      Thanks for the kind words, Elizabeth! Good to be back 😀 Patriot is doing well and still kicking, sassy as always, but we did go through a very long trial with all this. I just hope the video series is helpful. I'm trying to fit absolutely everything I know about fin rot in there. Hope you and the family are safe and well! 🙏

    I used endomycin and it didn’t work unfortunately , but then I used some Maracyn 2 and now Blue is healing and all the fungus is gone! Went through over $80 worth of treatments but it was worth it.

      Kevin - sometimes it is a lot of trial and error. Maracyn 2 was a good call...great for gram negative bacteria, which fin rot is most of the time. Definitely worth the time and money if it heals your guy. Congratulations!!

    Sadly my Betta Thor is now in Valhalla, but his two boys are doing fine :)

      Colin - sorry to hear!! I loved Thor! Beautiful betta. I'm sure he is loving it up in Valhalla, and glad to hear his two boys are doing fine. You gave Thor a great life, though, and a fantastic home. Sadly our bettas only give us 4 or 5 years, but we can only make them the best 4 or 5 years possible. Hope you are well and staying safe, my friend!

    Nice to see you back and good to hear you have work/job during these times.
    Do you feel too much meds can hurt the immune system of fishes and prevent the healing from occurring?
    I have been trying to use a more natural/holistic treatment (salt, water changes) of my fishes in the last few years and
    resort to meds if this fails.
    Looking forward to your next video.

      Thanks for the kind words!! Glad the videos are helpful! Patriot is alive, well and kicking (swimming) 😊 You'll see in the next video, we were finally able to put the breaks on the fin rot....but because of his age and how aggressive this case of fin rot was, he did lose a lot of his fins. He is very slowly regenerating them tiny bit by tiny bit...but chronic fin rot can be an issue with older bettas. Little guy is tough though. Sassy little trooper 😊

    I know this is an older video but I am in Canada and here we have zero access to any type of aquarium medication.
    My Betta Toby has developed fin rot which is progressing quite rapidly, so my only option is aquarium salt. I’m doses the tank with 1 Tablespoon per 2 Gallon’s.
    I am just wondering when dealing with Fin Rot and treating with salt, should I be doing 50% water change every day and re dosing with salt for the amount taken out? Or should I be doing my weekly water change like I normally do?

    I’ve heard you are NOT supposed to feed while treating and so thats probably why the api packets didn’t work. (I’m not sure how to spell it)

    • @dmichaelsfishden
      @dmichaelsfishden  3 года назад +2

      Hi Beepo - I'm not sure where you may have heard that, but unfortunately, someone gave you some bad advice there. Sorry they mislead you. If the fish will eat while you are medicating them, you should absolutely feed them. Lack of food will stress them further, further weakening their immune systems, making them more susceptible to the particular disease they are fighting. Food will also keep providing them the necessary vitamins and strength they need to help fight the disease. In this case, the Erythromycin (the API packets) likely didn't work because either the bacteria was gram-negative (Erythromycin gets some gram negative bacteria, but targets mostly gram positive) or the bacteria could have been resistant to it. I've medicated fish many times and always feed them well so they can keep their strength up to help fight the disease. Hope that helps!

    • @dmichaelsfishden
      @dmichaelsfishden  3 года назад +1

      @@beepovews4392 respectfully, I would still strongly disagree. I can only share my experience and what breeders have shared with me in the past, but I have always fed my fish very well while medicating (if they are eating) to keep their strength up and stress level down. Otherwise, if you starve them, it heightens their stress and further weakens their immune system, making diseases even worse. They need as much strength as they can to fight diseases. Doesn’t mean they will always eat when sick, sometimes they won’t - if they aren’t accepting food, then we don’t want to feed because it will lower water quality. But, if they are accepting food, I always feed as well as I can. In the past I have noticed my fish recover much faster while medicating when I kept feeding high quality foods......In addition, if we weren’t supposed to feed while medicating, medicated foods wouldn’t exist and those can work very well in certain cases of internal infections. Just more food for thought and hope all that is helpful to you in the future.

      I just put salt in my tank for my Beta. It is bad so I used the 1 tbsp for 1 gallon method. How long should I let the salt sit before I change the water?
