- When The Beatles split and they all began releasing solo recordings, drummer Ringo was not to be left out! Admittedly, this one features George Harrison on backing vocals and guitar. Although George and Ringo collaborated on quite a few compositions, this one is the only release to officially show them as co-writers. It made #8 in the UK charts back in 1973 and topped the charts in the USA, Canada and Australia.
Today is September 8 of 2022. A few hours ago, I learned of the sudden death of Queen Elizabeth II. You know I'm not British, Victor, but I've been very sorry about this news, and I suppose you have too, as she's been head of state since you were a boy. I send you my condolences. I know for many Brits, she was part of their family.
This beautiful song by Ringo has a nostalgic lyrics, but the melody is happy. It is an advantage of those of us who love songs in English before speaking the language: when you finally understand them, it's like rediscovering them, sometimes they disappoint you but many others they become even bigger, like this one.
A strong hug, dear friend.😀
A beautiful comment, Jan and a fitting tribute. We have lost s great monarch who was dedicated to her role as leader of the Commonwealth. Ech of us will have our own treasured photographic memories of this lovely lady.

I used yellow hearts
As I KNOW you like the colour.
To relax and always wanted a yellow bedroom. I guess you've got one now! 💛💚💛
I am sorry that she passed also, I knew of her all of my life. We sometimes forget that people are growing older just as we did. I am losing people faster at 65 than other time in my life and it is hard. For me, I remind myself that she lived a good long life and will be remembered forever here on earth. God Bless her and her family.
❤
My wife died In 2000 and all these yrs later I still miss her and because of unfortunate facts of life that have transpired since her death I don't even have a photograph of her Ringo but you keep her alive for me I can see her when I listen to your song thank you Ringo from the bottom of my heart
Nice comment, my friend. Thanks for editing out all the offensive words. Have a good weekend!
Hugggs, I don't have a photograph either, just one thing that my friend gave to me in life, a card.
❤️😢❤️
Me too -lost my beautiful wife and this hits home
Lost my husband in 2001. He was 37. I have only one photo . Still hurts..
Most people in this world can relate to this song and the memory of someone they loved so much....Thank you Ringo for writing this song....we have to get to a certain age to finally know what the message of this song means.
The song made me misty eyed when I first heard it in 1973. It still does and if anything time has given it even deeper meaning.
My Sisters Celebration of Life was this past weekend. Driving home from CA this song came on and it just hit me. I loved it back in 73 too but it definitely has more meaning even now.
Well said.
Miss you Mikel Whitt
My mom, dad and brother who was younger than me.
My daughter left and all I have is a photograph of her. It reminds me of the places we used to go. I love you.
@@FrancisNStein Thanks David . God Bless you. It's painful you know that. The minute I forgave for the pain and asked for forgiveness for the pain I caused, Love came through. Lead with Love. Lead with Love!
George Harrison wrote it for Ringo . Rip George ❤️🙏😢
Yeah.. me too
For Starr.. I love you.. Daddy
Me too
Written by George Harrison & given to Ringo Starr. George is playing the guitar & singing backing vocals on it.
How can you not love Ringo!! ❤
Lost my Mom in 2013. My Wife in 2014, and all of the rest in the last two to three years. Nothing to fill up the holes in us but memories and photographs....
I just lost my wife and this song said it all.
Bill Schipper hang in there , I lost my wife 10 years ago & sometimes it feels like yesterday . Songs like this speak the words of your broken heart , that’s why I’m here too .
I am so sorry. Blessed Be
My thanks to Ringo and each of the Beatles for the joy, memories, and happiness they have brought to millions of us over the years.
Thank you for a wonderful song, It brings back memories of grade school 1970-1975
His voice expresses the meaning of this song so well. Such a sad song and very beautiful.
i can't get tired hearing this song :)
Ringo has aged remarkably well. Even "photographs" taken around his 80th birthday He looks to be about 50. Love the song and I for one miss George.
:)
2022 and still loving this beautiful song, Ringo is also a genius
Agreed - by no means the "least" of The Beatles.
The most by far underrated Beatle, more talented than John Lennon in my book.
When music was music with a meaning
Genius? He did not write this song
@albertodf1234 I agree 100%, i love all the Beatles and to say Ringo is not among them would be an understatement! I still miss George & John but at least we still have Paul & Ringo! Bless them more with years to entertain us
Happy 50th anniversary to this song, it was released right around this time in 1973! (It’s early November 2023 as I post this comment.) May this song live on for another 50 years!!!
I lost my husband of 36 years in 2011, I love this song and the way you sing it Ringo. Thank you, it does say it all.
I loved this song growing up and still do! Besides, I was born the same year it was released.
Ringo was my favourite Beatle, the "every man" in the group. That's why I love this, it just hits the "feels" in the right spot.
Lovely comment, Graeme - thanks!
