Being a licensed ham operator, it just doesn't make sense at all not to be able to transmit in the CB band, which doesn't require any license, and no call sign is needed. However, it makes sense not to allow CB users to transmit in the ham radio bands.
Hi Andy, we are allowed to transmit on the CB Bands just not with Radio Amateure equipment as it is not type approved (it transmits above 4 Watts and has variable frequencies)
I got my CB license in the '70s only to soon find out it was no longer necessary, still waiting on my refund from fcc.🤔🥱 I've had a 10 M export moded transceiver for 30+ years and have never once keyed up on 10 M one time! I just want a high-end radio. In addition, one of these would be far superior to my SW radio for LW, MW, and SW broadcasts as well as listening to hams, etc. Perhaps even prompt me to get the general license, which back in the day I would have already, if not for the code back then. I went up to 10 m today to listen to what was going on. All I heard was code stations and one contest. Seems like all the Hams were on 11 Meters🤣 Don't say no because they're talking about their QSOs on the Ham Bands, and running 100s if not KWs, not 12 Watts PEP. Most are great guys and fun to talk to and learn from. I digress; I think a lot of the Ham misfits that you guys won't talk to, QSY to CB +/- band to take out their animosities on us and or Dominate the Band, just saying. QSL/QRT 73/88
You can literally tape a small wire on that location and undo it when ever you want and you can even keep it at that location for firmware updates ect.. 73's N3WER
Could you please help me with something. I have been searching everywhere to see if the ftdx 10 has the VC tuner in it like ftdx 101D has. It is the VC-tuner that makes the 101D so fabulous and everybody wants it. They say the little brother 10 edition it’s also good at tuning in a station I cannot find any picture that shows the VC-tuner on the ftdx 10 Version. Do you know anything about this could you help me please
You know why the solder did not like to breach the gap, you put flux on it! The flux wants to make the solder flow better, so it's flowing better away from the gap :-)
They probably solder a zero ohm smd jumper across the point at an authorized service center. What this mod does not do is modify the low pass filter to work out of the normal amateur bands so you could be risking the health of the finals.
I was looking at the optional TX full coverage of the FTdx10 on a major uk ham radio store and they put this warning on , are they saying using this mod can damage the radio? "NOTE: Transmission outside of designated Ham/ WARC Bands applies additional stress on bandpass filters & P.A. Components may fail if operated at high power for sustained periods. We reserve the right in extreme circumstances to charge for P.A. repairs"
Mike Is there 'no' Averaging on the scope that can be adjusted to slow it all down, watching the scope when your not used to that seems really intense and feels like it could be a problem for me
What are the experiences with the wideband mod, e.g. on 40 MHz and 60 MHz (which are permitted bands in several countries EI/LY/S5/ZS)? Can anyone share experience and / or measurements?
I like this mod cause it allows you to transmit on airband as well as military (I know it’s illegal to transmit on both) I plan on getting someone to do it on my Kenwood ts 890s
does that mod loose you any features because on the FT-857D after the mod you lost the ability of the radio being able to auto tune repeaters think the function iwas called something like 144 ARP and 433 ARP
I bought a used FT897 recently that has been WB'd. My FT891 also came WB'd from new, even though I didn't specifically ask for it. Both radios can transmit as clean "out of band" as they can in the recognised Ham bands so I don't believe WB'ing harms them in any way. If it did it wouldn't be so easy to do, there are other ways a radio could be permanently locked down. Personally, I'm not really that interested in CB so I've no use for WB transmit capability and certainly wouldn't pay to have it done.
Mike good vid this one and really like your channel. Any chance of a new title however its a bit "dark" and i always think its a horror movie about to start lol......
Why not use a 0 ohm resistor instead of the glob of solder. And why not clean the flux off the board when done? Makes a much more professional looking mod.
many thanks for your post, in reply this was for demo purposes only, the solder blob was removed and the pads cleaned with iso and then resealed. but you are right, should have, could have.
Frankly: I'd prefer these manufacturers provide such as 4Khz or more, and leave the tx filter end points to the customer. FCC has no rules limiting bandwidth other than 'avoid adjacent channel interence'. So ...how come the 'ah...no sir! We do 'me too' 3khz.' I suspect its called 'me too'.aH...DID I SAY 'ME TOO'??
I have looked in to this as it does seem odd, however all though the US has no rules on bandwidth, that is not the case for other territories and as our radio manufacturers supply the world they have sided with the majority. Cheers Dave.
Both of these radios can do 4k IIRC. I wish 10m had channels 10k apart just like 11 meters does. People starting a QSO 3khz away from my current QSO is very annoying.
bla bla bla. who will see it and it would have to be a SMD 0 ohm resistor the two contact points are already almost touching each other. might as well just use a very small piece of copper wire.
HAHAHA I laugh at all of you. The Icom 718 comes wide banded already but no one listens to me. A tough industrial radio made for HAM bands and no one looks at it because it's so cheap. Your loss. Told you so.
Im fairly certain Mike is free to post whatever he likes. A radio amature fiddling with the insides of a radio whilst recommending you 'dont do this at home kids' is pretty solid content for a You Tube video! Would I ever do this particular mod? No. Still watching though because its interesting. Would I continue to do something i was concerned about doing? As often as i possibly could! Great video Mike
Hi sramsdellwdm, I am happy for you, as you see everything as black or white. I would rather someone did not mod and damage their radio, but if one is going to play inside their kit regardless of what I say, surely it is better to help, then too let them blindly attack.
Hi,good video well explained, got my Icom ic-7300 modified 2 years ago ,great on the cb frequencies, thanks from Rotterdam 👍

