“That’s enough talking, let’s hear how it sounds.”
*melts my face with shred*
George is one of my favorite 80’s guitarists along with Warren DeMartini. How about a Ratt inspired preset? BTW - I think you nailed George’s licks!
Dude Warren is soooo good. Time to crank some Ratt.
Doug Eakle
Two of the greatest
Sprinkle on some Jake E Lee
Or Alex Skolnick
Bufford Evans Yes! Jake and Skolnick, we must have hung out together.
Doug Eakle
Cheers man !!
Still waiting on a Rocky George lead preset block ala ( how will I laugh tomorrow)
Hint hint Leon
Most def for both, and a preset for some Gilmour lead would be impressive too
Terrific as always Leon! I've learned that using your Cab IR's make all the difference. Your various IR's are in every one of my presets, thank you.
The Hammer sounded exactly like Back for the attack
Fun Fact: George Lynch did in fact play PRS Custom 24 models, for a brief period in the early 90's, before going back to ESP superstrats. There's a video from a Lynch Mob concert here on YT, where he's playing a yellow & a blue PRS Cu 24.
I know that concert! Love that blue one he has
great stuff as always brother!
George came into my Guitar Center branch a few years ago looking like a homeless, shrunken/deflated hulk hogan and then proceeded to melt everyone’s faces off with a tele into a vintage sears silvertone. Pretty odd day LOL
That's the best story ever!
Alive In The Night s
Killer stuff man, Georges tone on this Album is insane, the hunter is my personal favourite. Love the Hamer sounds awesome with this preset 👌
Listening to that right now; what a beast.
One of the best crunch tone i have ever heard in my life
Nice. Listening with headphones I liked the Hammer best. Gotta love George and some of his wide interval licks. Thanks for sharing the Wagner post you dug up, that guy is so awesome.
Yeah the Hamer really nails the vibe. Wagner IS the secret weapon for that whole era.
I totally agree, the Hamer was the best and to me nailed the Lynch tone from Back For the Attack album.
Well done. Can almost smell my teenage bedroom - thanks?
That Hamer nailed the '87-'88 live tone!
I just attempted my first FM3 preset, I was also going for the “In My Dreams” sound...not quite there but I’m still experimenting. I used the Plexi 100 70 model with a Super OD boost into a 1960A cabinet followed by a Analog Stereo chorus and then into a North Church reverb. Right now it sounds a little dull, but I’ll keep tweaking things until I’m satisfied with it. This is a great video btw, your playing is in top-notch form 👍🏻
Woooaahhh...you melted my face with the tone and especially your playing. Simply AMAZING!!!🎵🎵🎵🎸🎸🎸
If you have an ax with a Duncan Distortion I'd like to hear you play it with this tone profile. It's just about there. Great playing too!
Didn't George Lynch use Duncan Distortions back then?
sounds awesome buddy wish i could come to Australia and jam with you
Awesome tone and playing! So close to George tone. 👍👍👍
Thanks so much!
You nailed it Leon! You needn't have worried about the PRS being Lynch anathema, GL used one in the early portion of Lynch Mob 😀
Excellent job going after George's tones Leon! Thanks for the presets and Ir's.
Man Leon Thanks for Sharing all this great content and experience. All you do on any platform sounds amazing you really show the capability of modern modelers.
yeah, really really really good! I think that the most difficult part is that low mid bark and saturation that he had, i think it is given to the really loud marshall crushing the speaker, and you've got it, really good!
Wow, brilliant work, I absolutely love your videos, thank you so much for taking the time to do them. I've learned so much from them, helped with my constant quest for the tone in my head.
That means a lot to hear ; it's a never ending search for tone
Another great preset!!!! George Lynch was the reason I started playing guitar back in the 80’s. I saw the video for Dream Warriors & when he came out of that wall with the J Frog Skull & Bones guitar, that was the moment. I had to play!
Oh man that video is the bomb, must have been amazing to witness when it came out
Leon Todd Yes it was! I was like 13 years old, & it was the best decade to be that age. I got to see all of the great music as it came out! Hey, do you ever listen to Criss Oliva from Savatage? My other guitar inspiration. A patch like that would be epic!! I was going to try tone matching from a song to see how close it actually gets. It will be my first shot at that. This is my first Axe Fx, so I’m getting through the learning curve still. Your vids are VERY helpful, seriously
Dude you're speaking my language, I freakin' love Criss and everything Savatage did with him! HOTMK, Streets, Gutter Ballet and Edge of Thorns inspired me so much as a player and a writer. I've got an Edge of Thorns cover in the works i need to finish one day.
