a build I feel is boring. Or use sword. I like having fun and also playing ranked at the same time.

      @@Atom1cAtom People mostly use it as intended now. If you get shot in the ass cheeks there's still a pretty good chance you die before you can turn around. Sure you can use an ability or something but guess what, that can happen 5 more fucking times🤣 You might wanna look up the word literally btw.

      Yep. Diamond 2 here. Agreed 😂. 5-6 light in a quick cash lobby is super annoying. When in quick cash, I want to separate and attempt a 1 v 3 and just get as many kill as I can while winning you know. But a cloak light out of nowhere 5 or 6 time in a low is either a holy shit I kill them all or a holy shit why won’t you guy die. Stop running away :,> That said annoying in casual doesn’t necessarily mean it’s underpowered or overpowered. So yeah, overall, light still need a buff cause even now even In casual I rather see a full team of light and medium than 3 heavy mesh shield.

    I think a way to improve the heavy experience is to change the rpg from a player damage weapon to an environment damage weapon. Reduce its player damage by half, and increase its environmental damage to make a massive hole in any building. That way it becomes more of a utility than a weapon and players don’t have to pick it every time.

    Quick facts for our shitters our there: if u are good at the game u had no issue with barricades, now u gotta get closer to heavies and can't jump over barricades.
    Heavies got 2 shields and free no-aim 150dmg projectile.
    Mediums got infinite healing, double the teammates, chain defibing and turrets plus immunity to projectiles.
    Lights got, tracking dart? Bugged glitches and no health and as good as you are you got worse damage fallof and range, plus an invis that's not even invis anymore with noticeable sound queues and a stun peashooter.
    Stun nerf was plain wrong, nothing bad about something being a mandatory pick, there is OP shit and then handicapping yourself not using the best stuff for no reason for morality or "skill".
    Good players will stay good yet so many extra steps need to be taken now and so many bullshit will happen to lights.
    Read this twice if you still think lights can be the most annoying class.
    You can't call a light annoying and complain about getting stunned if you're that idiot using sledge and goo gun without being good enough to use that, you were a free kill even without stun gun bro, and you were and will be a heavy with an intrinsic and constant advantage over lights even then.

    Whats funny is bank it, heavy is by far the worst class to use due to the complete lack of mobility. I prefer playing bank it for this reason. I get so tired of heavy being OP as hell in this

      There is a strat for bank it as a 3 heavies or 2 heavies and someone else
      Basically you occupy the cashout boxes and wait for the light teams
      Usually in bank it there are LLL teams so as heavy you have huge advantage in a fight
      But you have to be good at heavy
      We ruined like 20 games like that

    I come from a competitive overwatch background, and have theorized balance philosophy for awhile. I think the answer to how you can balance for both casuals and competitive is you have to have a good skill to reward ratio. I see a lot of the same problems plaguing this game that plagued ow. Ow was praised for having accessible characters mixed in that required less skill, but those characters are actually what killed the game imo. Moira is a great example: she requires no mechanical skills at all, and gives free value on par with high skill characters. Casuals, and low skill players get dunked on by her, or they rely on her and end up messing up the sbmm, getting way higher elo than they should, which has a domino effect of ruing ranked for everyone. And no one is happy with the balance. Moira wasn't strong for most of the game. But low elo players thought she was S tier. I see a very similar thing happening in this game

    1. Idk how I feel about ranked yet, it’s better for balancing teams but I end up feeling a lot worse when I lose in the first and second round, and less fulfilling when I win.
    2. A lot less cheaters, absolute W! I ended up playing a round with you on Seoul Appoh with a team of cheaters in the game, I hope you beat them!
    3. Light just feels bad now
    4. Barricade rebalance was awesome
    5. FCAR nerf sucks, I wish the Famas and AKM were buffed instead, now it feels like I’m unable to beat a heavy at any fight, especially with double heal.
    6. Stun nerf was good! Cloak is just waaaaay to easy to see at close range now, multiple times I’ve been able to see light at close to medium ranges and it almost feels like a free kill because they’re not expecting to be seen.
    7. Grapple hook needs 2 charges, one to get in one to get out. With in turn a slightly longer recharge
    8. I hate playing heavy in ranked it’s just plainly not fun. As a controller player heavy just feels like the recoil is a bit much and I end up missing half my shots (skill issue)
    9. When you cater to everyone, you cater to no one. It’s really a double edged sword.

      so about your 1. point, since I just stopped worrying about my rank I had a lot more fun in ranked and because I had fun I played better wich made me win wich again let me have fun and now i am gold 1 and I think I can reach diamond. but if I don't, who cares?

      Stun nerf was definetely too much. It should still disable gadgets and specializations. The light class was already weak enough, the nerf was honestly unnecessary. People claim that its not fun but guess what an rpg, 2 shields, barricades and 350 hp with good guns is also not fun to play against.

