Samuel L. Jackson as a one-man greek chorus playing the role of critics was a really clever addition.

Uncle Sam
Uncle Sam
I loved the way that he rapped, the way the talked, I love the way that he walked.
I saw a parody where it was the white version with Em as kendrick and Mgk as drake and it said
"Let me break it down to you this the real honkey challenge
You called Jack H when you didn't see the club
Mac miller helped you get your lingo up
Yelawolf gave you false street cred

Uncle Sam's performance was perfect. He was what the haters are saying. Kendrick is showing that he's playing his own game, and not following expectations.
I think it also represents america (obviously) ordering people ( especially black people in this instance) to settle down get in line. He kept telling kendrick to stop that nonsense and do calm quiet music and right after that not like us comes on

I feel like Samuel L Jackson was honestly one of my favorite parts of the performance. He really did a great job of bringing the vibe and message together. The "Great American Game" moments struck a cord...coupled with the great filmography and camera movements...Really heavy stuff
I loved the message behind Samuel L Jackson's role! His 'Uncle Sam' was exactly the reaction all the old white conservatives are having now. Calling hip hop (i.e. black culture) "too loud" and "too ghetto" and trying to get the performance to align with what white america wants black people to be like, but Kendrick was like nope!
Kendrick did a good job with him too, check out how pissed he gets when they are by the lamp post and he finishes the verse and uncle Sam comes through, as Kdot and the dancers walk off screen he gets like annoyed that he's approaching as they all get off the corner. Didn't notice That the first time but watched the upload and seen it, pretty funny.
@@Siegefya I haven't seen many Halftime shows, but the ones I have seen felt phony and over produced. This show was so much different, it told a story, it had a message, and it was very well executed. I don't know how Kendrick had the cardio to pull it off but he nailed it.
@@choronos he traveled so far pretty much went up and down the whole field it's pretty crazy. Whole time rapping into the mic and dancing. He says in interviews that he's a distance runner, would explain his really good cardio.
My headcanon is that the playstation motif of the production and the "game over" at the end is in reference to "First Person Shooter"(Drake ft JCole) being the start of the beef, and KDot is ending the game with this performance. Really bringing the whole beef full-circle.

Kendrick is just a genius at his craft. There's that famous story about how when Eminem wanted Kendrick on his song he tried to test him . When Kendrick came to Em studio he had a few friends with him and Em asked them to come with him outside of the booth to leave Kendrick alone to see if he could write a verse to a song That was out of his confort zone . I’m from Alabama (I know, I know, I hate it too) and all the negativity I’m seeing on Facebook is coming directly from racists, boomers, and deep-right wing people who refuse to enjoy anything that wasn’t directly created/stolen by the white man. I know those things generally kind of run together but still, you get my point. Anybody with a shred of anything up top enjoyed it and understood atleast some of the general messages being shown. Man, isn’t it crazy that the rest of the country is starting to feel kinda Alabama-y, as well? Am I crazy, am I the only one who thinks this?
It definitely feels like the country is shifting right culturally. Or at least that non-political, "shut my brain off" country music is taking as much of a cultural presence as hip hop. And I say that as someone who is not a default hater of all country music.
It seems like people are getting more comfortable saying racist shit. I still can't believe that there are grown ass adults saying that rap music isn't real music. I can't imagine any reason to say that other than racism.

