- Hello there everybody, and welcome to a video where I thoroughly test and explain what each of the 9 attributes do in ARK: Survival Ascended. Given that Movement Speed is no longer in the game by default and some of the attribute point allocation has changed, I figured an in-depth guide would benefit a lot of players both new and old.

Food: It just gives you more Food-Pointsa, meaning that you don't run with empty Stomach, since the Amouint of Food your Stomach can carry increased.
You clearly failed to mention that little critical Detail.
It's basically just like Stamina, letting you run longer.
The same with WATER.
Basically, you should see the loss of Food and water as a Percentage, completely clarifying the difference.
With 10 Points invested in Food or water, you looose half the percentage of Food/Water.
So for Water, at 0 in Water it's 1% Water per 5HP, while on 10 Points it's 0.5% of Water.
Your statement of "You clearly failed to mention that little critical Detail" makes it sounds as if I'm purposefully omitting information for some reason. The whole purpose of this video is to share information with the community. This isn't some "gotcha" moment, so let me break it down:
Food is not the same as Stamina because it regenerates naturally without having to consume anything to cause the effect (provided there's a Food/Water pool to draw from). Food and Water only regenerate with consumption, which doesn't change based on the amount of points you have invested (for instance, eating 5 pieces of Cooked Meat will restore 100 Food regardless of how many points you've invested into Food). Water works the same way. This essentially makes both of these stats pretty worthless because you end up needing to consume the same amount of Food and Water in the end. The only exception is if you're consuming Custom Food Recipes that give crazy amounts of Food/Water, in which case you can exceed the default cap. But say you invest 10 points into Food and 10 points into Water to make that happen, you just lost 20 points that could have been Health, Weight or Fortitude, which most players would argue are far more beneficial in nearly every gameplay scenario.
Also while the loss of Food/Water ARE to be percentage-based, it doesn't change or scale with a higher Food/Water pool. You do NOT "looose half the percentage" as you put it because the loss isn't based on the total size of the Food/Water pool, but rather the amount of stamina or health that has been lost. It's the same percentage loss regardless of how many points you've invested. This is exactly why I performed the testing that I did to prove that these stats are essentially worthless.
I hope this clarified things and didn't add to the confusion. In the future, I would ask that you respect the work that content creators put in - I've decided to pin your comment to give you the attention you're seeking.
Ok, I'm gonna make a Point, comparing it with a Vehicle:
Let's say, you have a Vehicle that got a Tank with 100 liters, and the Motor Consumes 1Liter for 1 Kilometer.
The. According to your Video, getting a 200 Liter-Tank to replace the 100 Liter-Tank is Pointless because the Vehicle still consumes 1 Liter for 1 Kilometer, and still needs to be filled with 200 Liters to be full, while leaving out the Fact, that the Range your Vehicle can do ist practically doubled.
Transporting extra-canisters for the Tank would be the equivalent to carrying food-Items or Water in ASA.
@@SoHBetaSword Correct, but regardless of the tank size, the gasoline consumption remains the same - what good does going longer on a tank of gas do when gasoline is cheap, easily accessible and lightweight in this case? Why install a larger tank when you could invest in alternative vehicle parts that essentially reduce the consumption of gasoline (Fortitude Vs. Weather), increase the health of the vehicle (Health) and increase the carry capacity in the trunk (Weight)?
You're overthinking it. You don't have to see it as a percentage because it's not. The amount you lose over time and gain per food consumed does not change with points in these stats. Yes, it will take longer to deplete but it's flat scaling, not percentage.
To clarify, you start with 100 food max, we'll assume it takes 5 minutes to deplete while standing still in perfect weather conditions. If you increase your food to 200, it only adds 5 extra minutes while stationary in perfect weather. And just the same, when you run completely out, you eat 5 cooked meat (20 food per meat) to fill 100 food, it would require 10 cooked meat to fill it back up with 200. By increasing food you only make it a longer time before having to eat again, but the amount you eat remains the same.
@@k-daddy9988 Precisely.
PHEW... This video was a tough one to make, but ultimately it was pretty fun testing everything. Hopefully it explains all of the game's attributes in well enough detail that you can make an informed decision about what kind of character stat build you should be going for. Please leave me comments if I missed anything, or if there is any other information you'd like to share with the ARK community! :)
Pro tip: if you talk about some other video you make, put a link to it somewhere in the video, description or comment. ;) now i'mma gpogle your crafting video.
