I cannot stress how ridiculously influential this album has become. bass boosted beats over esoteric vocals about unconventional topics? sounds like hyperpop to me
This album bout to jump up at least ten rankings on RYM just because of this video
we live in a society
Sad but true..
No, Anthony doesn't influence the rankings. Only the number of listeners.
@@Andrei4224 bruh
@@tumultuousv RYM is a vast community, not every RYM user watches Fantano and not every viewer copies Fantano's opinion(some of us have our own).
This is the most disturbing pop album I’ve ever heard and a true classic in the realm of outsider art. It reminds me a lot of The Shaggs’ “Philosophy of the World” where they’re both albums that are good for reasons the artists never intended, and it’s often hard to make fun of them given the traumatic circumstances both came from.
You definitely smell your own farts.
This album is unlistenable garbage.
Awful comment.
She had no other intention than to pay someone who "works in audio" to "make a record". She didn't care in any way.

Me when I have to explain that I actually like that Japanese pop album that Mussolini's granddaughter put out back in the 80s.
LINK???
@@bon.8819 It's called Amore by Alessandra Mussolini.
Thank you for this, you changed the trajectory of my timeline
i'm italian and she's a huge fascist and apologist of her grandfather and i loathe her but i absolutely have to listen to this
@@drhall343 Thank you, you're about to change my life, I just know it.
the overlapping whispers of "don't tell, don't let it get out" on after prom are fucking haunting, man. there's a real vulnerability in farrah's voice. an insane album.
Dude you can’t be serious….
Yeah that's genuinely so fucking unnerving
At this point I can't tell if y'all are being serious or not
the album is, in my opinion, unmatched in how freaky it is. even without context it's a bit strange and disorienting, and with context it's genuinely disturbing and beautiful; the story is so painfully personal and almost nightmarish. with how weird this record is, I can understand people giving this any score, but personally this is a 10. excellent record, very odd
This album "unmatched in how freaky it is"? Have you listened to nothing but John Denver albums your entire life?
@@profd65 not even a little. I've heard things that are compositionally tough such as harsh noise, raw black metal, serialist composition, no wave, hardcore punk, and totalism, alongside other things that on the surface seem far more unforgiving than this, and my opinion still stands.
Edit: spelling issue
@@themandownstairs4765 I think how raw and unhinged it is is what makes it so much freakier than genres that sound disturbing on the surface (raw black metal like you mentioned)
If you aren’t trolling, then you’ve reached a level of music snobbery unheard of by humankind. This album is irredeemable. You hipsters really listen to dogshit and pretend it’s good to feel cool. Wild.
@@themandownstairs4765 Oh, pardon me: it's 2022 and you're trotting out hardcore punk, no wave, and black metal to prove that you too have listened to unsettling, edgy music? Those are forty year old genres. What low percentage of the population is actually still shocked by that music? A lot of what those genres have to offer leached into the mainstream a long time ago. If you consider that stuff freaky, no wonder you're bowled over by "My Teenage" whatever it's called.
Swans listened to My Teenage Dream Ended, went back in time and made Volcano
It's genuinely one of the most emotionally distressing albums I've ever heard
it’s actually a very heart wrenching and depressing album once you know the context.
Tell me more about it
But is it good?
@@lorddrac_dontaskmetodance some of the instrumentals are cool but the vocals are totally goofy

Fantano always talks about mbdtf as a great work and important album when he references it lol. Funny how he gives it a 6/10 and constantly talks about how good it is.
@@AbsentMindedA same with yeezus
It literally sounds like a Crystal Castles album ordered from wish
I added this album to my massive spotify playlist as a joke, on the off chance it showed up. I've enjoyed atleast 2 of the songs off the record unknowingly for most of the song until I realized, and I wasn't sure if anyone felt any enjoyment towards this album until now. Thank you mantano
I know not everyone liked/will like this album, but there was a strong "I'm 14 and I'm an atheist" energy reading the negative RYM reviews for My Teenage Dream Ended.
it was 2012, too, so its "incels mad at a messy teen girl" pt. 10000000
RYM is cancer now.
'I'm 14 and I'm atheist' is like half of RYM userbase
@@bzymek7054 "14" maybe. But "atheist" sadly and definitely not…
@@nikokaapa why?
Farrah Abraham basically created hyperpop
lol i've been listening to this too, also got back into Sixteen and Pregnant because of it. in a way it reminds me of burzum lmao. and how he would just create things without planning or editing or production because he was like 18 and just figured out he could make music., theres a confident quality to the "badness" that amateurs have that you cant really get back and that album is that, except it's not a 1 follower soundcloud, its an album that people actually listen to. lol i want to hear what the producer is making now.
honestly, i don’t think i’ve ever seen these two things compared in my entire life lmao
Yes! I hear this comparison all the time and I totally agree! It has the same rawness and pure insanity that a lot of the early Burzum EPs and albums had. A lot of the weird experimentation as well. She’s like the Burzum of outsider pop
glad "liar liar" is the song you pointed out here-didn't love the album (respected it but i can tell when somethings not for me stylistically) but that track in particular just felt really beautiful. definitely the stand-out track for me.
its so weird it sounds like a Yona cut off of C but with guitars
The happy stretched out album cover with Farrah smiling in contrast with the absolutely haunting music makes for some genuine horror vibes. Lmao
It actually is so perfect tho, it fits with the contrast of the dance beats with the devastating lyrics, it had a sense of her smiling trough the pain, and the only way to see behind the mask she is putting on is to listen to the album
"Shh dont tell, dont let it get out."
- Farrah Abrahams Producer probably
Fantano I can’t believe all along you actually liked the Tones and I record. Really shows the degree of honesty and transparency that you have and I really admire that mr tony.
i know this a joke but tones is prolly actually worse cuz she's actually tryin to make good music while teenage dream is absolutely not
This really would fit perfectly as a hyperpop deconstruction if it were released today
This has to be the peak of outsider music. It's one of the most fascinating and depressing albums I've heard with how direct it is in telling Farrah's story
This isn't "outsider music." This is some chick from a reality show who blabbed to a click track, and then this blabbing was laid over the top a producer's compositions.
@@profd65 How is that different from William Hung or Florence Foster Jenkins? that's what outsider music is, and this album is much more emotionally potent than many of the loose genre's classics
@@profd65 shut up

