This film really touched me. I am 54 and remember taking parcels to school for famished Polish people back in the early 1980s when attending a Catholic school while living in Paris. I am not a Catholic but have nothing but admiration for the Polish people. Its kindness to the Ukrainian people when Putin invaded despite former atrocities committed by the Soviet Union, the Nazis and Ukraine before, during and after WWII speaks for its generosity and soul. Long live Poland, a pawn in so many bloody wars!!!

    in the 1990's,
I worked with a young lady in a South African pharmacy~ (Magda)
She & her husband fled Poland in search of a better life...
One day I walked into the department she worked in as I wanted to share a movie I watched (Shindler's List)
None the wiser I told my friend and Magda became upset,
Unknowingly I touched a nerve and stopped telling the story...
Magda said a few things that baffled me to this day
After watching this movie/ story I have the utmost respect for what she told us that day as I now understand what the Polish people went through during those times...
Magda ended up becoming a friend of mine, she and her husband moved in pursuit of a better life,
About 4 years ago I came across her again on Facebook and they are now living in Canda.
This movie was so inspiring, and I agree the Polish nation are incredible
    Thank you for this movie
    Meant the world to me

Wikipedia has a good article about this conflict and its present day repercussions. The uniforms and military equipment appear to be quite accurate, including the Renault FT tanks that France exported to eastern Europe at that time. Upon some investigation I found that most of the Eastern European and Baltic nations have large reenactment communities and I am guessing that they provided many of the extras.

This is a great movie of its time. My pass is from Poland so I am very interested what happens from this kind of time. I wish I had a collection from 1870 on wards to date, I studied much of this at Cambridge in the UK in the early 1970's before coming to the United States . My father and his brothers flew in the Battle of Britain and lasted that war? Plus I could write about other things concerning this subject. Cheers.

The movie is very patriotic and melodrama. However, some parts are not historically trustful.

      Good night gentlemen
My pass is from Poland too even if my name is austrian ( Schönborn). The father of my grand-father came by foot from a town in the south of the Carpates named Jaroslav.
My grand-father never spoke polish, and never spoke with me about his pass in its origin's country.
That is why if you can light my lantern about what happen in Poland during 1888 and 1921, I would be very gratefull to you, for example concerning political events, or social disorders, or racist unrest that coul have occured during this period.Greetings

You mean the Russians who saved the main character? They was the Don Cossacks, their cavalry units used such symbols. This is probably a remnant of the imperial army.

The dubbers erred when they used a "hard L" on the lips of the men. Hard L is for Russians and Ukrainians. Also, no need to "Hollywoodize" the film by sprinkling the F-bomb liberally.

Lenin indeed wanted conquer the whole world. He was probably smart enough to realize that that the crap pile he created (USSR) would extinct because of the influence of normal countries surrounding that crap pile of his. And he was right -that crap pile collapsed in 1991.