Leon Todd Wow, that’s awesome. I absolutely need to hear that when you finish it! Criss should have been in every guitar magazine & in the top of every “greatest guitar player” poll. He was an amazing guitarist that most people were never aware of. I mean, the solo on Ghost in the Ruins has to be one of my favorites of all time.
Leon! This sounds INCREDIBLE!!!! Great job!
What about a tone that would be Nuno inspired? I haven't seen anyone touch that one!
Soon....
One of the coolest videos I've seen in my life. Love it! That damn Hamer !!! WOW! Love it!!!
Great vid Leon! I always tried to cop GL's Under Lock and Key tone, but over the years I've gotten more appreciation for his tones on Back for the attack as it seems more raw snd less processed (maybe just me). The perfect example is the intro to Lost Behind the Wall. I would like to see a similar right-up by the guy who recorded that (different from UL&K) and how they achieved it, and how it differed from UL&K.
Damn, that’s a sick tone, and thanks for sharing all these videos!
My pleasure, thanks for watching.
Lynch is a monster no one sounds like him you nailed the tone.
I'm late to the Lynch.. but man you nailed it. Sounds great. Now if only I lived next door and you could dial in my old 11 rack! 🤔😉😂 George is a big fave of mine. Thank you! 🍻
Loved it. The Hamer is spot on. And great playing as always, mate
Ha, nice stuff Leon. Some beautifully Lynch inspired twidderlings. The Hamer won for me on that 80's guitar sound. Great post🤘👍😉
Dude, you're freaking awesome. Fractal needs to throw you some bones. Who knows how many units you've sold for them, LOL.
I just got one and honestly would probably turn it back in as I just don't have the studio engineering skills to get the tones that I want, but your videos really help learn how to dial in the tone you want. And you've developed some great presents, thanks for sharing.
Damn. You da man. As the other guy said please do a Warren tone. Lynch and Dimartini are my favorites. Ok De Garmo is in there too.
Definitely getting the Axe 3.
Maybe you can do an episode featuring Robbin Crosby?
that was truly epic! great job. and great playing.
You sound like a freaking legend !😎 The 80s sound on 11🤘
Awesome playing buddy
Epic!!!
Been waiting for this one, so sick
Thx for the preset on axe forum, but I’m having trouble getting it to sound right. Sounds thin or lacking, when I downloaded the amp patch it gave me three, I uploaded one, should I have tried all 3, new to all of this. I’ve got the preset with both cabs loaded into it on my ax 3, thx for all your help.
I think it's a great replica of the tone, I like it. Would you be able to show step by step how you create a tone match, I would appreciate it. It's great to see someone with your knowledge and willing to share it with the world. Thanks again and again.
Killing it, keep em going!
OMG you nailed it bro, I’m buying mine this week, taking advantage of the November sale thanks 🙏
One of my favorites and a great guy.
The way to get the under lock n key tone, is to set the delay at 28 or 48 milliseconds, with very slight chorus. And some revrb. and start out with a dry woody tone and go from there with your effects. Use a good bit of mids and roll the treble off. ALSO A LANY AND MARSHAL ANPS HELP hahah
Impressive playing! The
Lynch meister is hard to emulate.
rhodes, shenker, uli roth , lynch...2-3 seconds and you know its them...the way your going a few years you will have developed the todd sound !!! sounds great man keep it up
Man if I'm 0.1% as recognisable as those guys I'll be very, very happy. The demigods!
Which Parallel Axis bucker do you have on the Hamer? It sounds the best of all the guitars. Wonderful tone, great harmonics and crunch. And superb shredding.
That sounds amazing....
Cool! Great tone and playing!! 🎸🔊🎼🎶
Well done Leon! Thanks for sharing brother!
Awesome, George was a massive influence, all the decent 80s dudes were :-)
An era of insane players.
The best, Jeff Beck was my first guy, then RR, EVH, SRV, most of the guys with initials ;-) No CC for me though. Oh and the biggest blowout who sounded like nobody else, YNGWIE!
I'm right there with you. CC and Mick Mars never really did anything for me. Warren Demartini is another fave from that era. Yngwie is a GOD.
