The music brings back memories of my mother playing the tunes on her piano and adding her own flair!

It’s a shame to see the condition of this film (not Retrospective’s fault). Let’s hope one day a film preservationist will go to the Universal vault and restore this film, both in visual and audio. But it’s still a great record of Helen Forrest and the Andrew Sisters! 👍🏻 To see Harry James and Helen Forrest in Technicolor, see them in MGM’s Bathing Beauty from 1944. Unfortunately there are no feature films of the Andrew’s Sisters in Technicolor.

Those last couple of songs really ramped up the propaganda. Very interesting but also quite chilling.

A light-hearted, singing frolic, when so many of those marching off were not going to come back. Around 50,000 combat casualties at Okinawa alone! How sad and such a waste of human resources is war. "War is a Racket" -- General Butler

Please, do not forget that war started with one single guy convincing his country of invading another country on - philosophical reasons. And that guy had very unsavory allies. Try to imagine how the world would be now if nobody had opposed them.
Also, it wasn't the States the only ones fighting then - the *Allies* won that war. Great Britain hold despite being bombed regularly and being, basically, fighting alone for a long while. Russia was invaded and lost more soldiers than any other country. Japan was one of the culprits, but they got two atomic bombs and unimaginable suffering; Germany was heavily bombed too.
Maybe if the States, instead of watching the beginning of the hostilities and not intervening until the Nazis had almost all Europe under their power and they themselves got attacked by Japan - if the States had intervened *earlier,* they would have had less casualties, and that World War would have ended faster. Without nuking civilians.
Any similarity with current situations is just history repeating itself.

@@MariaMartinez-researcher Utter nonsense. Stalin invaded Poland only two weeks after the Wehrmacht ended the massacres and grapes of German-speaking civilians in the old Prussia sector. Why no "declaration of war" on him? (It gives away the whole game.)

This one has no A&C but it still has a lot of charm and fun tunes, like "Six Jerks in a Jeep." Helen Forrest is amazing, Donald O'Connor is basically a baby in this one, and Mary Wickes is always so much fun.
