  • It was meant to be a tidy up of the block and bolt on a few new parts such as injectors, water pump, idlers and glow plugs etc. But a few things have gone wrong and now, I will be up for a full rebuild. What went wrong?? This episode will detail what I have done to get to this point and things to look out for when servicing any diesel, in particular the Toyota 1VD-FTV.
This engine will be used in an upcoming series where I place a V8 Turbo Diesel into my 1993 Toyota Landcruiser 80 series - a conversion that has only been done a handful of times. Make sure you subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss out on the build updates.
Skillo's Shed is a vlog that follows my journey as a backyard restorer and allows me to share what I am learning along the way and the mistakes I make in order to show you, that anyone can have a crack at car restorations (if they have the patience!). Mu brain kicks straight into ‘is there a way around it’ mode.
Parts are less likely to fall into the chambers if you roll the motor onto it’s side almost upside down.
There are specialized glow plug extractor kits available from Repco etc…. The problem is that common.
You may have thought of these already😉

Yeah have mate, but I was in two minds about pulling the heads off anyway…so this has just locked me into it. Can use the money for that tool toward the machining 😂. Such a pain but I’ll then have basically a new engine (save for doing the bottom end)

ive been there, and done that, with different engines. i feel your pain. i snapped a a plug in my vdj 200 v8, i thought, fuck it. i,m not pulling the engine down. it starts and runs fine on 7 plugs. but you,ve broken more, i would have gone and
    got drunk.

@@skillosshed oh, one more thing. i had an injector get loose and cause damage, so i checked the other injector hold down bolts and 5 were out of torque spec.. there's only one small bolt per/injector. i recommend checking them.

Hey Mate, Where did you get the bottom end specs from? I have a Haynes manual but it does not have the specs and measurements for the crank, bores, pistons etc...

Nah I didn’t measure anything on bottom end…just an eyeball. Not sure where those specs are
