    I think this type of investment is inevitable under FFP restrictions if we want to achieve the things the owners are striving for. The memories of growing up watching my team in St James' Park will never be lost by the name changing, and if it enables me to see us lift a trophy then I will accept a sponsored stadium name. If you offered me Mike Ashley back for 50 years and playing at St James' Park or winning the title and potentially champions league at the Aramco Arena, the name of the stadium wont emotionally effect me. I just want to see my beloved team continue to grow the way they have this past year, creating the same loving memories with my boys as I had under King Kev and Sir Bobby, hopefully this time with some silverware!

    As long as they keep St James Park in the name it’s no different!
    “Saudi Golf @ St James Park” is no problem at all. We get the sponsor money and it’s still referred to as St James park by all the fans. Happy middle ground👍

    Definitely a big yes from me. Together with new main sponsor next season, we could be looking at 100-150 million extra to spend on transfers, every season.

    They will do it subtly at St James Park, as they’ve seen the backlash from all the Sports Direct Arena branding. PIF have just invested $3billion in green bonds and I think they’ll go down that route at SJP with something like SJP powered by Saudi Green Initiative where they’ll put lots of money into how they’ll make it more green efficient (not just turning the lights off like Ashley). Then when they build a new training facility (and a new stadium in 10 years time) that will be named after the sponsor and again embrace all the eco stuff.

    Football stadiums will become global commercial arenas. The top teams will have commercial deals with NFL, entertainment (singers) and the latest stadiums will have the engineering to accommodate multiple projects and events. With that comes naming rights and huge commercial growth. It will also make teams worth billions.
    If we want to be elite unfortunately the days of football stadiums will be dated and nufc will look eventually to build the latest stadium to make a commercial statement.
    As fans we need to weigh up success and cups for traditional views on what a club is

    Easiest work around is to keep the name St. James's Park and just put the sponsors logo at front and end of name. The main difference is we know these owners will re- invest in the club, unlike the fcb.

    I think it's fine along as it says Saudi airways @ st James park.we all need remember since theses owners come in they've kept there promise and for us to be on the big stage with man United and real Madrid and that we need to take this leap of faith and trust what they doing is the right thing for our club. we need to meet them half way.

    As long as we keep St James’s in the game I don’t have a problem. I would also be happy sponsor deals for naming rights for the stands with a similar deal. We should also look for sponsorship for the training ground like other teams do

  • @steveningram3732
    @steveningram3732 2 года назад +3

    Name it Aramco stadium of it means pays for the new training ground or a James Maddison. It’ll still be St James to the fans. The difference from Sports Direct Arena and this is that the money will be invested back into the club and any signage will be respectful and professional. Be warned, don’t hold the club back from owners who actually want NUFC competing with the best in Europe or you may lose Bruno to Madrid.

    IF the name change makes it 'something at St James Park' or if it changes completely to 'Acme Corp Stadium' for example, it makes no difference as everyfan will still call the stadium St James Park, it'll only be the TV, Radio and written media that would call it by its new name.

    Don't mind having a name change if it helps the club go forward and compete going forward if its something @st James Park the its nothing and if the whole name changes then at the end of the day it will always be St James Park to the fans

    I'd be happy with a (sponsor name) @ St James Park, as long as the name doesn't completely change, if Mike did this with sports direct I'd have had no issue with it either (obviously as long as the money went into the club, which it clearly wouldn't have under Mike), it's a nice middle ground and can bring a lot of cash our way.

