I was watching this video while my wife shopped next to me on her phone, she is an electrical engineer, and when you got to your diagram she started yelling at the screen the correct terms and such n such. It was rather hilarious for me. She said you owe her for the eye cancer haha

I remember a few christmases ago. My dad and I are watching the game and my wife walks in the room with her hands about 6" apart and says "how big is this, like 12" ?"
My dad, without missing a beat, says "I guess you taught her how to measure."
    True story, fuckin' hysterical.

There was a young plumber named Lee

Nifty little device. When I saw you sharpening the pencil reminded me of an exciting experiment I did when I was young. Found a neon sign transformer and made a Jacobs ladder. Had great fun sticking different things in the arc, that is until I used a pencil. Next think I knew I was at the other side if the room, I was sitting in a wheeled office chair at the time. That is when I leaned graphite is conductive. Have taken high voltage seriously ever since.

9:46 It helps to have a system for that. It may well be an (unwritten) "industry standard" thing, but input on the left, and output on the right makes most sense to me, when making (or lifting) schematics. In a similar manner, ground on the bottom and whatever supply voltages, on the top.

Exact same Sony clock radio I bought 8 years ago. Adjusts automatically for DST, has I think a 9-volt battery to keep time during power failures. Gains a few seconds a month: crystal vibrates a bit too fast?

    • @EvilGTV
      @EvilGTV 6 лет назад +1

I've got a very basic Sanyo crapper (no DST adjust) that used to gain about 5 minutes every week or two, I'd have to re-set it all the time because it'd gotten too far ahead (like half an hour or more). Was like that for about 10 years, then suddenly it stopped gaining time - haven't had to adjust it for the last couple of years. Maybe the backup battery is dead, haven't looked at that - I just enjoy not having to guess how far ahead it is when I'm still half asleep and the alarms going off.

just to eleborate for those that don't know what AvE was saying, the 2 coils are basically a transformer, but you cant transform dc because it needs an EMF that builds and collapses to induce a voltage on the other winding.
so an IGBT is used to simulate the effect of a sine wave, by turning on and off at varying rates, we call this an inverter, taking dc, and faking ac.
the reason the voltage goes up, and the current goes down, is because the power must stay the same, and Power = Voltage * Current (apparent power),
and the amount of that change is controlled by the ratio of windings, for example 2:1 would be 24 and 12 windings.
this one will be a very high ratio, like 1000:1 or more.

FYI UB: it doesn't need to be powered by an AC source to be a voltage booster. The brain box can simply switch the DC supply and feed that into the diode voltage doubler. That's how DC-DC boost converters work, too.

The pocket version has sliding electrodes with a wider gap that's perfect for top of the ear shots when there's just no room at the bar at call for last orders. The battery capacity is practically 1/5th of the flexible neck model but that's plenty enough to cause some trouble as it happens.

So, what you are saying is that it's a fire starting stun gun? Also, if we follow your schematic, the product won't work. By your left index finger @ 10:16, there is a break in the secondary coil. Which would render the coil inoperative. 😉

OK, he has it right. Where did I get the backwards idea? As a software guy, I guess I can just say it's a hardware problem and ignore it.

The noise appearing on the (AM) radio suggests the operation is at considerably higher frequency than 20 kHz. At least the harmonics must go over 500 kHz. Also, I would expect it to use a resonating capacitor, either in series or in parallel with the primary. Anyway, where could I buy one? I could check the frequency and probably work out a basic schematic. I could characterize the transformer as well.

I was researching these circuits this week for a capacitive discharge ignition system, weird timing! I think you explained it pretty well, considering!

Are you using one of those adjustable arms with spring ballast to hold the camera? I swear I can hear some spring noise coupled into the camera mic.

I got something like this but In a zippo like package and the arcs must be on different phases because there are 2 arcs that make an x rather than parallel lines.

So, I've been meaning to buy one of these just to see if they could be a quick legalish taser. Just solder on some new leads and see if you're drunk buddy will give it a ride.

Raymond Mucklow we would get shitty on a sledding run, had one buddy roll his sled halfway down the hill, rolled three times and still had his beer intact. The best types of buddy.

I think the IC is a 555 timer with the output set to square wave, I only guess this because this is the exact same as my college project that i wasn`t allowed to build.