It would be nice if it was legal if you used the proper wattage. Most amateurs can tell how many watts theyre using
@@j0llyroger889 100% true. For QSO's it's 11m. Amatuer bands for FT8 which I also enjoy .

you hams are so daring, a bunch of renegades, with your beards and tea mugs

There should be a sign on the inner shield, "Now, are you SURE you want to be here?"

Too true, The radio is now back to factory fresh.
No issues had it done a while. FTDX-10 work amazingly good

I think you will find that if you do this MOD, you will have voided the warranty and as a result will be charged for any repairs.
Mike Is there 'no' Averaging on the scope that can be adjusted to slow it all down, watching the scope when your not used to that seems really intense and feels like it could be a problem for me
Yes you can slow the scope and reduce the gain....
Is there a difference in the TX bands when using this method, vs the short the pin MARS mod?
Your screwdriver skills are getting better :-)
Cheers Chris, as is your wit. LOL
What are the experiences with the wideband mod, e.g. on 40 MHz and 60 MHz (which are permitted bands in several countries EI/LY/S5/ZS)? Can anyone share experience and / or measurements?
hello, thanks, what is hte total TX range of the FT DX10 after mods is done? BEcause Ineed 28 to 32MHZ for transverterto works??
I will have to check that, but I believe it work for you.
So just short it temporarily while doing reset and after remove the short and it will still transmit on 11 meters?
yep
Has anyone ever tried to tx on 472 khz? That would be sweet if this did 630 meters.
Mike good day, is this also applicable to 40 meters on the ftdx10? Thank you.
If you are going to do this, use a circuit writer pen. Remember to let it dry for about 30 minutes before trying.
Hi Mike......where is Part 2???
Yes must get around to that.😂😂
I like this mod cause it allows you to transmit on airband as well as military (I know it’s illegal to transmit on both) I plan on getting someone to do it on my Kenwood ts 890s
ah No it doesn't the mod only opens up the extended TX on HF bands not VHF and defo not the air bands / Military ..
@@mike-M0MSN it does tho

Have you uploaded a review of the FTDX10 at all Mike?
Not yet John, did you want me to do one?

Hi Mike, great vid, as always. Quick question here, do you think that the temporary reset while shorting could also work on a FT991A ?
Yes it does, but the job is made very hard by the location of the jumpers.
What you getting yourself into, lil guy?
Mike good vid this one and really like your channel. Any chance of a new title however its a bit "dark" and i always think its a horror movie about to start lol......
Boo....
What about the filters? Won't it reduce the Rx? Will transmit through filters cause damage over time
no, the rx/tx is capable of these adjustments
Nice one, but the price will just have gone through the roof!!!! :-((
Mike, I'm interested to know whether or not you returned the radio back to factory status or you kept the mod in line?
I returned it back to factory.
I did not see this. I have no idea what you are talking about. ;) 73 Joe
lol
I will stick with my Ts130s I can use a hammer and chisel on that for mods lol very enjoyable post especially when you should not attempt it
LOL
Will it transmit on all frequencies or just 11 meters?
All freq ( its not a good idea but all)
@@gabrielsansar6187 that's below 6 meters

Who is going to see it when the cover is back on, It is working mod done.
If you need to remove this mod is it just to remove solder from the solder pads and do a reset to put transceiver back to normal ?
Yep, de-solder and reset. :)

I will try the MOD and let you know.