@@VASM160689 Yeah, but now I've got you looking through my catalog of awesome videos, so which method is more proactive? ;)
I just assumed that points in food/water is just to give you a larger pool before you starve/dehydrate, similar to health.
That is exactly what it does, but I had to test it. LOL
Those points would be better spent on fortitude. If you’re ever eyeing food or water, slap that point into fort and ignore food and water.
@DirtyMike7 that is what I personally tend to do.
@@BunnehGaming I think a good argument could be made for putting some points in water since it can be refilled when it rains. So, having more points in water means you can go longer between storms.
@@dukefrywokker6470 That is a great point to make. I still think it is far more beneficial to invest those points into something else instead, but that's a great suggestion. Thanks for the comment!
Appreciate the time you spend to teach us 🙏
My pleasure!
😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I believe you get different stat values per point invested depending on your difficulty. I accidentally started on medium difficulty, and for every level I invested into fortitude, I got 4 points. When I set my difficulty to hard, I only got 2 points of fortitude for every level, and the change was retroactive. Still worth the investment, I think, especially when they start releasing DLC maps.
Aside from that, your video is awesome. Informative, straight-to-the-point, and well-edited. Instant subscribe.
That's very interesting! I actually didn't know that difficulty levels played a part in changing the attributes so thanks for the heads up. Also, thanks for the kind comment and subscription :)
Good vid! IIRC having movement speed leveling turned on also re-enables the oxygen stat boosting your swim speed.
Thank you! That's a great bit of information to know about Oxygen too, thanks for sharing!
Very informative yet also just a great video to watch with a smooth flow.
Thanks man I appreciate it :)
great info that we really needed to know, Thank you :)
My pleasure! I'm glad it was helpful.
Very informative video! Thank you!
Absolutely! Thanks for the kind comment!
Very useful thanks for your hard work!
Absolutely! Thanks for the kind comment!
Nice dude! Super helpful!
Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful.
Idea: Higher Food stats increase health regeneration
Higher Water stat increases stamina regeneration and also reduces the waiting interval before regeneration starts after stopping any action.
Food could also be applied to creatures as well to make that stat not worthless, possibly even combine Food / Water benefits since creatures dont have a water stat.
Oxygen could also have a secondary benefit of reducing the stamina drain of running and attacking. Again, creatures could benefit from this as well. Creatures like Stegos are PAINFULLY fucking slow, and also for some reason have an insane stamina drain rate for sprinting. Higher oxygen reducing this could mitigate some of the suffering of speed-walking them around.
Those are all great suggestions! It would definitely change the way players invest their points and make those throwaway stats on creatures more bearable.
another great informative guide👍
Thanks James!
I was particularly interested in you going in depth on Fortitude when you announced the video. I was always a one or two point max in Fortitude on ASE but when I finally get to play ASA, I'm going to look at investing more especially considering movement speed can't be levelled. Thanks for the info!
It's definitely a worth-while stat to invest in, especially if you're someone who likes to play on foot a lot, or don't have high-end gear with good insulation values.
Thank you for the video
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
I'm glad I found you when I did a couple years ago, I no longer have to use my friends as test subjects for what would normally have me sent to prison for war crimes and torture
LOL well for your friend's sakes I'm glad too!
You got a like for the work.
Checking your other videos to see if I want to sub.
Thank you for the video.
Thanks I appreciate it - you better buckle up though because I've got some weird ones.
i don't know why imprinting stats don't show when open dino inventory even when i get 100 percent imp ?btw thanks for the video ..really helpful
No idea why that would be happening with the imprinting stats, but thanks for the nice comment and I'm glad it helped!
The hp fall cap was around 600ish in ASE. so having 600 hp means you can survive from max map high to ground level and survive.
I just went back and did some more testing, and it seems that 870 Health is the next magic number, but even there I only walked away with like 6HP. For clarification, I retested from 500HP all the way up to 1000HP again to narrow it down to that number.
Just wondering, you tested the attributes singularly? Or did you try also combinations? Like does weight, stam or anytihng else combined with health do anything to reduce fall damage? Does combination of more stam and more water change anything, same with health and food stat?
good vid!
