- What’s up guys! This is the 2023 Passport by Honda, it’s rocking a 3.5 V6 making an earth shattering 280HP, and it goes through an AWD system, that may be FWD biased. With all that said, I like it!
Like, comment, subscribe, and have a great day! 🙂

I just picked up a 2023. Coming from a 2020 CRV. Longtime Honda owner. Still have my 2005 CRV. I’m 6’1”. I haul an Alumna trailer for my dirt bike. Have all my riding gear and tools in the cargo area with plenty of room to spare. My Labrador likes the backseat. To me the Passport feels like an upsized CRV.
It has everything I liked about the CRV but with more room inside, better visibility, better power. Only negative is give up some gas mileage versus CRV. If you’re used to Hondas, the cabin controls, etc., you’ll feel right at home.
We just purchased one just like this, without the running boards, we are really enjoying it. The color is beautiful and to be honest, for them to have the EX-L as the basic trim, it comes fully loaded, has parking sensors, power lift gate, blind spot monitoring, heated leather seats, sunroof, LED lighting and come on AWD, to our like its perfect, it is missing foglights but we havent really used them in our previous cars. Thanks for such a good review of the car.
That’s awesome! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. And seriously, this one is a great value! My pleasure, thanks for watching. 🙂
Would you say it has room for 3 kids in the back seats? 1 high back booser and 1 basic booster seat.
I would imagine so with the width of this vehicle, but I am only speculating and definitely not an expert on child seat set ups… best of luck! 🙂
How’s the road noise?
Hopefully an owner chimes in, but in my short time with it I thought it was pretty well insulated. 🙂
I've had my 23 Trailsport for about 2 weeks, traded in a 2013 jeep grand cherokee srt8, and have not regretted it one bit, very well made vehicle, thank you Honda!!!!
I’m sure you miss that 6.4 power, but I’m glad you’re enjoying the Trailsport!! 🙂
I've had my 23 trailsport about 4 days now and I like it but seems like I look away and look back at the gas guage it moves. How is your mileage though it may be to early to tell.
I have a 2022 Passport (Touring) which is the highest trim level here in Canada and I love it. Great build quality, ride, power, reliability and trade in value when it comes time to do that. Hard to ask for more than that. I would definitely 💯% buy it again if I was asked whether I would or not.
That’s awesome to hear! Thanks for sharing your ownership experiences! 🙂
I purchased the 2019 Passport Elite new 06/2019 and love it. Turned 60K miles this week. I average 22 MPG mixed driving. Plenty of room and comfortable for me, I'm 6'4. Lots of cargo space and it occasionally tows my small utility trailer. Great in snow, city or highway driving. More passenger room than most midsized SUVs. The Elite is loaded with features, more than the EXL shown in the video. Heated and ventilated seats, Roof, pull up Sunshades in rear doors etc. I purchased my first Pilot in 2005 and drove it for 10years no issues at all. Next was a 2016 Acura MDX for 4 years, loved it. Now the 2019 Passport and it just came out at the time, and I didn't need three rows of seats. The Elite has most of the options my MDX had. The MDX Ride was better than the Passport, but it was also better than the BMW X5 I rented for 10 days while on vacation. The Passport has a very solid ride, and it sits a little higher than the MDX, so probably explains why them MDX rides better. I would recommend this car to anyone.
Awesome write up! Thanks for sharing your ownership experience! I’m glad it’s been going so well. 🙂
any VCM related issues?
@@LoveLikeaHurricane No I haven't, and I just turned 65,000.
We picked up a 23 with Elite trim back in March for my wife. She loves it!
That sounds like a sweet ride! 🙂
I just traded in my 2021 CRV lease for one of these. I LOVE it so far!!! Very nice options for the 'base' model. I too was comparing to a Grand Cherokee Altitude. I personally would never buy a JEEP, but I would a Honda. They require minimal maint. if taken care of. Looking forward to my many comfy years in this vehicle. Thanks for the review!