Darin Robinson YJM!
Great stuff, dude! I spent weeks transcribing that album when it first came out. I've always loved that tone and you nailed it. I just got the Axe FX3 too and am loving it thus far. I'm looking forward to doing some a/b comparison videos with the Kemper.
Did you share this patch on the fractal forum or anything?
Thanks so much. It's up on the forum now!
Sweet, thx,
That Hamer 😍😍😍
Leon, great playing and tone! Thanks for sharing. You got a new subscriber.
Much appreciated :)
Love George Lynch, love this!! My FM3 on its way and time stands still haha.
Great sound and playin man!
Leon,
Do you think these and your other 80’s tones that you’ve shared with us for the AFX3 would also work as demonstrated on the FM3?
Thank you for the settings.
No problem 👍
George has used a prs before.. he's stopped into my local music store and purchased at least one amp there. They said he said he's recorded a lot through little class "a" practice amps and that makes sense since some of his stuff sounds very brian may.
That's really interesting! That dude must have used every piece of gear ever made
Great guitarist 👏👏👏
I've become a Leon Todd superfan..... I use the ultimate modeler known as HELIX and would love to try these IRs but need them in .Wav form. Any thoughts? Also, I'm taking what you do here and am applying the ideas to my Helix with great results. Thanks for all the videos, I'm learning a bunch from you.

YOURE NOT TOO FAR OFF WITH THE PRS !!!!
Lynch played a PRS Custom 22 for entire shows back in the early Lynch Mob days. He had two. This is back when PRS was UBER boutique ala Black Machine or Bogner at one point were.
i saw a vid of that a while back, he sounded great with it. That first Lynch Mob album is a ripper.
Pretty amazing! Way over my head to tweak all of that... I have a Boss GT-6 that I bought for winter condo playing and am too scared to dive into messing with the settings in that thing.
The GT6 was a great unit. The later units stunk. They changed the system for the newer generstions and it was a serious downgrade. Very nasally sounding tones. But damn that GT6 was amazing.
Neal Schon used that thing and spoke very highly of it.
This sound really awesome 👏🏻
Ya you nailed it!! Can you make a rythm, and lead setting for the line 6 stomp? I would surely purchase it :-)
Hi mate, Brilliant Video, as you know I love George Lynch, you really nailed that Lynch Mob sound! Killer tone, brilliant playing!
A bit Spooky, I have a 1997 Peavey Wolfgang Arch top/Standard, same colour too. Are you using the Stock Wolfgang Pups?
Take care.
Melbourne.
Yeah it's all stock AFAIK, picked it up cheap second hand. Fits like a glove.
Leon Todd , I love the Neck Profile, the Birdseye is Beautiful! Don't get the upside down Switch, down for Neck, up for Bridge???
That's esrgasm mate, top content as always!
O mama! Sounds great, specialy with second guitar! Great job...as allways! 😊👍
Sounds amazing! You’re amazing!
I loved George's sound the most on Back for the Attack. .. bet you could kill that with the Friedman model!
George was channeling something special there.
Thank you for sharing!
F**k yes! Best video of all time - love it
Thought of you and the SDD video you did while going for the delay tone ;)
thanks man!
Fookin legend mate. Any chance you could replicate this in the Atomic? I've been using your SLO preset mostly in my Firebox
Loving the tones Leon, it's getting close for sure. Man if you can get a fat Zakk Wylde tone a la Hellraiser with the axe fx iii then I would be eternally grateful!! :)
Zakk on No More Tears was the sound that made me go "holy shit I need to figure out how to do that". Challenge accepted.
@@LeonTodd Right on !! :)
Great tone, and I love the IRs! Do you have other IRs for sale or download? I looked around, and what I can find has been taken down or moved. Thanks!

@@LeonTodd Awesome, thanks a lot!
That Hamer sounds awesome with this patch!!
Glad I pulled it out, it's snappier and sits so well for the 80's stuff.
I have a Kemper profile that Michael Wagner created from the Under Lock and Key album and another one from Tooth and Nail. I find his Lock and Key tone to be vastly superior. I got myself a super strat just to get the feel right. I love how it sounds with my Charvel San Dimas.
cool studio angle! any guitar showcase vids coming? insane solo jam!! were those actual lynch solos or just channeling some lynch like stuf? sounded awesome!