I did not test combinations of attributes, as I believe they're all independent from one another based on the testing I did perform. For instance, health regeneration will drain your food stat, but it seems to be by a percentage of each point of food, and not the total "pool" of the Food stat. From everything I've seen, there is no co-dependencies or stacking effects from having combined stats - if anyone finds information differing, then I would love to hear about it and explore it more in-depth. Thanks for the comment and hopefully that helps :)
@@BunnehGaming Thanks, I'll probably get game this evening (i think). I won't be testing to this extent, but will be keeping an eye out for any cool new *under the hood* features.
ayyyy silly rabit man posted again
Thanks
You're welcome :)
Sad I put point in water food I thought it reduced need but thanks for info
No problem man, you can always Mindwipe later down the road to erase the mistake haha
Yeeea these needed a change. But idk if this is it. We see though while leveling this time around. Not having to keep dumping levels into speed is nice but it makes it feel weird when choosing levels. I just found myself putting those levels into weight or health. Idk if its better or not we see as I said.
Yeah the change is strange - I was hoping they made Food and Water more viable to offset the lack of Movement Speed, but as the testing showed that doesn't seem to be the case.
Does crafting skill works on engrams learned in leveling up or only in the blueprints you find on loots?
It speeds up the crafting of unlocked engrams if they're crafted inside your inventory, but it doesn't affect the quality of the item. Crafting Skill will only affect the quality of the item if it's a blueprint.
You could get more from custom recipes by raising food/water. Increase crafting skill to get ridiculous value from meat/drink then respec with points in food/water to absorb recipes.
I suppose in the case of a highly upgraded Food Recipe (as in greater than 100 Food per bite) then having a higher food pool would be beneficial - but I still feel that those points would be far better spent investing into Health, Weight or Fortitude.
I agree, it was the only situation I could think of to get value from food or water.
@BunnehGaming food including recipes stop healing once food bar is full so you lose alot of potential healing without it. Usually I go to 120-160 easy now that I'm not dropping 40+ points into speed so I can gain over 60 extra quick hp from food in a pinch.
Wait so does food stay give you more food? Like drain at same rate but it will take twice as long to get to 0 or something like that? And would need to eat more to get back to full or no?
From the testing I did, investing points into Food DOES NOT increase the amount of food you get from eating something - all it does is increase the total "pool" of Food available. So with that being said, yes you would need to eat more food to get back to full.
My question with the food stat: is how much you recover from eating percentage based? That could make a difference for players on pteranodons trying to min max weight. Probably still never worth it, but worth the question
Unfortunately Food is not percentage based and does not scale with levels. For instance, 1 piece of Cooked Meat will provide 20 Food, regardless of what your character's Food stat is (could be 100 base, or could be 500, either way you're only gaining 20 Food from the consumption). Someone did point out that a crafted food recipe would be more valuable, because a lot of the time they can give HUGE amounts of food and water, in which case it would technically last you longer, but those points would be FAR better off spent into a different attribute IMO.
@@BunnehGamingyou won't regain any hp from food if your foods 100/100 its just wasted heals at that point.
Great video! I'm still stuck in the beginning of why people are harassing you for pronunciation. The English language is so stupid in that the same word is pronounced differently depending on what it's used for. Like read and read, tear and tear erc.
People with superiority complexes will always thrive on the internet - I enjoy poking fun more than I enjoy adapting, but in some cases I admit defeat and concede that I can better my pronunciation of certain words :)
Food in the water state is very important because nobody wants to have to eat and drink water every 14.2 seconds. It is by far the most tedious and irritating thing about this game and that's why I always boost my food and water way up so I never have to eat or drink except for maybe once an hour then I can completely forget about it
I can understand how boosting Food and Water would help with longer intervals between eating, which would be good for AFKing from the game, but the issue lies with no reductions, boosts, or alternative benefits. Mathematically speaking, you're still going to consume the same amount of food with 100 Food/Water as you would with 500 Food/Water, so for most players these stats are pointless. You can't exactly run around dehydrated or starving either because of the penalties to Stamina regeneration and torpidity, so if you are suffering from those status effects you kind of need to eat and can't prolong it very long.
But to each their own - if those stats are for you, so be it :)
Can u let me know if there is a teether range still in single player
I think there will always be a tether. I don’t think the game could ever make that not a thing, a persons computer would be the problem.
