I know this has been around a minute, but really helpful! I just got an expression pedal in the mail today, and spent some time getting a wah sound dialed. The challenge for me was getting the taper to feel right - mostly involved setting slope and mid points. I used a Weeping Demon for years, it was the only wah that really worked well with my tone.
I was watching the wild guitar solo that Zakk Wylde was doing on that live dvd and wondering how he was doing that wah solo without a wah. This explains it !!!
When I add the wah block to a preset build I created it doesn’t sound like a real wah. The low cuff is there but not the highness like when you roll towards the toe. And the control dial doesn’t react when I step on the expression pedal. It’s weird.
hi Leon - i just got my EV1 i used this tutorial to set it up. I couldnt find the calibration screen but the ev1 didnt need calibration. thanks again my friend.
Thanks for your tutorials. They are always informative. I also noticed in this one, but it’s true in all of them, that as soon as you switch to a high gain sound you get a scowl on your face. Love it! Lol
Hi all Great video. My wah on the axe 3 seems to disappear after I go past the 12th fret. I am using the cry baby with the settings in the video. Amp is the rectifier red modern. This problem really bugs me. Wah sounds great but in the upper registers it just disappears. Advice?
Man, I need to buy an expression pedal! That Petrucci Wah sounds insane! One question, do you get output level peaks with that extreme EQ settings in the wah? How do you compensate for that? Thank you always for your videos man, super helpful!
A distorted amp will turn the EQ peaks into greater distortion saturation at the peaky freq-ies. It's the clean amp you'd have to worry about, or if you were doing the wah after the distortion and/or amp blocks into a clean high-headroom signal chain.
You are a great teacher Leon, thanks for your videos. On another note, am I the only one thinking that the tweed pedal case could really be for a tiny travel guitar or kids guitar that you jam on in a plane, train, bus or dunny, lol

having trouble creating a whammy pedal...I did it before...not sure why I can't figure it out now....did I need to re calibrate after a firmware update? that's the only thing that would have changed since then....anybody?
@@LeonTodd thank you, superstar Leon todd!!! we were just talking about you an hour ago...I just got a 1987x plexi reissue from my friend, he's a ceriatone lover...said you got one!! They are cool, right?..p.s. this marshall doesn't suck either!! cheers and thanx for all the schooling!!! really appreciate you!!!
Hi bro! So u can use “ANY” expression pedal connected from Output via TRS cable to the Pedal 1 or 2 of FM3??? For instance a Cry baby?? Cheers from Chile Bro!!
i have this strange issue , i turned the auto engage to 95% as you said but as i was pressing to the bottom of the heel it seems like it also affecting the volume by lowering it ,any idea ? i am using the sp-1 mission pedal
ok problem solved ! the problem was in the Global menu --> Other (page) --> Output Volumes (1-4) were assigned to FC 1PEDAL 1 ......i turned them to NONE and thats it !........(i am rookie to Ax Fx 3 so shit happens ) , now time to rock on ! \m/
Leon, I have a Ernie ball volume pedal and when I calibrate it through the FC the calibrate slider on the axe Fx only moves about a 1/4 up and 1/4 down. Would you know what’s going on?
great stuff as usual Leon. I've been a wah nut for years and even though i had a fairly decent sound on the fx3 with it this really opened up so many possibilities!!!! any chance of a wah / whammy vid?? had to use 2 separate presets to get both on one scene but not the whammy one other scenes. would love to know if it can be done on the one preset if you get what i mean
Thanks for this vid Leon. Perfect timing as I was just about the dig into the Wah block on the new Axe3. Wondering if you might be able to do a similarly deep dive into setting up a volume pedal in the 3 and the umpteen ways this can be done. Cheers, Don
Thanks so much this was great!! I'll be wahing in my next recording!!
I love this tutorial. These are some of my favorite wah sounds. Thanks for sharing, Leon.
You have the best tutorials man. Thank you!
Another great tutorial! Leon your pedal board is mint, so classy lookin'.

The scowl gives you more gain :p
One of your most interesting videos Leon, loved it and in full details.
Hope you do the same with the rest of the blocks of the Axe hahaha
might need a few lifetimes for that :p Still slowly working on the Vox models!
Leon Todd shall I buy this one??

thank you so much ! the petrucci wah is amazing, even on my AXE FX 2 without the EQ!
Love the time stamp.

Amazing video Leon !!!1 thank you for share all data , the best tutorials Brother !!!
My pleasure!
Great video! Btw, you must be a Rush fan (21:12).
You know it
Excellent demo! Learned so much. Do you think you’ll ever do a filter block deep dive?
I think that needs to happen
@@LeonTodd Man, you are quick! Keep up the great work! Always look forward to new LT videos

Re-calibrate the pedal for sure. I like the classic whammy mode in the pitch block best but the advanced one is rad too.

You'll need something with a TRS jack - a crybaby won't work unfortunately

Man, is there anything that the Axe FX III can't do? I really liked the wahs in parallel sound.
Still can't get it to make coffee
@@LeonTodd maybe in the next couple of firmware updates? 😂😂
We can hope! Infusion modelling, selectable grind inputs and accurate origin behavior.
After the man in the box riff my speakers were smoking.

Hei! I don’t have any pedals but just wanted to play around with wah block. I cannot unbypass it any way. Is it normal?
Is autoengage on?
Hey! Actually I did not check it before. Thanks Leon! 😁
It’s really to bad we are not neighbors! I’d look over the fence and yell, hey Leon why does my wah sound like shit?

The volume block I need to explore some more.
💪👍💪
It's hard not to make "wah face" when using the wah, innit? :)
That Colorsound stock preset has a really round W and more of a wow than a wah vowel to it. I might have to start poking around in that one....
Next to impossible