That’s an awesome trade up! And I agree, on your decision to go with a another Honda. Thanks for watching! 🙂
I can not even handle your jokes about the passport and the air bags “air-vreywhere”. 😂🤦🏻♂️😂😂😂. I’ve always liked these as well and wouldn’t mind owning one! The only thing I don’t care much for is the digital speedometer 🤷🏻♂️
We have the 2021 Sport model (lowest trim for that year) and we love it. I just drove 800 miles in a single day and was not overly fatigued. We use it as our weekend camper van, built a 12" extension that fits in the rear head rest mounts, Loads of room. Its actually fun to drive when you get it wound up..:)
That sounds awesome, I’m glad you guys are thoroughly enjoying it and making it an adventure vehicle! 😎
I had a ‘21 Passport Elite, which I replaced with my ‘22 Mercedes E450 All-Terrain Wagon. But since I missed the big, boxy rear storage area of the Passport (the new Pilot does not have the rear hatch height of the Passport, to the point that a 30” tall dog crate will NOT fit into the Pilot, while the Passport can easily swallow it up), I went back and added a ‘24 Passport Trailsport. Love it !
I’m gonna trade my civic for this
That’s exciting! 🙂
Nice. Is this like the same width as the Ridgeline? I currently drive a 2018 Forester XT, and like it. I am considering this Passport, but how much bigger is this in comparison. The Passport here is same price as the 2023 Subaru Forester Wilderness.
Yes the same roughly 6.5’ wide! The Passport definitely feels a bit wider and overall larger than a Forester. It even has almost 10 more cubic feet of room behind the second row. 🙂
I feel like driving in S mode isn’t the best gauge
We bought a 2022passport last yr so far it’s been a very good experience from the dealership thru now we live in the snow belt just south of Lake Michigan it’s gotten us thru it all so far lots of room n power for everything not to sure about pushing it into the trails as I don’t think the suspensions n axles will handle that but in Al very happy with the purchase thanks for the video
I’m glad you’re enjoying it! Thanks for watching. 🙂
We have owned a couple G/Cs a ford explorer along with a Isuzu And out of all these the passport i the best so far
I bought the passport trailsport. Very happy with it... 8300 miles so far. It is a joy to drive. Alot of room
That’s awesome, I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
Good review, annoying speaking presentation: Avoid sounding like a Fanboy.. Ie. "Fantastic" ; be specific (that's why we are watching) - avoid "a bunch of", " some of" terms, specify exactly who or what, since that is your primary purpose of doing the video. Otherwise, good content.
Thanks for the suggestions!! I’ve now been making videos for about 2 years so this was one of my earlier ones. I think the newer stuff is more like what you’re suggesting, but it’s a constant work in progress and a lot of fun to keep making better and more information packed videos. Thanks for watching!! 🙂
I don't get heated seats. Unless you're driving naked in the dead of winter, without the heat on, then I guess they're worth it. Otherwise, why bother?
😂
Come up to the Great White North and experience -40. I’ll bet you quickly change your opinion…
@@erda2072 no thanks.
Awesome where I live in Alaska. I’ll keep them and forget the A/C.
The Passport, Pilot, Odyssey, and Ridgeline are made in America in Alabama. Civics, Accords, and CR-Vs are made in Indiana and Ohio.
Thanks for sharing this! 🙂
The lack of a push button parking brake, auto hold for the brakes and a larger sun roof are perplexing for a vehicle in this price point... everything else is great.
Why is my Honda passport newly doing a fast series of beeping when I am walking away after closing the back tailgate ❓❓🙏🏽
That’s a good question, hopefully someone who owns one can answer. My thought is that maybe something like headlights or the accessory power could be left on? 🤷♂️
a piece of garbage, the worst car, right now I have an exl with hpd and I hate it, the suspension is horrible, every time I get off I have a headache, I hate this car!!!