I run my food low on ASE so that cooked meat heals me a bit before I get health packs, wonder if running 200 food on ASA and using cooked meat would be practical to basically have health packs early on
Could be an interesting way of using the stat - I guess one of the only benefits haha
@@BunnehGaming they really should give food and water something extra.. one of the things I love about valheim is their food/beverage system, gives you thought and choices
@@joshuafruth6420 I completely agree, Valheim's food/beverage system is awesome :)
I was hoping they overlooked the water/ swimming movement 😅😮😢
Unfortunately, they did not. LOL
id have to double check but im pretty sure fortitude goes up by 2 as i have 10 fortitude on smalltribe official
Someone else just commented that difficulty level apparently plays a part in the amount of Fortitude you get per point, so perhaps on Small Tribe servers it's a bit different.
l@@BunnehGaming small tribe and official have the same difficulty lvl as the only difference is xp taming gathering and breeding. if the dificulty lvl was changed then the max dino spawn in the world would be different from official and small tribe official
Are you and woody harrelson gonna do another zombieland movie?
If it means co-starring with Emma Stone, absolutely! Just don't tell my wife...
Oxygen no longer boosting swim speed is such a bummer...
I completely agree.
How many attribute points do you get per level up?
You get one attribute point per level.
@@BunnehGaming Never played ark before haha, using your vid as a start and then rushing to 100 asap so I don't just die instantly :P
@@RestrictedTWO Ahh gotcha - first time through it's best to take your time leveling and learn the game. After that, subsequent leveling is usually accomplished by completing The Island Note Run because it gets you a lot of levels in a short time frame. I have a video of the run on the channel if you're interested.
@@BunnehGaming yeah that's why I was gonna rush to around 90, to unlock engram, and be able to boost hp/fort/craft/weight.. I plan to go crossbow/compound bow so not much need for melee damage, right?
@@RestrictedTWO yeah melee damage doesn't do anything for ranged damage.
i love the testing progress, doing this in a game like scum would make you go mad XD
Yeah I don't even think I would attempt it in Scum LOL
before the int update i went prone and crawled from one end of the map to the other and back and only went to medium from basic, took a full 24 hours on just crawling haha@@BunnehGaming
did the math and it would take from zero to max something like 1400 hours of skill grind alone
@@GrenadeDave That's insane LOL
Umm. You have a x2 mod on your fortitude. Fortitude does not give 4 per point, it gives 2 per point.
My game is like this. The wiki says the same thing too.
Is this the game that should have been dlc?
This is the ARK: Survival Evolved remake that was originally announced as a free upgrade, then turned into a remaster and sold as an independent game.
draining the same amount from a bigger pool of food or water means u can last longer before u need to eat or drink. is wat you forgot to add after proclaiming the 2 stats are useless...
Yeah but you have to eat the same amount of food so it literally is useless lol
Yes, @-_Blitz_- gets it. They are useless stats because you have to eat and drink the same amount in the end, which is why I spent time testing to see if the drain changed or if there were any other benefits, but there isn't.
Very good very. Like ridiculously meticulate
Thanks man :) I tried my best - I'm sure there are a few vultures waiting to pick it apart, but if it helps the general community, then it's mission successful IMO.
Good riddance to movement speed with exception to CANCEROUSLY SLOW DINOS (looking at you, Stego) Wish they'd have at least boosted their base speeds to compensate especially seeing as a stego in full sprint seems silly and unrealistic.
Also, I thought there was a patch in ase that removed swimming speed with oxygen but I could be mistaken.
I agree, Movement Speed was out of hand, especially in PVP. I always feated it because it was sort of necessary to survive, but it's kind of nice just having a higher base speed and more points to work with
I loved the speed. RIP speed.
I know me too, but it was janky most of the time LOL
You goofed on the stamina one. You were wearing flippers. Flippers Reduce stamina drain in water by a massive margin. Do it without flippers next time, it'll give you the real results. Love the video though
I did test it without flippers first, the clip just didn't make it into the video to save on time. Stamina drain was still stupid low and not really worth comparing LOL
@@BunnehGaming oh shit my bad. I didn't know, thought I was being helpful lol. That's good to know at least, thank you.
@@goldeneyekiller101 No worries man :) Thanks for the watch and hopefully you check out some of my other stuff too!
550 hp and you can survive max fall damage
That is a false statement. I address it within the first few minutes of the video - did you even watch it to see the results of all of the extensive testing I did?
this is exactly the testing and science i need to keep watching ark ASA 😂or even use a dime on and on ark evolved using points into food or water was a mega advantage since instead of eating every 10 minute you could go 4 hrs without eating like in REAL LIFE asa seems more made of delusional and gueesing rather than facs but again it had to be raped out october 🤣🤣🤣
Why don't you pronounce it Haych Pee instead of HP?
Because I'm not British.
Food and water is very important