I bought this 45 in 1973. Aged 12. I loved it then, and it still brings me to tears today!
I lost my younger sister too soon and we played this at her funeral, the words are so true, we have the lyrics typed out under her photograph.
So very sorry for the loss of your sister. God bless you 🙏 Prayers coming your way 🙏
All I have are photos of my son, he died two years ago this month. 39 forever, I still cry every morning because I have one second I don't remember then I do and it hits like a brick wall! My sweet Adam, your son is a fine young man and has a job now, doing great in school. I see you when I look at his face. :(
Beautiful song, poignant lyrics, thank you Ringo. ❤
George wrote it.
This is the best song Ringo ever recorded when he went on is own
Happy 80th Ringo! You make 80 look damn good!!
One of the best post Beatles songs ever. Just saw Ringo's All Stars in Oct 2022- honestly, best show all year. If I saw Ringo downtown, I'd say 45, not 83!!! Hot damn, what a band. BEATLES 4EVER. and EVER.
My wife of 42 years passed in August. We were fortunate to be able to grow old together. Listening to music like this is like taking medicine. Tough to take but good for you in the long run.
Just enjoy the memories, James!
God bless you. That has to hurt.
James:
My wife of 20 years passed away in July of 2018. I feel your pain. It took awhile, but after hearing this song, I realized, she's not coming back anymore... 😢.
@@02c24win1 I had thought of this as a breakup song, but not anymore.

I know, I did too! But it fits
after losing a loved one. 👍
A love lost .....the heart never really heals ❤❤
Sad - but true.
The heart may not fully "heal" after a lost love, but hopefully sadness turns into occasional smiles and perhaps even a laugh when good, fun, sweet and loving memories come to mind. 💗💗 I even smile when I see a favorite bird that my lost love used to watch out the window.
Just an amazing song - that melody just sucks me in! One of the best songs Ringo ever wrote! (With a bit of help from George). HUGE hit here. Tiger.
60 views and no "dislikes" yet - that says something about our Ringo. See you after my hols!
This song is in my top 10 songs of all time. Absolutely love it.
There’s something about sad lyrics set to upbeat melodies that just- HITS different
What a brilliant song I used to play this song before I got married and had my children it brings back such good memories thanks so much.
Always a pleasure, Diane. I am a huge Beatles fan (from first time around).
Miss all by old friends in Germany during the 80's
Top Song Victor...The Beatle That Cant Sing...Well He Sounds Great To Me Love Ringo!..Cheers!
... and he was an inspired to choice to narrate the Thomas the Tank Engine stories too! Ready for a scorching weekend?
What???????? He is a GREAT singer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They wrote a song for his limited range on every album. Most of them were top ten hits. George wrote this one almost exclusively. Check out the demo version with George singing.
@@sunryse111 Anyone notice how this song of longing sounds so triumphant? It sounds more like a hero's anthem than a ''cry in your beer'' song.
Just the words to feel the meaning of the song
It is a universal song. Way to go Ringo. We all live in a yellow submarine.
I’ve heard this song since I was a child. I’m 55 now and never listened to the lyrics.
Funny how strong these words hit as we get older.
thank you Ringo. beautiful song
Ringo's third number one song and his best vocal performance
The music and lyrics from the song photograph was composed by George Harrison and some of the lyrics is from Ringo but the song is of Harrison ideas !!!
I realized you're not coming back anymore because of my PTSD dissociation episodes and tourette episodes and I love you
I realize that no matter what I did good for anyone and how much I love you and how much I been in pain my whole life and how disabled and stupid and autistic i am, no one is ever coming back to me about love for me because u am a disabled woman with PTSD dissociation episodes and tourette episodes and i am a disabled total failure and a empath woman and a total loser. I been clueless and I was happy for everyone else and i don't remember what happened in my life for reasons of PTSD DISOCIATION episodes and the car accident and the medications . I have been in pain my whole life and my mom was correct about the Owie and no one would ever understand. I didn't know until this year how often I am in a DISOCIATION episode and I think I have been very blessed with a miracle and that's why I shared my praise report and I love you so much and miss you family and I am sorry for leaving comments and being so stupid to think about being loved by anyone. I really am that stupid.
A photograph can be so much more than a picture!! So mañy memories!!
Its Christmas Eve 2021 and this song has been 'stuck' in my head all day . Merry Christmas to all of my family and friends in Heaven. You are all missed every day 💜🎄
It could be worse, GS. It's a great song to have stuck in your head.
Brilliant song which could only come from the mastermind musicians of the Beatles. (The Beatles song will last on for ever)
You're right.
Magnificent song!! You're so great Ringo. Love ya❤😊
My friends Golden Retriever recently passed. She had to put him down. To ill and old.
"But all i got is a photograph And i realize you're not coming back anymore."
