I have learned a lot from watching videos from you, Aaron, and Clayton for a few years now. I had been raised in a non fishing environment and to be able to teach my grandkids is priceless! Thank you young man, god bless you all!
Between your channel and Aaron’s channel you guys have done quite a bit for the fishing community in general. Great information for beginners and pros alike. From safety to tips and tricks if you can’t pick up something from every video these channels aren’t for you. You guys are complete wealth of information! Thanks for everything you guys do for the fishing community!
Like I said at the outset of this series, Jay these need to be shown in schools, tackle stores, hardware stores etc. This is a fantastic educational series for those looking to head out onto the ice!! My favourite of all time Ice Rod got lost a few seasons ago and I have not yet found it's equal. it was a Mitchell medium fast about 28-30" long and was the rod I used to use almost every time out, if not all the time. It was great for sensitive bites for walleye and perch, but had a beefy enough backbone for jackfish and the odd laker. Have a stupidly expensive St. Croix rod now and it's okay as a replacement but that silly little $40 Mitchell just felt better when it counted. Oh well, nothing wrong with the St. Croix and I'll likely be singing it's praises in another couple years. Take care, have a safe and fun season!!
Thanks for this series Jay. I bought the Dipstick last year on your recommendation and it's been fantastic on gills, crappie and perch. I've caught a few smaller bass on it, but nothing too substantial yet. I dont know if you own any TUCR rods, but I've been wondering how the TUCR Bullwhip compares to the Dipstick. Not sure if I should pick up a Bullwhip to use in addition to my Dipstick or if there's too much overlap in their performance as far as style/sensitivity, etc. The Dipstick is like ONE THIRD the price so if I wouldnt gain anything by buying a Bullwhip it hardly seems worth it. Keep up the good work brother! Oh, and tell the Frostbite boys to put out a vid explaining the Burnt v1 rods vs the Burnt v2 series rods and if there have been any changes, etc.
Years ago I went ice fishing with my grandfathers buddy. He would take an old junk rod and cut it above the forward grip then epoxy the tip section inside the grip. Im pretty sure most guys would scoff at this but in my area we get maybe 2-3 weeks of decent ice in late January early February so to those old timers there was no sense in buying a new ice fishing rod.
Nice & imformative video thanks. All the rods you mentioned seem awfully long to me,But I fish in portable shanty so for lack of room use shorter rods.
Hey jay I have a question do U think I should get a 28ML or a 30L I want something that’ll work for panfish but also have a little more backbone for bigger fish that’s why I think maybe the 30l might be better thanks
What type of line do you recommend? I fish braid in summer and love it compared to mono but havnt been able to find a braid that works well in the cold. Seems like braid is only good for in the tent and mono outside. What do you suggest? Love the series btw!
Not sure if you still check this videos comments but I was curious what you carried your rods in I bought 3 new frostbite rods and want to get something nice to carry them in if you have any suggestions much appreciated love the content and keep it up
Hey Jay Dale from Alberta here. I was wondering if you could do a review on the ice fishing rod box you use with the capability of carrying tackle boxs and where is the best deal. Thanks bro love the vids you are putting out keep them coming
Im sure alot of people in MB are wondering which fish batter taste the best...In Mb we only get limited selections of fish batter mix....It would be nice to see which selections we can choose from which brand.
hey Jay I bought a the 39” Light Dipstick rod just wondering since it covers many applications what lb test braid to lb test floro leader would you recommend thanks
Forget rods for pikes! Pikes is ALL about tip-ups. It's the only specie that you will do better on tip-ups than on jigging rods. Jay, no inline reels!?? Really!?? Man, you're missing the boat for shallow (less than 15ft) perch, panfish and bass... And two thumbs up for keeping those short rods in your basement where they belong. Short rods are a thing of the past... Great serie, love it!

Thank you so much for the amazing comment! We’ve all had great teachers along the way. Just trying my best to give back 🙏
@@JaySiemens well for what’s it’s worth you’re doing a great job man.
That garage is way too neat. I’m jealous. I wish I was this organized

Cheap good options Dock Demon and Dock Runners are under 20 bucks, basically kid poles, work great for ice.
The dipstick and true grit are the only two I use. Awesome rods.

As mentioned, you’ll want to suit your choices to your fishing style
Yes thank you sir. I was just thinking/wondering what size/length rod you would use/recommend for shanty use.
Thank you now I know I hat stuff I need to get because I’m gonna be trying for panfish and maybe trout
You should do something like this for the spring
8 rods and I mostly use one rod. Versatile rod for everything.
Good luck this season as well.

Powerpro icetec is great in the cold as it is meant for ice fishing! It's my go-to
Great info, learned a couple things. 🙏 Will there be a video on tip-ups?
Thanks! Yup, #9

@@JaySiemens hey jay is there a difference between normal line vs ice line?
When do the new frostbite rods come out?
They're out now! They are just out of stock for the moment, there are more coming in soon tho
@@dantesrodriguez5467 yeah I’m talking about the new burnt series. Too excited!
Hey Jay
Dale from Alberta here. I was wondering if you could do a review on the ice fishing rod box you use with the capability of carrying tackle boxs and where is the best deal.

Hey so sorry but my rod case is discontinued. Sorry I couldn't be more help but thanks for watching!
Great series, Would have mentioned line size for those set ups though.
Then I’d have nothing to talk about in the next video!
@@JaySiemens good point, carry on fine sir.
Anything over 40" is to long for my little 2man popup, 32" is my goto
A 4000 reel for ice fishing seems overkill, no? My biggest is a 1000, mind you I'm mostly after walleye.
I would use a 4000 size when targeting 40+ inch lake trout or pike using i-fish pros. Can hold a lot of 40-60lb test line.
@@JaySiemens Thanks for reply Jay. Love the video series!
Hey Jay.....Great Videos....Can you make a video of which Fish Batters are Great to buy/ a fish fry which batter taste the best for ice fishing.
Catch and cook!

Want to get a dipstick rod! Would frostbite restock this year?
Yup, should be restocked in the next week or two I’m told.
Awesome
This help alot
I’m glad!
Thoughts on inline reels vs. spinning?
Spinning is my go-to
Are they planning to restock the frostbite rods anytime soon? They're always out of stock.
Yup!
@@JaySiemens Sweet! I'll keep an eye on it.
Amazing
🙏🙏🙏
No mention of inline reels?
I’ve played with inline reels a little bit, not sure they are worth the hype. I prefer spinning.
ugrhhhhh!!! I should have not buy the ice gears before watching this series T.T Now I realize that my gears are all wrong
Can you show us anything else you use that may not be a category on it’s own like a miscellaneous items video
