Ethan gave me a Fenwick rod with a Pfluger president reel last year during my first Ice season. I like it a ton and mostly used that all season. Looking to expand my horizons and try out more rods and reels, but need help with lures and how to fish them so yall should totally make that video haha. Thanks for all the info guys I appreciate it!
Tickle stick 27" UL with inline real. Most of my fishing is pan fish in depths 8 to 25 ft. Use 4lb monofilament and tungsten jig. Jig should have a minimum size 10 or 8 hooks. Metric sizes 4 to 5mm. Prefer a bigger gap for plastics. Usually use local bait manufacturer called BCBaits plastics. A plastic called the Teddy or Stinger and then add a magot or two. Rod has great sensitivity. Caught panfish, smallmouth , catfish, and walleye on it. But nothing bigger than 15"...yet.
You guys are the first I’ve heard to use smaller rods. Me personally I can’t stand anything below 24 inches. I have that 23 UL tickle stick and I only use it in my shack. Most of my rods are 30-34 inches. My go to panfish rod is a 30” noodle rod from Elliot rods. It might be because I’m a taller bigger person so the 30 inch range feels more natural to me
All depends on where you are fishing. If you are in a shanty with limited space. Go with a shorter rod. But if you have the space. Go with the longer rod. I have room in my 3i eskimo. So I like having 28+ for pan fish. 32-42" for walleye/pike/lakers. The longer rods help fighting fish.
I've been wondering why I haven't seen a video from you guys in a while and some how my notification bell got turned off but luckily I saw this video and got it turned back on. Glad to see your all doing good. Keep up the awesome videos
Funny, I was out this afternoon looking at ice fishing rods and reels trying to figure out what to go with, this video came out at the perfect time! I would love to see a lure video too, I plan on hitting the hard water a whole lot more this year and want to do more than just set up tip-ups and stand around all afternoon!
I was debating between the 23 and 27 inch UL Tickle Sticks. I called 13 fishing for advice. The 13 guy made a point.. a rod is a lever. Shorter levers offer more fighting power. I went with a 23" for my super hard fighting blue gills... Gotta watch that wrist strain.
Much needed video! I still can't decide if I'm gonna get into the hard water stuff this year but this is some good info for when someone like me does. Thanks fellas!
Perfect timing since I'm looking to start ice fishing this year and getting ready to buy a couple rods. Now wee need to see you on lures and jigs. And if you are planning a trip out for steelhead fishing let me know when you're going and I'd like to meet up and say hello while out on the river
@@aaanglers I make the 3 hr drive there to fish for 4-5 hrs and then drive back here to the Eastside. I try to get over to the Manistee at least once a month. Sometimes I venture out to others just depends on whether or not anyone else is going.
Thanks for the setup review. Would definitely like to see you both discuss some lures. New to ice fishing and only used live bait before. Thanks again!
28/29 inch rods are great, imo. Longer lever and more shock absorption. That surprise pike grabs your jig and you’ve got a 12 inch rod it’s basically your forearm and drag fighting that fish! I hear you on the shorter gives you more control but it’s probably superfluous, vis a vis the longer rod, for panfish.
Had the pleasure of meeting one of the Gentlemen from Frozen Puppy rods at Knutsons Sporting Goods in Brooklyn MI!! Just placed my first order with them for this hardwater season.. #Bringontheicealready
I've been ice fishing for 30 years now and I'll say something about this the new guy like this guy's just get a Ugly GX2 or Ugly stick dock runner medium power 36"rod and switch the reel to ABU Garcia MAX Z size 10 reel or size 20 reel is My go to rod for most fishing but got the Big Smash medium heavy rod, Dip Sitck 39" medium, Dump Truck 45" medium heavy rod Mister Big 43"Heavy some of the one I use. The ZEBCO dock Demon 👿 for the guy's first year 26" medium light but ZEBCO has two kinds one 36" medium power the one I have from the 1999; works great still. You want sensitivity get a rod that stiffer thas all it is me love the fiberglass rods won't brake ezy on me. The graphite rod is great for bass not much for ice fishing 🎣🤔
Hi. Can you recommend guys some combos for trout fishing 1-4lb I just want to start fishing on ice first time and need not chip but not expensive combos. Thanks
Great vid, lots of awesome ino. I am really wanting to try an inline but I live in the middle of nowhere so gotta order without trying whick worries me, I would like to get a feel for a reel first.
New in ice fishing. What's behind UL , L, ML , M ....? IF I go for bass I want pretty strong back bone rod, my lure is big but light spoon .I want him play in water in time of sinking. So should I take UL for bass? Why not to do a test on rod tip for lure weight? Otherwise ul, l ,ml , m dosen't say nothing.
thanks man this video helped me alot. i live in south east pennsylvania and we dont get alot of ice so i dont wanna spend alot on my rod. i ended up getting a ugly stick dock runner for my first rod and made a few homemade ice rods from old bass and trout rods
can you do a video on how to set up that eagle box on how to fit 4 or more rods in there with the reels on the rods. 4 rods are a tight with those rods with 2 decent and 2 open reels
I’ve been fishing scine I was 4 but I’ve only gone ice fishing like 13 times so I’m planning to get more nicer gear and fish on lake supior for some trouts
I am lucky enough to live where I can drive less than 50 miles and choose between about 300 lakes. I can be catching 10" perch and on that same body of water hook up with a 36" pike or 40" Makinaw...26"Walleye...I mean it is all here. I need a rod at about 36" that will have the sensitivity to detect a Walleye bite but while fishing for Walleye it needs the backbone to handle a 25+ pound Walleye or 40"pike. I can only fit about 6 rods in my load out. I fish depths of up to 100 feet with lures up to an ounce do i want too much? I looked at one rod that i thought ticked my boxes... but 160$...
We haven't been able to ice fish in 2 years... It's spring now, so we won't be doing any ice content until potentially next winter. There are a few other ice videos on our channel though.
I think you guys have it backwards why are you getting smaller rods. I started15 years ago with 24" rod before that just a stick. i now have over 20 ice rods and I don't even touch any of the ones under 32" although I do go for a lot more walleye, whitefish and lakers . my go to rod is a streamside 42" medium fast paired with a 2000size reel. my next upgrade will be to a frostbite rod, would love the whole series their designed by ice fishermen for ice fishermen they're all bigger not smaller rods, the run and gun rod is 50" . in all Paul said it right it is all about the action of the rod. I just use ultralights and fast action for pan fish. So if you guys like the inline reels have either of you thought of getting a baitcaster ice rod?
@@aaanglers i live in Canada between two of the best perching lakes in Ontario. usually I'd be on the one by next weekend perchin until i can get out for the bigger walleye and laker's but the ice isn't co-operating. but yeah i use a 36" ML with a very fast tip when out for perch my friend uses the same but 32" baitcaster rod. the longer rod also allows the use of lighter line i use 8lb max main line and as light as 4lb 2' leader
Just bought one 13 descent inline ice reel won’t reel if drag is set and will not drop with a 5/16 bolt if drag is loose will not release when you push the release button ! I will be returning it .