I’m sorry to hear that! Do you know what you plan to trade it for? 🙁
I would like something the same size, but focused comfort…
Any suggestion ?
I would personally look at the other Japanese brands. I’m sorry to hear this Honda hasn’t been good for you and several others. But maybe the Toyota Highlander (although I have no personal experience with them..yet), a Subaru Ascent or Mazda CX9. With the third row folded down they’re similarly sized for cargo capacity.
I also just did a 2024 VW Atlas Cross Sport, it felt very similar sized to the Passport, but on the forums owners are having A LOT of problems with them… 😢 Best of luck in what you decide!
what is horrible about the suspension? I actually love the bouncy ride.
I will buy it from you!
Bought one at the end of April. I’m tickled with it.
That’s awesome! 🙂
Currently own a CRV. Considering the Passport for my next vehicle.
subaro accent exterior is better.... back and side is uggly
I've been shopping all kinds of vehicles for months now. You mentioned one name a couple of times. What the hell is a Foreigner?🤔
That’s a good question! Do you think I could have been meaning to pronounce Forester? 😅
i know its been a while but would you rather have a newer passport or a few years old used Acura MDX?
Personally, I don’t need fancier than the Passport. So although I’m sure a well treated used MDX is just as reliable I would rather have the brand new example with a full warranty, especially if I’m paying 40K+ for a vehicle. But that’s just my own preference. Thank you for watching this fairly early review video of mine! 🙂
I've heard the 9 speed Automatic in these can be problematic? Not as reliable as the 10 speed found in the Pilot? Also can you get these below msrp does anyone know?
Which year is problematic
love this car
Grand Cherokee is not body on frame. 4 runner only But you did I nice video.
You’re right, thank you for adding that! I ignorantly assumed because up until 2021 they had the 5.7, 6.4, and 6.2 Hellcat engine so I assumed it had to be body on frame lol. Thanks for watching! 🙂
You missed the passenger power seat. Not everyone knows that. That’s sweet. Now about your 😂shoes😅
Good catch! Lol, I’m assuming I was wearing my Chacos? Don’t knock them until you try them! 😉😛
Question - I'm 6'4" tall, is this vehicle too small for me? Driving a Highlander now but will have 200,000 miles on it my next spring
I would ask that question on a forum, or search for a similar question. I assume you would be fine with how large the interior of this vehicle felt. But I can’t say for certain as I haven’t had much time in Hondas since filming this one. 🤷♂️😅 Best of luck, and thanks for watching! 🙂
We just traded in our Highlander for the passport. I think you would really LOVE the extra room and height the passport has over the Highlander. I love both - but I’m honestly more in love with my passport!
Just purchased. Love it, except .... has anyone else had an issue with the wireless charger for your iPhone? Dealer said (after the purchase) that it was a known issue and wasn't sure Honda could do anything about it? Surely, I'm not the only Honda / Apple consumer, or is this a rare combination. Thanks for any help, or any suggestions for connectivity (I have attempted three different phones, with and without case, orientated in various ways, but keeps turning on for 2-5 seconds then failing). Thanks.
Congrats on your sweet ride! 🙂 I hope an owner can help answer your question?!
I've just given up on the wireless charger, I connect to usb anyway for navigation, so have not had the need for it.
Grand Cherokee is not body on frame,(I don't think)
I briefly looked it up today and I believe you’re right. I was surprised to learn that since they had the Hemi and Hellcat platform that the GC shares with the Durango. I figured it must be body on frame. 😅
Awesome video. Thank you for sharing.
We just got one and we love it.
I’m glad the video was helpful and you’re enjoying your sweet new ride! Thanks for watching. 🙂
9:16 Did you add Tinted Windows on the 2nd row? They look tinted. I wonder if Tinted Windows is standard in EXL. Thanks.
