Lived across the street (127 Monterey Ave.) for a few years in the 80s. Saw every movie they showed. Miss the Tola mightily.

I grew up across the street on lawn way. Man do I have memories of the Cap theater. When they tore it down we actually got a group or 4 or 5 seats, but didn’t know what to do with them and eventually got rid of them.

I cant even remember how many movies I saw at that theater. I lived up near the new library, and we spent many summers at the beach. Those often included a visit to the theater. So many memories.

Now a parking lot. I am sure people will have fond memories of the parking lot in the future.

I think the projectionists union forbade showing anyone how to run those projectors; who was not a member!

Audrey mentions “the original Airplane” movie. And says that it starred Bettie Davis. That appears to be incorrect. It did include Ethel Merman an actress from the same era.

Double bills for 2 bucks. $1.25 for a "steak sandwich." Easy to smuggle beer into. I saw "The Road Warrior" and "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" one, wonderful night. The place was magic.

I went many times as a teenager, in the 60s and70s did not know its gone, brings a tear to my eye. We all knew a couple of old ladies owned it and ran it .an institution.

Ah man. I left Capitola in 2000 after living there 35 yrs. I didnt know they tore it down. I saw many a movie there in the 70s n 80s. The concessions were always way affordable as was the ticket prices.
Man, they've torn down a lot of stuff that gave Tola its charm. 😠
