Loving this tutorials Simon. Being familiar on vfx but not so much in Houdini, allow me to discover the names of different elements and workflows in houdini. Also that its not heavy on vex, make it way easy to follow. Thanks a lot!
@simon houdini - can you add a link for the quixel megascan files you used so I can try replicating exactly what you did for continuity, and then re-create my own version after learning the process? One thing I got stuck on, just for others, @4:48 if you get an error message for your second UVProject it is because you need to turn on "visualize damage" in the edge damage node. I'm not sure why we are using the green color as opposed to the red color, but that's my lack of VEX knowledge.
I usually cringe at the excessive complimenting in the yt comments for Houdini tutorials, but this one is indeed very good and deserves them. Excellent stuff. Would love to see a Houdini - Unreal urban environment tutorial. Maybe a house or something, where UV's/Textures are all set up ready for Unreal materials.
Hi ... thank you for this tutorial! It would also be great to get a tutorial about the way IN unreal engine to produce the blueprint u have used for the "trigger action", while shooting. exactly that is my problem ... but thank you again for your great channel!
3:00 How are you having the view port switch from View to Labs Edge Damage ...? Mine just stays at 'View' regardless of the node selected. Alos what is the short cut youre using to pop up the UV editor at 3:15...? When making screen grab recordings be useful if you can have key presses enable too so we can see what shortcuts youre using... thanks
Houdini has become more approachable, with more tutorials and information. If you are new to Houdini and never used It, I would recommend more beginner videos. Yes, this can work in Unity
Yes, you would have to make the right decision on what to use for a project. If you need a lot of destructions and complex setups vertex animation can be interesting to use.
yeah same issue here, it seems to come from the detailing in the rdb material fracture , simpling disabling the edge detail seem to work , I think thats what he does at 11:12
This is one of the most well paced, content filled tutorials I’ve seen in a while. Good work!
one of the coolest things about you Simon is, when you see something interesting you try to recreate it. awesome content man.
Simon, this is an absolutely amazing tutorial! It is right at the sweet spot for my Houdini skill level. Thank you.

Can the chunks for the pillar interact with physics objects in unreal once the animation is done?
thanks for Tutorial
3:00 How are you having the view port switch from View to Labs Edge Damage ...? Mine just stays at 'View' regardless of the node selected. Alos what is the short cut youre using to pop up the UV editor at 3:15...? in the top right corner of your viewport where it says "persp", switch that to "UV view"
@@wolfsch thanks!
This is great, do you have a Houdini course? If not, can you recommend a Houdini course?
Great tutorial! My autoUV keeps cooking everytime I click anything. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
How would you destroy the fractured parts at the end of the simulation so you don't have a bunch of debris in your game scene indefinitely in unreal?
when I get fbx from houdini, no animation on unreal(only 5.1)
Nuevo sub - Genial !!!!
thx a lot!!
Hi Simon, great tutorial! When i import the fbx to unreal 4.27 i can t set up the skeletal mesh option. Can you help me please? thank you
So, I have sidefx labs installed and there are quite a few labs nodes but edge damage is not there.
Can the particles be turned into a nanite mesh so you can have unlimited destruction in a game?
how do you add the parameter panal please in your nodal window ?
Why is Houdini so hard to learn? Should I beginner look at this or should this beginner elsewhere? Can all of this also work in the Unity engine?

Yes, this can work in Unity
I installed Labs but I don't have the edge damage, Auto UV, or the UV project tools. Are they not in Apprentice version?
Just wanna say, never mind, was in the wrong mode and didn't realize it.
grate
Isn’t this bone animation? Better than using vat? Bone animation would reach a limit pretty fast no?

@@simonhoudini5074 thanks! love ur work, it help me every day
at 6:50 what is the keyboard shortcut for make the node line to be like that.
Shift+S to curve the lines
Hi, i Couldn't Follow Your Tutorial, Just So You Know.
what if I have pieces that are sticking on and not falling after I put the bulletsolver on? What would I adjust to make sure all the pieces come off.
yeah same issue here, it seems to come from the detailing in the rdb material fracture , simpling disabling the edge detail seem to work , I think thats what he does at 11:12
@@gillesdillenseger6472 Ya that seems to work. Thanks
@@gillesdillenseger6472 same issue here, but when i disable the edge detail,it did not work for me,also have one piece(just one piece!!) sticking on🤣
very nice tutorial man, but I feel like I really need to chew a lot of the basics before being able to follow you.
Houdini should be called Nightmare software LOL
Max users blender users and Maya users are u guys watching
Does this technique work in 4.26?
This does work but my pieces jitter sometimes anyone know why?
how about destroy it to the ground not just stand still the half of that
I Dont have edge damge,I have labs。
i met same situation ):
I guess it is houdini minimum version 18.5, I have 18.0.597 and no Labs node ! Try MOUNTAIN node !
Maybe a Unity version, yo? :D :D :D
You should be able to open the fbx file with the animation with no problems.
Great tutorial, but your swallowing is unbearable lol