This Passport was slightly used when I found it to review, I’m unsure if any additional tint was added beyond the factory tint. Thanks for watching! 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208Just brought home this trim & color with roof rail though like the running board. Thanks for the detailed review again. It was super helpful for me to make the decision. Still trying to figure out how to pair the remote garage opener!
About how much bigger is the Passport than my 2011 Toyota RAV4?
Quite substantial. You can google “car size” and find a website where you can visually compare their different dimensions. Thanks for watching! 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Cool. Thanks! 👍
Interested because I love my Element
Elements are cool! I use to own an FJ cruiser which I always felt was like the Toyota off road version of the Element. 🙂
this or outback xt?
That’s a good question, they’re both so good! I’d personally pick the Honda for max reliability especially if not needing the better AWD in the Subaru. But also the Subaru likely is faster and a smoother/sportier ride that could be a bit less expensive and probably have more features. Best of luck! 🙂
I had an Outback. This drives just as well, if not better in the snow.
what about road noise, is it quiet?
It’s honestly been too long since I’ve driven this to have any valuable insight regarding that aspect! Hopefully some other owners respond to you. Test driving one for yourself would be the best answer. But searching or asking that question on social media forums is also a great source of knowledge! Best of luck! 🙂
It is quitter than the older Honda Pilots. I had a new 2005 for ten years and it had road noise. I have a 2019 Passport Elite and it has much less road noise.
Thanks for sharing this!!
I bought a brand new 2023 Honda Passport Elite in March. As of today, I have 12,000 miles on it. I love it! Hands down the best vehicle I've ever owned. Very happy with my purchase. This is a fantastic SUV. That VTECH engine is legendary. Paired with the i-VTM4 it's nimble and sure footed in all weather and driving conditions. The Passport is fast, roomy, comfortable and smooth to drive. Not too flashy or pretentious. Affordable middle ground choice for a commuter working guy like myself. Honda makes great products.
I’m glad you’re enjoying it! These sure are a great product. 🙂
Nice review. Test drove one of these. Nice but I prefered the Outback XT Limited. Have you test driven any thing from Hyundai? Perhaps a Tucson? Very nice vehicle as well!
I have only driven the new Kia EV6, and nothing from Hyundai yet. But when I get the opportunity I’ll take it! Thanks for watching. 🙂
From 0 - 60 7.3 sec??? V6??? Shame.
3300 ft of altitude though
Motor trend pulled a 5.7 average is 6.1. Not sure why this one is so slow
Down in Tri-Cities, (Richland, Pasco, Kennewick), WA the wind doesn’t blow, it SUCKS yr round, that’s why not long after high school, I moved.
I Hate the wind. Dude, I don’t know how you can stand it where you live.
Great review btw.
I never fully realized how bad the wind was around here until starting to try and film cars outside hahaha. Hopefully it settles down in these warmer months, if not I’ll get a better microphone. 😛
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 I’d move
You have a degree that can take you anywhere you want to go.
Does it come with a CD player?
I’m not sure what all accessories can be added to these, you likely could find that out through your local Honda website. Also depending on where in the world you are different options may be available from other markets. Thanks for watching!
no CD player on the USA version,
Why is the inside so dirty
That’s a great question! 😬 This 2023 I found was actually slightly used with a few thousand miles on it. Definitely should have been cleaned a bit better! It seemed like something with grease/oil had splattered on the leather. So I guess we now know what that would look like! 😅 Thanks for watching! 🙂
Its not made in Japan
Good correction, it’s assembled in Alabama. Thanks!
Imagine the cost if it was made in Japan.
Great review. Can you please review the 25 Chevy Trax?
I sure will try! I might do a 24 Trax this week actually. I haven’t driven one yet. 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Thanks and looking forward to it.
Which is bigger inside this or the pilot
Same width but the pilot is like 11” longer! At least according to the Google. Thanks for watching! 🙂
My only concern is the CVT transmission !
Oops, did I say CVT? It should be a 9 speed! 🙂