    It could be saudia st. james park sounds nice mates, or anyways if the saudi pif changes the name of the stadium totally then who cares I mean they're the new owners and can do whatever they wish for of course only for the best of newcastle united, a perfect example is arsenal they went from the legendary highbury to building a new stadium and naming it emirates or man city naming theirs etihad airways so in European football everything is business and marketing now and the new sponsorships for the magpies are going to be massive for building new training ground,investing in the academy, maybe even building a new stadium with more capacity for the geordies, and of course signing top level elite players that will take the magpies to compete in UEFA champions league and maybe even winning one or two like Abramovich did with chelsea when he was owner,true newcastle fan as me and more fans all over the world will never forget the historical name of St. James Park but I think it's time for the black and white to move forward onto the bright future perspective with the Saudi pif group,amanda staveley and mehrdad ghodoussi,howay the lads⚫⚪🇸🇦😀🤑❤💙👏👍👌

    What the owner need to do?
    1: Meet the fans and have a proper discussion on the situation.
    2: leave the name St James park in with the new sponsor.
    3: Don’t pepper the stadium with a load of signs.
    To us fans it will always be called St James park. and they won’t stop us from calling it St James park.

    If we want the investment, move up the league and continue to grow its inevitable. At the end of the day they own the club and I trust them as they havent done us wrong at the minute. I'm a fan but they actually own the club, they are responsible for the money side of things and to be honest they should be able to do what they want, with the money they have pumped in and will continue to do so with further investment.

    It’s inevitable that it’s going to happen. St James’ Park powered by ……… suggests the sponsor is fuelling the success of the club, which of course it would be, so I think that’s the best way of setting it out. Selling the naming rights however, should be linked with reducing ticket pricing for fans aswell as generating money for players, that way everyone’s a winner.

    “Saudi James’ Park” 😂😂😂 I mean playing devil’s advocate, there is one major difference and that’s: Ashley wouldn’t reinvest the money and our new owners will. But, there’s no need to panic, they will run it by the fans first. No willy nilly decisions. We’ll see what happens and what they have in mind in terms of “partnership”. It’s a loaded and vague term. Genuine in their reason for this to comply with ffp and benefit the club as a whole. Unlike Ashley's thinly veiled attemp to sell naming right as an excuse to incorporate shit direct into stadium name.

  • @fenham
    @fenham 2 года назад

    Realistically I suppose for the sake of commerce add reluctantly support name change of some form. Saint James Park is synonymous with Newcastle united. However, should there be a construction of a new ground which is not likely to be either on the same site as present or in the centre of town, then that would not be called St James’s Park wherever it cited so a name change in the future is highly probable.
    For my 50+ years of support of the Toon, St James Park and Newcastle United are almost interchangeable but in these days of commercial realism and FFP it’s a case of do we want to be more successful or do we want to stagnate?
    I’d like to see some success before I kick the bucket.

I think if a name change brings us the cash and satisfies ffp rules where we can actually spend the cash, then go for it. Remember, nobody called it anything other than st James park even when it was sports house of direct Fraser stadium or whatever shite he tried to brand it. 🤣. The club is going places, and the only way to do that is to move with the times, let the owners do what they need to do so they can invest further in us. Everyone wins. Old Trafford, Anfield, Stamford Bridge... identity. Some things should be untouched. I Don’t give a crap about the money for a sponsor - explore every other area yes and put up sponsors on the stands yes - but identity is non-negotiable for me. And for those saying it will always be known as SJP - 1) a company won’t pay money and not push for the ground to always be referred to as them 2) after a generation has been and gone, the name SJP will be gone with them
    “We wanna win everything” I assure you, after trophies have been won, you only have identity left and if that’s eroded, it will feel hollow.

    No matter what st James parks name is on paper. We’ll still call it st James. If it brings money in to help us prosper, they can call it whatever.

    If they learned anything about Ashley the re-naming of St James Park was one of his biggest fuck ups and this will be the new regimes first big mistake. You make the ground name a brand in itself.

      Absolutely no comparison like. Would have been far different if Ashley got a proper sponsor for the stadium and invested the revenue into the playing squad

    Change the stadium name...then why not change the traditional black and white strip, then why not move to a new stadium..does it have to be in Newcastle/Tyneside not really ...does it have to be called Newcastle United..not really. Where will it end ? Would you sell your soul for success...some might.

    As long as they keep Newcastle United in the name I will be happy. Why, because I have three tattoos with Newcastle United in them.

    I could put up with the stadium being called something else but please get some good money, it will always be st James to me no matter what it’s called .
