      Following them for some years now, as one day I got so fed up with some male techtesters showing closup shots of dirty, chewed off fingernails - I for some time preferred videos of female reviewers. And found Nada & her team (think it's her husband) to produce excellent reviews - esp for SSDs. And as fellow Europeans they also at least mention the energy aspect, which is more relevant with our higher energy costs (which luckily went back to an acceptable price by now). But they also go into other detailes like the fact, that the high-end NVidia cards have two video-decoders, which I only heared in Techtester's review.
      Good for the tech-community Nada stopped torturing people and became a tech-tester 😉

    Paul nailed it; air cooling has gotten good enough to make liquid cooling unnecessary and not worth the downsides for most builds. As long as the CPU isn't thermal throttling, it's cool enough, and lowering the temperature of a CPU that isn't thermal throttling will not make it faster. OCing might make it faster, and that would benefit from liquid cooling, but with today's CPUs, you're better of leaving them stock. If you need more CPU performance, buy a better CPU. And a better air cooler.

    • @Reeceline
      @Reeceline 4 месяца назад +4

      The truth is, it isn't just that air coolers have gotten better. There's been a whole leap forwards in terms of cases with far better airflow to give CPU coolers a boost!

    • @Alex-zi1nb
      @Alex-zi1nb 4 месяца назад +11

      Air cooling has always been enough. Water was nothing but enthusiasts being enthusiasts- even over clocked there was never a massive difference bc just water cooling you can never hit lower than ambient anyways. Aios are just making it easier for consumers to spend extra hundreds of dollars

    • @UnderageBeerHere

      In theory, would this new Thermalright be able to keep up with a 7950x that is only running stock? The numbers make me thing yes, as long as you're not doing anything batsh*t crazy even though you're running stock, but everyone talking about air coolers this good still make it sound like a CPU like the 7950x wouldn't be able to survive without thermal throttling at stock setting.

    • @rangersmith4652
      @rangersmith4652 4 месяца назад +1

      @@UnderageBeerHere Finding out might be worth the modest price. I suspect it will be fine, and if it isn't, you buy an AIO and still have a very good backup for the day the AIO fails.

      @andrewt9204 4 месяца назад +2

      @@UnderageBeerHere I have the DeepCool AK620 on my 7950X. It thermal throttles on all-core workloads on a well ventilated case. The problem with AMD is their thick IHS.
      You really need close to ambient cold plates to reach those higher all-core boost clocks, which heat pipe air coolers cannot quite do since they rely on evaporation, even if the boiling point is very low in their vacuum environment.

    Just wanted to come back and thank you for suggesting the Phantom Spirit 120 EVO Air Cooler. Just got it installed and it definitely does a great job keeping my 5800X cool, idle temps are now around 39C when they used to be 68C. The one thing I would caution people is check your clearances, this just BARELY fits into my Cooler Master NR600 mid tower case. There is about 18cm from the motherboard to front glass panel, after adjusting the front fan up a bit to clear the RAM it sits at 17.8cm. I guess I could put the front fan on the back of the cooler since the VRM's are much lower, but not sure how efficient it would be pulling the air through the cooler instead of blowing it through. Thanks again for the suggestion, works great and was really easy to install.

    Was never a fan of liquid cooling stuff but I respect those who use one. I always just think silent fans are more practical than aio. The 4080 noctua gpu proves the technology is there. The only issue is gpu makers dont sell their gpus the same as cpu. In CPU you can easily buy and install the heat sinks and fans.
    It would be great if we can buy a GPU with a good heat sink included and no additional fans and casing designs. you can just easily place 3 Noctua fans on it and youre good to go. Currently you can mod the gpus but thats a different task and your warranty might be voided.

      I have been VERY happy with air cooling, running a 5800X paired with a 3070 and the only time I had temp issues was right after my build before I had a chance to undervolt the CPU. I was getting swings over 90* under load. Once I undervolted I've been running for the most part in the 50*-70* range and under the heaviest loads CPU temp swings up to 83* (thermal throttle is 85*) so I run at a consistent 4.6-4.8 GHz. This is at ambient temps of 72*-82* F with a Scythe Fuma 2 Heat Sink and a Meshify C case with Noctua case fans. My 3070 is OC'd to just over 2 GHz and runs about 80*-81* under heavy load (thermal throttle is 83*).

Basically i have the same case and motherboard from when I originally built a Ryzen 1400, rx 570 system (good old am4). The 5600 was getting around 80 degrees and also causing the gpu temp to rise. The mentality of every employer having to "get everyone back into the office" is stupid. People don't work better, or more productively when they have someone breathing down their neck, when they are micromanaged or when they lose another 10 hours of their life to commuting and even LESS money in their pockets. This is a management problem, and a trust problem, not a people problem. Yes this is general, it's never going to be a one size fits all, but I've seen it time and time again, AND experienced it myself. Through 2020 and 2021 lockdowns, I was able to still significantly grow business, get more leads, receive more orders, and do all of my necessary tasks remotely. Yet I was forced back into an office, a place where I was bullied, uncomfortable and only ever had my time wasted with stupid meetings. 7800x3D: 30-40 watts in game, it's so efficient even a stock wraith prism cooler would be enough. I got an AK620 which is very good value for the money and it's probably overkill. But there are a lot of great air coolers at really good prices right now, and you don't have to worry about a pump failing. Fan stops working after 5 years? Well, that's a $10 fix (or less).

    • @i_grok_u2902

      I went the same with my 7800x3d..the AK620 is very much overkill. OCed stress test= gets up to~78 or so after 5 minutes.

      A stock cooler with that CPU isn't enough in fact. But you're correct that a good air cooler, such as the Thermalright one mentioned, will do a good job with that CPU.

    • @KonglomeratYT
      @KonglomeratYT 3 месяца назад

      @@ObakuZenCenter I have a 7800X3D too. You're lying, or ignorant. This thing needs to be intentionally stressed to run at half of its TDP. A stock AMD spire/prism is rated to handle the actual wattages it uses. The thermalright coolers are beyond overkill. Under a CPU-heavy gaming workload that sort of cooling keeps mine at less than 140 at 2/3rd fan speed. This thing is rated for 192. Clearly you need to be educated in what a "fact" is.

    I've never heard of an air cooler leaking liquid, but there are plenty of cases of liquid cooling making a mess like that. My brain doesn't want to go there. I think it is good to see tower coolers improve and of course it is good for the end user to see Noctua get a little competition.

    Funny thing is that there's actually still liquid in just about any good "air" cooler, inside the copper heat pipes, there's just no pump, and everything is welded in, making it very unlikely to leak, and they don't really require any maintenance aside from being cleaned every once in a while, and having the fans replaced when they eventually fail, which could easily take more than a decade with good quality fans.