I buy Mags rods. A guy in the U.P. makes them and are sold in my local sporting goods store. I like the 13 fishing black Betty and the free falls

Either a mags custom rod. I like mags power noodle or try out a Jason Mitchell dead meat rod
Was just looking at ice fishing stuff . Rods and jigs and stuff. If we get ice this year, I think I'm going to try again. Haven't done it in years.
Heck yeah!
Do it!!!

Would love to see more ice fishing content! I’m hoping to get out for my first ice season. Thanks, gentlemen!
Tuned Up Custom Rods for ice are prolly top in my arsenal. 30 inch minimum length. Light to medium light for all round rod. Okuma Ceymar for reel
People’s Elbow! Thanks for continuing to churn out the content. Looking forward to see how your hard water season turns out 👍🏼.
I live in Texas so I don’t have ice fishing here.. but I may need to travel up north to give it a shot!!
I need a video on everything from lures to gear to take on the ice to be comfortable
on it!

Cool layout of the Rods. i definitely learned something.
Great video !👍🎣 Please make another for 2023/2024 season
Pls. Do the whole winter setup for all the new guys. You did one last yr. It was great. My second yr. On the ice.
Will do!

That’s the play

You could use the same set ups we talk about here. Only reason to go bigger or heavier set ups is for bigger trout.

So I have the Garcia combo love it but it is too much for sun fish. But with that said love the rod for slab raps ripping wraps and other heavy baits
How about the the old tried & true Shooley?!
Wouldn’t mind a full lure and equipment breakdown.

Tape the jig or rubber band it and loosen the drag to keep tension off the tip.
Jeff broke out his Eagle Claw case like Biff broke out his Pitbull ~

a remote and a easy chair
Direct decent reel
Dont buy them junk inline reels cheaply made with shity drag systems. You can buy 2 decent spinning reels for the price of them.
can i use my Moana Rod to ice fish?? ...seriously...
oh crap, maybe it needs to be the Frozen Rod~ *crickets*
Duh!

Its not so much about length more about action💀
