    For me, the best part is that Disney will likely have the business sense to hire good talent for the film franchise, like they have shown hiring J.J. Abrams as director and Lawrence Kasdan, the writer made Lucas' dialogue in Empire and Jedi so great to listen to. Remember, the prequel tilogy suffered because Lucas' artistic ego wouldn't let him delegate as a producer.

    There's a rumor that Darth Vader will make an appearance in the next Star Wars film. Considering that all but 2 of Vader's actors are still alive/working in film, I can't wait to see Force Ghost or Holocron Vader appear.

    None of those things make money.
    A company is not a person with affection for old traditions, it is a company. If a company is even seen to be making 'bad business decisions' then tumbling share prices could ruin it.

    I was also surprised as to how this was kept secret for so long. I'm more worried about Star Wars properties outside the Disney umbrella (I.E. the comics from Dark Horse and the Clone Wars on CN) will suffer the same fate as the Disney titles from Boom Studios. I am hoping that a) once Fox loses the rights to the original movies, we'll get the unedited versions on Blu-ray without the remastered hoopla from previous releases and b) Disney will learn from the mistakes of the prequels for VII-IX.

    one thing no one seems to keep thinking of is the other side of the coin on this, now that Disney owns Lucasart game devision, they now have legal presidence to make movies based on they're IP's most noteably Return to Monkey island which if done in CG could probably end up being Disneys new Pirates franchise to milk with its bigger pull twords comedy.

    I don't really think there is an actress who could play her and to be honest they would probably write her all wrong. She would be put through the studio script tenderiser and come out as some sort of Lara Croft in space or even worse some sort of "bad girl who just needs saving". I'm hoping these new movies don't mess with the expanded universe characters at all to be honest. I'd like to see them focus on the really obscure characters.

    • @BeeCreates929
      @BeeCreates929 9 лет назад +4

      ChunkNinja In all fairness, the Star Trek films sucked because he just wanted to make Star Wars sooo so badly, his little fanboy heart couldn't take it.
      But yeah, I am not an Abrams fan. He has yet to prove he can make anything that is genuinely good all the way to the end and his little cutesy-poo Mystery Box concept is stupid, and he genuinely killed any semblance of respect he had for Star Trek... so let's see.

    • @BenCulture
      @BenCulture 8 лет назад

      +ChunkNinja I thought he handled the 2009 Trek nicely. Into Darkness was fucking repulsive, though, and I have no intention of even SEEING Beyond. So he's a one-movie guy. TFA turned out to be a mixed bag, but there was a lot I liked about it. Now it's someone else's turn at bat. I'm fine with that.

    • @ChunkNinja
      @ChunkNinja 8 лет назад +1

      Ben Culture Agreed. I recently saw TFA and it was actually pretty good. None of the usual JJisms that make me hate his other films.

      +parker friend (jet) I think a lot more people like the prequels than they're really letting on.
      I'm honestly of two minds about it. If I have to pick a side, I will argue that they suck. But left to my own devices, I will eventually watch them again because they're just plain beautiful to look at. Nothing deeper than that, just a pleasure for the eyes. Still very flawed, but not without artistic value.

  • @TollingBells

    I don't know why it was very shocking at all. Lucasfilms has been associated with Disney for quite a while now, at least at the parks. Remember Star Tours? Indiana Jones the ride? The Star Wars weekends? That all happened years before the buyout.

  • @InnSewerAnts

    I think, and this shows in behind the scenes, that the main reason the original trilogy was good wasn't lucas, it was that then his cast and crew wasn't afraid to say george that idea of yours is crap how about .. instead. With the second trilogy he was too dominant, people didn't dare speak up. I'm glad it's out of his hands. Hell george wanted solo to be a weird comic relief alien in the first trilogy but the people around him thought it was crap and came up the one we know. Sound familiar?

    Like Bob, I'm actually excited about this takeover.
    I mean, I hate toi repeat what he's said in the video, but Disney has had considerable success when they took over the Muppets and Marvel comics. And do I even need to mention Pixar?
    At the very least we'll have Star Wars being made with new people, new writers, a fresh perspective on the story, which is something that's been lacking for some time now.
    This could actually be the best thing that's happened to Star Wars for a long time.

    Only Expanded universe for Star Wars I care about is Mara Jade and the video games. As long as the movies don't chuck THAT out the window, I don't care. Why? besides being unnecessarily grimdark as f**k, all they really did is rehash the original trilogy. Oh, ANOTHER long-hidden, long-forgotten Sith Empire conquers the galaxy? And has a cow-the-populace-with-fear superweapon that can annihilate planets? And there's a new ragtag rebel alliance? With Luke's descendant and R2 in the same roles!?

    :/ I watched the avengers at the cinema... I didn't like it. I never really liked super heroes, so maybe I'm bias, but it just seemed like an excuse for money made from explosions... there wasn't much good story telling.
    My bias maybe clouding my vision, so I really don't know how to feel about this... I heard that Obi-wan supposedly has a grand-kid and the others have children who will be the main characters, but I don't know how they will take this.
    If they try to bring back the jedi, I can see it working as they are restoring balance, but if star wars is just that, it will get boring, the same way it will get boring if it becomes what it says on the tin and just becomes an excuse for space explosions, like the avengers.
    I won't judge until I watch the first film, but I hope they don't ruin my childhood... or I might turn into Tim from "Spaced" in the episode 2.2 "Change" in which he screams at children for having a difference of opinion over new characters in the new star wars movies that suck in comparison to the original trilogy...