    Will probably be seeing a lot less barricades now that you can't headglitch them as a heavy, which is nice. If you want to use a barricade, you have to use it properly instead of in a cheesy way. I think we will be seeing more lights due to the glitch grenade change also as this is insanely strong against mesh and bubbles if you're coordinated.

    I’m not sure how I feel about the matchmaking in the unranked modes. Is sbmm very strong in this game? When I get on to play, it feels like I still have to be switched on, dialed in, and play to my best and get a lot of damage/kills to be able to win. Even though damage/kills are not the most important part of the game.
    For example in Quick Cash I feel like I lose a lot of games when i dont have 15-20+ kills.

    Not a fan of their balancing. I get it. But I’m casual. They tend to nerf the fun out of the game. Right now as an average player light sword absolutely owns medium with any of the ARs. They shoot marshmallows. Before you can dump a full clip which most times doesn’t fully kill a light anyway they are in your face two swipes and you are gone lol

    unless recoil is ridiculous it's not a factor in balance.for example in CS go different weapons matter more in different situations depending on the recoil but in this game The Recoil doesn't matter it's more about time to kill reload speed and other factors.

    If you don't mind, i'm gonna copy paste the comment i did yesterday c:
    I have a mix feelings about this patch. Some changes are great but they didn't tweeked the none use guns. I think with the barricade change they could decrease the height to get full covered while you are crouch or something.
    About ranked, I have an idea that i was talking with my friends and i think is kinda good. Have you played insurgency sandstorm? In that game when you make your loadout, you have "loadout points", called supply boxes. Every single thing you chose to your loadout has a cost; the best weapons cost a lot of supply boxes, but you have no armor and only a flashbang, and if you go with really good armor, grenades and a lot of ammo, you have weapons with low damage, penetration, etc.
    Imagine that in ranked, every gadget has a cost, so if you want a heavy high dps go for it, but you won't be able to use mesh and dome shield and barricade since you don't hav enough loadout points. You want medium fcar dps? Go for it, but you can't have diff with healing gun at the same time. You want heavy super tanky? Go ahead, but you will able to use only sledge hammer or flammethrower. The point is, the low use and kinda "bad" weapons and gadget has low loadout points cost, and the better oned, high cost. In that escenario you balance the loadouts a little bit more. THIS ONLY IN RANKED.

    My personal take (I'm not high elo tho) on light is that it's fine as an in and out class but every DMG you do just gets reverted by healing beam and every single kill gets reverted by defib
    Just nerfing healing/defib/rpg would do a lot of good towards light
    Light shines in the new game mode bc there is no healing so any type of burst DMG stays and that's exactly what a in-out class needs
    But pls give ur opinion on this since I don't play in high elo's and would love to hear ur opinion!

    Dude I hate this update. They essentially put sbmm in casual. Totally blows and feels mega sweaty every match. It also feels more clunky? Idk. For me on console it feels different some how? Like movement is slower? Constant network issues and no reg shots. Update was a nightmare.

    The heavy’s Lewis gun needs a damage nerf and the Ks shotgun needs a buff really bad i think if they increase the mag size to 8 from 6 and increase the damage to 110 from 100 would be good they should try to buff light maybe give him 175hp from 150hp and nerf mediums turret health to 150

    U can definitely say that this light nerf was not a good idea even before watching the vid. just play one ranked game and behold the HHM compositions...
    Thats sad because the light class started to be picked up only few patches ago, we've been so close to the LHM meta - and this was great
    I think the cloak and stun must been nerfed someday (thats not healthy type of gameplay for such game, where the speed and braingames are so concetrated)
    But since the cloak and stun were only the few of real team oriented and helpful gadgets this nerf is just a coffine.
    For the light class at this state u cant just nerf this shit, the only way to do it is buff the others specializations, buff few gadgets that havent been played
    I thought its clear for everyone at this point, because we already had the season one when the lights were more a troll pick.. I really cant understand why devs are not seeing this
    And yeah, what about buffing some new weapons? Why they just dont give a shit? Isn't it the killing feature of the S2? like wtf

      You're only seeing it from the eyes of a ranked player, in the other modes Light was/is quite a lot more dominant. In quick cash my lobbies have mostly been LLL, LLM, MMM, MLM. Barely see any heavies and since heavies only feel strong with the support of medium, they get absolutely demolished in quick play. In power shift I see the most divers choices, many mediums with turret/heal and aps, Heavies with sheild/goo/mesh, lights with sword/sniper or anything els. Power shift really is the most balanced from what I have seen with a few exceptions like when everyone on your team is a light or something but that's just what it is, exception. Bank it has always been the lights playground, I don't think I need to say anything about it. And finally coming to the new S&D mode, Light and medium are super strong in this mode, at least from my limited experience till now. Mediums turrets are HUGE game changers while light absolutely demolishes everyone since there is limited health. I actually had an all light team today and thought we probably lost the match but instead won by 4-0 as we destroyed our opponents. Maybe over time as people co-ordinate more and understand the game mode new metas will be created.
      I think devs are doing their best and probably have a high-level view on how to bring about changes and probably have flagged items they want to nerf or buff. It takes quite a lot of planning as any change could drastically change entire gameplay, so they do experiment here and there. Also they have the data on the class pickrate, distribution of classes across various modes etc, I just believe they'll do/are doing what they think is best for their game.

