What a Great guy! I saw him at Saratoga performance arts! He gave us all goose bumps, we all stood and cried, some of us weeped! His message still rings true, he was such a strong advocate for all of us! I used this with children's who thought their live was over, useless and "no one ever loved me"! When he sings about being on the threshold of the dream he is fighting something that threatens to crush him but it doesn't because he is putting his being into the song. He wants to live and thrive and cast his desperation aside...music lifts us from lows and it is showcased here. Other versions dont have the crack in his voice that I detect in this rendition.

The last seconds of the recording are powerful-there is still hunger, and killing despite the urgency to end this madness. JD was angry that nothing has changed and tried to serve others in his humanitarian work. To have faith is to believe in others. I got to see him in his heyday when I was a kid. The concert was insanely crowded, it was when he would do two shows a night, full coliseum shows and he would bump up the first show to be like 6 PM and push the night show back to be a late show. Really, he was a total superstar...and remember before the web you only got to see stars on TV or in person. So these concerts were real events, not like today.

As a child I loved him, I was ways singing his songs in the car, while swinging, always. Even as a child he touched my spirit on a pure level that resonated, but I really didn't have the life experience to understand. Now at 50, I realize what a treasure he was and the legacy of his songs are. He was like a prophet of truth and it would be wise if the world would listen again. Same here. I first saw him on the Tonight Show as a teenager and bought his albums. I'm sorry to say I grew away from his music when I was in my mid 20s.
But I was on RUclips several months ago and suddenly there he was. I discovered so many wonderful songs that I'd never heard! And his voice had matured and become even more beautiful! I feel badly that I had abandoned him when his popularity was waning and he needed his fans more than ever. Now 40 years after I'd stopped listening to him, I spend every day with his music, wishing he were here to spread his message of peace to the world. We need him now more than ever! This was on one of his albums from way back. I wouldn't call it rare. Love the song Love John, miss him so sad he died so young at 53. He has accomplished so much at such a young age even at 43.