@@ericdappen5893cope more cuckhold 😊
@ericdappen5893 What?! The Super Bowl doesn’t have a standard for greatness - you only see it as “great” because past artists followed a certain approach. But just because something has always been done a certain way is never a good reason enough to keep doing it. So long as it’s family-friendly, artists can present what best represents them.
A Kendrick fan would know he was never going to perform something that censors his message about Black culture - that’s the whole point of his entire discography. THANK YOU for mentioning the physicality of his performance! His breath control was practically super human.
My number one criticism is that while the performance was good, it would have been GREAT if Kendrick had a band.
Kendrick’s put on much better performances and a lot of that had to do with live instrumentation.
I hadn't thought of a band, but I did think there was a little something missing. It was a good performance for a concert, but something like the super bowl halftime show usually needs more spectacle and grandiosity. A band like the famous HBCU bands would've been perfect for adding that extra flair while still celebrating black culture.
I'm almost 100% sure he thought of stuff like that but they probably didn't let it him or it wouldn't work logistically. Look at how far he traveled through the performance, the dude probably covered more acres than any other performance, because it was his vision... The whole game controller and moving to different sections of the controller, where do you put a live band for all of that?
Edit, also apparently they wouldn't allow fireworks either. Seen a lot of people mentioned "no fireworks!".
Love the performance ngl. I wanted it to be a celebration of Kendrick career not just the drake beef. But it was a superb performance. Can't complain. This man went up there running and rapping and not giving a fuck about anything, can't help but love it
glad you mentioned how it was kinda odd having euphoria on the setlist. Loved it tho
I’m sick of everybody honestly
Thank you for talking about the show as a whole. I keep getting 'KDot Ends Drake!!!' YT slop in my feed, like Drake was the only thing that show was about. I didn't get it all right away either, but I appreciated it and continue to admire Kendrick as an artist!
❤️🤍💙Kendrick Lamar🗣️..."I WANNA PLAY THEY FAVORITE SONG BUT YOU KNOW THEY LOVE TO SUE" ANOTHER DISS TO DRAKE
i was half asleep then saw this notification and woke my ass up cause i gotta see melons thoughts on this
I wish his mic was louder but otherwise it was pretty amazing.
I find the NFL’s politics to be interesting here compared to when Colin K. Was in the league.
almost like protest can shift the overton window
It's performative, the NFLs only politics is to make money
Bro I remember when he did that, like he wore socks with pigs wearing police hats and donuts and people were so mad. I was in Highschool and kids (including me) were not standing up for the pledge and some kids would kneel during games and coaches would get so mad. It’s crazy, and don’t you think it’s a coincidence that anytime the 49ers would either make playoffs or get to
The superbowl after this they always seem to just miss the mark?
This halftime performance was amazing
Drakes crying rn
I wonder if kendrick would ever call out his best friends Dr Dre and Jay Z for having sexual relationships with a 14 year old and a 16 year old in their 20's. Wouldn't fit the narrative for him probably
The craziest thing of the whole show was when he brought Yuno Miles on to perform Not like us with him
"The red white and blue represented the American flag" duh goofies.
AND YOURE TELLING ME THAT THEY THEN PROCEEDED INTO THE FORMATION OF AN AMERICAN FLAG. The way they acted over this was hilarious.
They tried to say “it went over your heads” lol, they think their brain is superior.
I thought it was France :0
@@lookoutside8490 not at all, you just refuse to think about potential secondary or third meanings. nobody can catch all the entendres on the first watch. yall hating asses just refuse to watch it more than once
One thing I noticed in recent Superbowl performances, and I dont know if its an NFL post covid policy or an Apple music thing, but the past few shows don't include a crowd. With older performances, the artist could interact with the audience, the audience would be hype people, playing into the show. I think that really gave a dynamicism to the show that more recent half time performances dont have.
Anthoy's treating Kendrick like a donut with how much he glazing bro
7:30 I think the meaning behind it looking like a controller is Drake's song that started all of this, First person shooter
All the boomers are pissed. They hated it. They don't understand it. And I love it.
Great take, thank you Melon
Fantano wants to be forgiven for the center-right political takes he used to give so bad lmao
I absolutely loved it!!!
I got what I wanted and needed! I was so so happy he performed Euphoria and Peakaboo! I love those tracks!
Imo he did incredible
Rapping is not as easy as singing is. Very few fans can even rap along to Kendrick’s songs and for him to go 13 minutes straight singing in a minor was very very impressive. People don’t understand just how great his performance was. Plus he didn’t even care to go with his hits which is impressive in itself in how he sees himself as an artist. Peekaboo was one of the hated songs on the GNX album and he played that. LEGENDARY SHIT.
Fantano is such a glazer
5:25 crazy that Ben Shapiro had the most reasonable tweet. Some people just interpret every single thing that happens as an attack or win of their political view which is sad.
Alot of people see black and think Bad so no matter when even if he did rock music they would hate it
Sorry you got raped lil bro
Cheering for your recovery