    The stun was unnecessary. The only thing you are useful for your team now with the stun is stopping cashouts. The stun was so good for stopping dfibs and rocket. They should rebuff the glitch nade time if they're going to do this with the stun

    I think one of the problem is hp. They go from 150, 250 and then 350 for each class. I wonder if reducing the go of heavy and medium by 59 would help. Like playing the new mode which is kind of competitive is not bad with light because of the 100 hp threshold.

    Light's fine. Peeps gotta get gud with glitch, sonar and gateway. Even tracking darts a decent pick. Still think health could go up a touch but would have to see how that affects TTK across all weapons. Also, barricade defos feels like a Nerf, but nobody's talking about how you can use goo to get the headglitch (still not as good but I run it as a goo main)

    9:21 honestly despite sniper being an annoying playstyle to face in general, dont nerf it. What should be nerfed (at least for power shift’s purpose) is the APS turret, maybe give it a couple shots and then it need to recharge for a few seconds?

    7:43 There’s a difference between being gifted strong items when choosing lighter builds, but when you’re given a gadget aka stun gun that’s basically a guaranteed kill (not to mention cloak paired with), it becomes more of a nuisance than anything to play against, sorry but no the change is needed

      yeah i agree stun was overtuned and i think the way it is now is better for the health of the game they need to rework healing beam and nerf mediums turret health to 150 cuz its a nuisance when paired with 3 other turrets plus the players guarding them they need to nerf lewis guns dps and need to buff the Ks shotgun really badly because when compared to every other guns dps it’s terrible and very difficult to use

    Ottr had made a video on 17 classes in the finals. I think the dev should not so much as there are only 3 classes, but there are 17 of them. People don't like playing heavy because Bunker heavy is dominating. Beside constant nerf of Bunker Heavy, they should look at buffing different heavy class. Sledgehammer heavy, Aggro heavy and so on. This would create more variety in each of the 3 build type. This will also allow for the dev to cater certain class being good or bad in high/low elo and different mode.

      @someonesomewhere8265 it's a good option for close range but it's hard to poke with, the fcar fit medium well because it was shor burst dps over 20 rounds allowing you to poke fast and return to supporting. I'm not trying to say I'm totally castrated, but I find less aggression when playing medium now. It's why I hate the dog walk meta, medium has less space to be agressive

    I think Heavy is VERY fun but people will naturally gravitate towards the super fast class in most games. With so few movement options and the slowest natural speed, it makes sense that Heavy would be the least picked by players.
    And its a shame because it has beenthe most broken class the entire time

    the stun gun... above all... SHOULD STOP GADGET USE! i'm sorry... but light players in high ranks need to play on their terms every fight and they have 150hp. i can be "fine" with ADS... i can be "fine" with specialisation use even tho some degree i do like also locking off when i stun them. but i wanna... get rid of the defib usage, the RPG and all the other strong gadgets. but they just get to turn around and -140hp me... cool i had a great time. thx embark

    if even a high elo player is confused by how health is balanced in this game, then i have no hope for this community...

    no, just no... in The Finals the contestant health is a direct function of body size and an inverted direct function of contestant movement speed. the bigger and slower you are, the more health you get. because big and slow contestants are easier to acquire as a target and easier to track and easier to consistently hit.
    and that is all. gadgets and weapons are not part of that equation and they never were. lights are "squishy" because they have the smallest and fastest hitbox, their speed is their life.
    gadgets and weapons should be balanced among the three classes, with no weapon or gadget particularly stronger than their counterpart.

      That is not at all how the game is balanced or intended to be balanced, the weapons and dmg gets better on the light class, on top of this the devs have even discussed balancing around the 3 classes in a podcast and they even described the goal with the classes. What i said was not an assumption its just directly from how the devs discussed their own game. If you want to state you disagree with this decision that is totally ok but ive been invested in this game since the under nda closed alpha and have played with devs and talked to them. I get confused on some of their decisions but this isnt one of the things im confused about

    I am so disappointed in this patch… i used to run LLM in the top ranks and it was a lot of fun as we were even able to outplay top level HHM teams. I played medium since launch and now they have taken away a lot of frag potential for medium + entry options for light. We basically cant win anymore in high elo its so depressing… GGs tho pls just revert this shit patch

      here’s a issue with catering to competitive play entirely the game becomes very soulless and loses the ability to actually have fun with the game because if your not using the competitive side of the games meta you’ll lose every match that happened to a game called for honor it use to cater to being slightly competitive but more arcady and once they switched to being completely competitive the game lost all of its soul and died off