Anything in particular you'd like to see? Just jamming mostly, George is a big influence.
@@LeonTodd I kept on wondering about you and your dads guitar. Do you have a video on it yet? And so you dont have anymore heads right, not even the Soldano?
I really need to get one done. I still have all the amps, they're just in another part of the room!
Quick question buddy I'm playing my axe fx3 through a head rush frfr 2000 watt unit are you playing this through a 4 cable method solid state head because I downloaded it through axe exchange and it doesn't sound the same as when you play it. I'll try the cable method through my peavey head and Marshall cabinet.
Recorded direct on my end.
@@LeonTodd ok thanks
Hey Leon-You Continue To Inspire! Im 52 Been Gigging Here In Detroit For The Last 30 Years-Started In The Early 80`s And George Was The Sh*t! Can You Give Me What Exactly Factalaudio Unit You Are Using? I Also Checked The Link Above For The Post. Are The "IR Files" The Settings For This Tone On This Unit? Thanks!
George still rips too. The Axe-Fx III for this one
DAMNIT DUDE!!!!
that sounds awesome man \m/
That lick at 5:59 ascending is Very cool.
That is awesome! What gauge strings do you use? Thank you!
Great job!
WHEN AMPS SNDED LIKE AMPS,
Mr Scary slashes out again !! man that's awesome, plz let us know if you convert this for the ax8, i've always loved Dokken,Lynch Mob
Look up my AX8 80s presets video
Thank you so much for all your help, i truly appreciate your videos, your awesome, i look forward to learning more from your lessons, thx again, i'm getting my Friedman ASM 12 this weekend, so i can finally try this Lynch solo !! You Rock
That Sound Awesome
Killer tones brother, have you ever done an Yngwie style tone demo ?
Here's my attempt - ruclips.net/video/U_qJ8VcN2-4/видео.html
Killer stuff!!
I should try this on the Fractal FM3 .👍
You should!
@@LeonTodd was not able to have 2 amp blocks ( not sure of me . Or fm3 capabilities)
I did get atomica . And 2 cabs, Pitch. Reverb . Delay . Did all your settings . It’s not exact but it’s very close 👍
My first time making a preset
Ok, I'm gonna get flamed but I think some of the gain needs to be backed off and the delay level down a bit. It's just my opinion based on what i hear over my phone :(
Agreed.. My regular everyday setup sounds just as close to lynch. I have a Pod line 6 and Ibanez gem lol, lil random amp 👍
Loving your channel! Can you elaborate on the eq trick you talk about at 7:15?? Thanks!
Basically you target the 800hz range and boost it into the front end of the amp, pushing the mid range and helping the amp get that chewy, saturated distortion tone.
Thank you!!!!
Awesome, sounds like my DSL! ;)
Get yourself a Pignose. the way you play, you'd still sound incredible. thanks again for the rhythm licks.
Cool.. what strings do you use?
George did use a PRS in the early ‘90’s with Lynch Mob, for what it’s worth... 🤣
I’m pretty sure I hear some Rockman in his sounds on UL&K, too.
I think i've seen a vid where he's rocking a blue custom? Pretty rad. Dude has used ALL the gear, he's the Ron Jeremy of guitar.
Leon Todd
If I had a drink in my hand, it would be been all over my iPad... 🤣
The clean parts on that album are obviously Rockman. Some people claim he mixed that in with the distorted guitars, too. I think that I MIGHT hear some it on It's Not Love, but I remain in doubt.
Yeah, the clean, definitely. I hear some Rockman especially in that main lick/riff in "Don't Lie to Me" and a few other places.
Nice job man
Any chance you can do this for the atomic amplifier
Hi Leon i just load the preset and the cabs but i dont get any sound.Signal gets in but dont get out
Not to be "that guy" but the Hamer is a Chaparral, not a Californian (which has 27 frets). If you look at my avatar pic,I'm playing a Chaparral. Great sounding preset!
You're correct, totally my mistake. I should have known better.
Ha! No worries. I'm always thrilled to see a real Hamer still being used (not one of those cheap knock offs being sold now).
man it makes me sad that they've been reduced to a sticker on a generic instrument. I have a Vintage S, California Elite and Sunburst from that late 80's/early 90's golden era and they're superb instruments.
Sweet!!!! Sign.. Maybe someday I can afford AX Fx...
