We are starting IEW with my daughter this Fall too! She’s starting 2nd grade, but fairly advanced. I’m also going to be watching the teacher videos.

Did you know there are some amazing movies about Sarah, Plain, and Tall as well? They are clean as much as I remember, and I do not know how they match up against the books but totally recommend them! Thank you for your videos. They are super helpful to this homeschool Mama!

Yay!! I've been looking forward to this one!! My oldest will also be in 5th grade next year, and you're so right, 5th grade does feel so much bigger. 🥲 love your videos, your video about your cleaning routine has helped me so much. My 4th is 3 months old, and the routine helps so much! You're such a blessing!! 🥰

As a mom that just came out of 5th grade with my oldest. I thought that one was hard just because I knew we were moving on to middle school the follow year (no more elementary school, why is that so hard to accept). I do love your selections it is funny how much is the same for our homeschool. I will have a 4th and 6th grades and we are using Sonlight, LOE, IEW, and Saxon. The only other thing we have is the Critical Thinking Word Roots for beginners.
Great video and I cant wait to see what you selected for your other kiddos!

Oh, this is SO fun!! It sounds like it’s going to be a wonderful year!!!
My oldest is going into 5th grade too and it just sounds so old!! 😭
I wanted to mention that all of the Hazardous Tales series by Nathan Hale are about US history, so if he likes the Alamo one, there’s a bunch of others!! My 10yo LOVES them!!! Also, you may want to consider reading Blood on the River aloud- it’s just SO good!!! We read it out from BYL5 and it was awesome paired with the Nat Geo 1607 book!!!
I’m just so excited to follow along!! I always love your videos!! Your excitement and passion is contagious!! 🥰🥰🥰

The readers for 5th grade this year look so good! I would want to get them by themselves, is that an option?
(Sorry to reply to your comment, RUclips isn't letting me make my own!)

I like the idea of pairing Blood of the River with the 1607 book - I just might move it to a read aloud, thank you!!

Yes, you can definitely purchase just the readers!! Just make sure you look for Level D readers not Grade 5 readers - those are two different sets!

My rising 7th grader did IEW SS 1A for the end of 5th and finished near the end of 6th. Because some of the videos are lengthy we allowed him to take 2 weeks per lesso. For most if that time. He's advanced in reading, more average in writing but learned so much. Planning to do a theme based US History this year alongside our Somligjt D & E. Being flexible is a great idea....have a wonderful year!