I was thinking this song today in relation to my deceased pets 😢😢😢
I know how you feel. I lost my pet cat, 18 years ago, or 19 years ago. I don't have a photograph of him, but I have memories of him. Now, my surviving best friend, and my surviving best friend's 4 daughters own my late cat's granddaughter, and 4 great- granddaughters.
It's funny, every time I hear this song, I never think about any of my ex's, all I can think about is my black lab I had for ten years that I lost three years ago.
Lost my Golden Bailey. This song hits home.
I heard this playing in a store. No idea who it was or anything. I searched until I found it! Thanks RUclips!
Glad you found it on my channel! Cheers!
@@sunryse111 😂 and cheers 2 you!
Reminiscing the beautiful moment, long ago with this nice song😢
I remember hearing this song for the first time, early one warm morning in May, 1974, in General Santos City, from a big old jukebox, in the dirt, under a corrugated iron roof shelter, while waiting to take off on an old Philippine Airways DC 3 plane for Davao City, before flying on to Manila, and Jakarta, having a coffee before boarding. The song has a haunting melody, which just makes you listen to it again and again. I was enroute home to Canada after some months as a volunteer English teacher in Majunga, Madagascar, having island hopped since February, from Réunion, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Bangkok, Malaysia, Pulau Penang, Singapore, Java, Bali, Luzon, Cebú, on to HongKong, Taiwan, Okinawa, Guam, Hawaii, ... then, home to Canada in June, 1974...at age 30!
Every one of those places somewhere I have never been!
Not normally a Beatles fan, however, when I heard the song at the end of 'KOKO: 'the red dog story' I'd forgotten how great this song is! Well done and thanks RINGO! Absolutely beautiful song that obviously has so many memories for so many people ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Just about all the words you want to say to all the special people who really touched you back in those days..i love them all. Wonderful memories
Ringo. Thank you so much for all your music.
I hola come soon to Mexico city.
God Bless you Always
I purchased this 45 when released in 1973 - it cost about 1hr's worth of babysitting! Love it still.
Nice little memory, Maria - thanks for sharing it.
All four of the fab four were immensely talented.
No wonder they took the music scene by storm and were so dominant for so long. Like this song a lot. A very nice sentiment and melody.
Very true!
The arrangement is fantastic! Especially the violins at the end.
Without a doubt, a really great, great song!
The flood of sounds from the various instruments is fascinating, overwhelming the listener, and wonderful!
Greetings from 🇯🇵Japan
Love this song
This song is so universally applicable.
This song reminds me of my fiance that passed away in 2013 right before Thanksgiving ..I'm glad I have photographs and memories !!
Great song-love all of the Beatles😊👍
Always one of my favorites.
Surely can't live without George Harrison
what a great album this was, those were the days, and three beatles on one other track!
Yes - despite a lot of disagreements at the time, the bonds were always there.
For you Smitty
Beautiful
wow..!!!! I love it
This song reminds me of my brother, Chad. He was a sweetheart, hard worker, and a stud kind of guy. I am glad we walked the earth together at least for as long as we got.
Such a classic!!! 👏🏻❤️👍🏻
Definitely!
Imagine feelings like this ❤✨
OH MAN, I LOVE THIS LYRICS
My Sandy left me three years ago and i'm still missing her. And yes, i got a thousand photographs of us together, when everything seemed to be ok. But I can't see any of those photos anymore because they me make feel so sad and lonely without my Sandy. I will always love her with all of my heart.
That is the "downside" of photographs, for sure!

I'm from Liverpool, living in Melbourne. I lost 2 brothers in 3 weeks. Went to the funeral of Rod yesterday. He knew the Beatles from the Cavern., he sold tickets for their Saturday night dances, for Bob Wooler, the cavern DJ.This song has been going through my head all night. Busted down and wept. Thinking of my son's father who overdosed. As a photographer, I have voluminous photo's. Just sad memories now. The memorial on top of a mountain is july 29th. It's no celebration of life. He had a sad life due to poor choices. He missed his son's wedding and meeting his grandson. It makes me mad and sad. He blew it. Filled with self loathing he went down the path of self destruction.
An awful chapter in your life, Doris. Thank you for sharing those personal memories.
Thank you. This to shall pass
It is so sad...Ringo lost so many people in his life.
True, Katia - but so many of us have lost dear loved ones too.
You wouldn't believe it,when you hear him drumming, but ringo actually is a musician. And a good one too. Who would have thought,...
John Lennon thought so ...
@@sunryse111 there is a good chance, that John Lennon was smarter than i am. He was a genious, i can't even spell it.

I love this tune❤ P.AH.heard this on pick of the pops today 8/6/24
Written & sung in '73, felt poignantly bc of the Beatles' breakup...in '75, bc of his divorce from Mo.
When he married Barbara Bach, they resolved not to part from one another if at all possible, and they have kept this promise.
I never thought Ringo would be such a talented musician for being 80 still sounds like he's 24
