Takk fyrir Ingi! I know I have been bugging you for a long time to have subtitles or speak English but I appreciate it is ‘unnatural’ for an Icelandic person so I am grateful for this video and hope many more will follow!

Thanks for the video! This explains the route to Landmannalaugar so we’ll and eases my mind about the river crossings since we will be doing this route in a few weeks! I do have one question, if we also intend to see Maelifell can we access it continuing the route from Landmannalaugar using F208-F233 without high river crossings in a Subaru Forester? Or is it better to go from route 1 using 210 and F210 to get there?

Thank you for kind words, i´m so glad I can help!
Mælifell can be tricky, yes i´ve seen car similar to Forester there but you have to look out for the weather and even if the road is open. Today you cant stop at Mælifell do to so much water, the car will get stuck there if you stop!
www.vegagerdin.is/ferdaupplysingar/faerd-og-vedur/sudurland-faerd-kort/ tells you if the road is open
F210 has been closed from Hvolsvöllur but you can go Öldufellsleið (F232) - cross one beautyful river with ease and then keep going, turn onto Fjallabak Syðri F210 and visit Mælifell.
But beware the road F232 can be horrible on some parts, rocks and even in two parts or more.
      Just go slow and steady.
      From Landmannalaugar in this order:
      Fjallabak Nyðra (F208)
      Öldufellsleið (F232)
      Fjallabak Syðra (F210)
This is the safest way to Mælifell
