Yes, 2015 build is here...electronics and software will appear on there too. Im still working on the site at the moment. www.geekzoneuk.com/robotics/r2-d2/
Do you think this sort of software (not exactly the one you made, but another version) would work well on a Raspberry Pi? As the Pi is a relatively small, low powered computer, it should work quite well in that sort of project, one would think.
It could read the IR outputs and perform some basic processing and send the data wireless to a PC (if you needed it) but then what? it could steer etc but ultimately any navigation needs to be part of some master plan else the robot would have no purpose. Some like the interactive one have a "patrol mode" where they just go around avoiding things; that could be dome with a PI or Arduino easy enough. Hope this helps. I will be revisiting this in 2015 for a more sophisticated version and finally uploading it for a free download.
jblackmore2003 I was thinking of doing a part autonomous/static part remote controlled one (one day) that could also act as a sentry for detecting motion and sound. The autonomous side of it would be it's primary function, to be able to wander about, missing objects and people. I was only thinking of the Pi because of the size and power requirements. I look forward to seeing your future updates. Should be fun!! :)
A really nice little fellow! And a very neat and nice interface :) I have my own plans for a building an R2 unit so I would be very grateful if you would share your fancy control program? Regards, Stefan! PS. Tried to send a message through the "e-mails" but has not received a response.