Its hard to tell if this album is stupid… or if i’m just too stupid to understand this album
Its like it accidentally deconstructed the modern pop music of its time and went on to influence its future. Its honestly amazing
You commented this on her page too!
I don't watch fantano but this video popped up on my feed and I just want to say yall are so pretentious yall will defend actual trash. Like at this point someone could accidentally knock dishes off the shelves with a recorder on and yall would call the noise recorded some ahead of its time metaphor for societal disruption I stg
YOU
It’s not hard. It’s stupid. You are only stupid for doubting yourself.
You're not too stupid, just listen to it on drugs or develop neurodivergency/mental illness idk.
There is no argument to be made that this is a bad album. The people hating on it are judging it based on preconceived ideas on what music is supposed to sound like and that method doesn’t work when you have something extremely experimental or different from how mainstream music usually sounds. Just cause you can’t judge a piece of art without any expectations of what it’s supposed to sound like doesn’t mean it’s a bad piece of art.
just listened to this like a week ago, and I don't think I've ever seen an album convey what it's like to have a panic attack at a nightclub so vividly before
Unironically one of my favourite albums as of recent, havent been this obsessed with an album since 1000 gecs, theres a comment i read that sums it up pretty perfectly that it being the album feels like having an mdma come down during the middle of a rave concert
My theory is that this album is heavily inspired by Paul McCartney's Temporary Secretary. I don't have any proof to back it up, but in my heart i know it's true
I agree with your theory. Very good observation indeed
Honest to god, this album is one of the best of all time. You could never make an album like this again. It is a once in a universe experience.
This album is what my parents hear when they hear Yeezus
I have genuinely cried to the opening track of this album. I have recently lost a loved one and that song genuinely hits hard
I re-discovered this album last month and yes, it's crazy (in a good way). It sounds nostalgic (for the era), futuristic (in terms of things to come in music), raw, ..just a project you can't forget
i listened to a bit of the album in the background while watchin this & it's actually not as bad as i thought. would i regularly listen to this? absolutely not. but very interesting nonetheless. can definitely see the similarities in the music released after this too
you have terrible taste of music
ah yes, the album that invented a genre, hyperpop
I really liked this record. Even if it's not artfully/masterfully executed, a lot of the lyrics are genuinely very affecting. From the very opening song, and its closing verse where Farrah talks about how "I still had so many other days planned for you
/ I still look forward to talking to you/ I still picture us together", you know it's going to be heavy.
Plus "Caught in the Act" is genuinely one of the most insane things I've heard in my life, and "On My Own" and "Finally Getting Up From Rock Bottom" are straight up bangers. It's a rewarding listen, even if not totally "enjoyable". Like a strong 7 from me.

Wow Anthony this video threw me for a loop. Thanks for bringing this up! This lyric has haunted my memories for years: “SHH DON’T TELL DON’T TELL DON’T TELL SHH DON’T LET IT GET OUT” layered over and over and over like it’s Throbbing Gristle, it sends me to hell. I quote that frequently with my close friends. It is such a weird garage band mess and i joked it with friends for years. I love that we’re exploring the art of it now and thinking about WHY it sounds like gecs and PC music
what a coincidence that i just found out about this album a few days ago and you're now talking about it
While I'm into the weirdness of this album, I'm surprised you didn't like Uffie's work from the late 2000s. She was also a prototype artist of today's hyperpop.
Awful take. She was just doing a rich girl version of 80s electro.

I can't tell if I'm being trolled or, not so I'm gonna check it out
But what are your thoughts on the "MY Teenage Dream Ended" rerelease version with "Dereks Visitation" ?
This album is fascinatingly weird, & a great listen. I feel it could really use a physical release for the first time.
I imagine a 180 gram pressing on pink & blue sparkle vinyl or traditional black that comes with a copy of the book & summary paper on what led to the album.
I could see a label like Needlejuice (gave physical pressings to The Scary Jokes - Burn Pygmalion! & Lemon Demon - Spirit Phone & repressed Tally Hall - Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum on vinyl or CD.) or Vinyl Me, Please fulfilling this gap entirely.
It doesn’t sit right with me that this album remains digital when Viper - Y’all Cowards Don’t Smoke Crack got pressed on vinyl officially. It doesn’t make sense!

I usually like a strange pop album but this gets worse and worse when I decide to give this another chance. Its just trash to me nothing really pleasant or oddly cool about it in my opinion.
She’s rotted. She was on a season of the uk big brother and there were just no redeeming qualities. Yeah, it’s reality tv, but she was filmed every day 24 hours for over a month and was just a constant display of racism, homophobia and just general generally petty and mean. Don’t give her more money for being a disaster.
