The times that I have visited Puerto Rico, the food has never disappointed me... I love their roast pork, pasteles and mofongo. I also love their tropical drinks.
That’s what I’m cooking for Christmas, my mom makes some bomb ass pasteles and I make the arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas), ensalada de papas (potato salad), pernil (roast pork), amarillitos (fried sweet plantains). My parents from Dominican Republic and my brother and me born and raised in Puerto Rico so we had the best of both world’s.
When I went to Puerto Rico, I had Mofongo (as a bowl) with shredded pork and barbecue sauce as the filling. It was RIDICULOUSLY good. My current gf is half Puerto Rican- and she always says “Adobo on everything is key!”🔑
My mother is from Puerto Rico, and I remember going to visit as a child and having Lechon. It have yet to find pork that is as good, and I used to live in South Louisiana and now in Houston which is a food town. RIP Anthony, I agree!
I feel the same paisano. One thing though is that we are not a race lol. We are an ethnic group comprised of different races. Carlos Ponce is white but his ethnicity is Puerto Rican for example.

Im a Mexican from Chicago that grew up in Humboldt Park a very Puerto Rican area my friends loved to come to my house for Mexican food and I loved eating Puerto Rican food at their homes. I make pasteles with my friends all I can say is that they are a labor of love in making them! I had moved away from the area many years ago. A few years ago I moved somewhat back in my old area. We live in Mecca of food area I love it here everywhere there are a variety of Latino grocery stores. And many places to eat but the best part is the large a great amount and variation of Puerto Rican restaurants it's awesome! I love tostones with garlic dipping sauce😍 Try on a cold day a bowl of chicken soup with mofongo placed in the middle is so delicious and comforting. OMG the Jibarito plantain and meat sandwich with spicy mayo aioli is just awesome!!! Thanks guys for showing and discovering new and very traditional dishes.
Puerto Rican food looks so good. I wish it was more widely available here in Canada. Maybe I'll need to look up some recipes online and just learn how to make it myself.
My lovely Puerto Rico. The food is AMAZING! My husband won’t eat from anyone else once he started to eat my food lol Just try it at home. Trust is very easy and there’s 2 main things that is a must for our food. That’s ADOBO and RECAITO or SOFRITO along with the basics which are garlic, oregano, onion powder, Sazon and you put that ish on everything.
Soy Boricua and I love all of our food! My top favs are alcapurria, surrullo,morcilla, Aroz con gandules, and platanos! Omg I will eat it all!!! Lol 😂 😋 ❤️ 🇵🇷
To give my answer to your question if Puerto Rico food is known? I would answer no. Personally, I am a "food dude" and I have seen some Puerto Rican food segments and every time just like with this vid: WOW! I am convinced that there exists many places when it comes to food that are 100% under the radar

I love pernil and pasteles I'm in Florida and have to order them from n.y. there are no puerto 🇵🇷 restraunts around here. I love rice and beans my mom was from the Island and I miss her cooking.looking forward to trying monfongo one day!!
Lechonera Figueroa la descubrí cuando trabaje en el Sur Oeste después de Huracán Maria. Comí alrededor de 4-5 veces ahi. Nunca me decepcionó. Pero mi sorpresa fue cuando uno de los días trajeron una bandeja de Tostones de PANA acabados de hacer... OMG 😳 un sueño!!!!! La recomiendo al 100%. Y como dice el vídeo negocio familiar... exelente variedad de comida!!! Servicio rápido también. !!! Buen video!!!!
This is as local as it gets, mofongo is one of my favorite Puertorican dishes, theres a few mofongo spots in NYC, but the ones in PR are better, the lechon looked amazing too, especially with arroz con gandules.

My wife is from Fahaldo. I've been blessed with Puerto Rican food . We will be in San Juan soon and want some good local food. Been through la Perla and ran into some nice people. She spoke Spanish, so we had no issues.
the Best Lechon in Guavate was when they had no restaurants and a little old man roasted the pig on open charcoal selling it under a tree, only locals traveling the old road had the luxury to enjoy it. Guavate's Secret.

Also the rice he was talking about that it's the most common around Christmas (Or the holidays) it's rice with pigeon peas... And yes, that and pork it's probably the most traditional dish here.

Yes. The Dishes are very carefully prepared. Trust me. I know. The Christmas Pasteles are considered like a delicacy. Especially elaborate to prepare. Definitely worth the effort.
I love, love, love mofongo and lechon asado. I get mofongo with lechon asado inside and cuerito. Am just dying here thinking about it. I have live in New York for 50 years and I've only found 2 places here that do it good. But I want to go to Puerto Rico and eat the REAL thing. Love my beautiful island. 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷

I would recommend to you learn to do sofrito wich is like a paste wich add a lot of flavour to food like habichuelas or soups if you do pr style food

So glad you got to enjoy our food! I'm super hungry now lol. When you asked him what makes our food distinctive I'd say it's flavor! It's all in the seasoning! We don't shy away from it! Also the rice he was talking about that it's the most common around Christmas (Or the holidays) it's rice with pigeon peas... And yes, that and pork it's probably the most traditional dish here.
Arroz con gandules, pasteles, lechón, alcapurrias. Delicious! With a side salad for balance 😂🤗🇵🇷

Yes. The Dishes are very carefully prepared. Trust me. I know. The Christmas Pasteles are considered like a delicacy. Especially elaborate to prepare. Definitely worth the effort.

I love, love, love mofongo and lechon asado. I get mofongo with lechon asado inside and cuerito. Am just dying here thinking about it. I have live in New York for 50 years and I've only found 2 places here that do it good. But I want to go to Puerto Rico and eat the REAL thing. Love my beautiful island. 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
