What kind of fiberglass cloth did you use?
I use this product:
Nansheng 8 Oz. Fiberglass Fabric Cloth Mesh, 39" x 5 Yards, Fiberglass Mat Material Roll Woven Roving for Tub Shower Boat Pool Repair (48.75 Sq.Ft.)
how long did this fiberglassing thing take?
From my experience 3 days. One day to prepare the boat and cut the fiberglass. On another day glue the fiberglass with epoxy. After a day of waiting, the surface should be sanded. It can be shortened to two days by combining the preparation and the gluing stage.
Did you saturate the plywood first before laying up the glass? I am a bit confused with some of the videos around saying this is needed. Please clarify. thanks
Hello
Epoxy fiberglass and wood connect very well to each other.
It is very important to glue the fiberglass with a sufficient amount of epoxy to connect them well to the wood.
Therefore, it is recommended to impregnate the wood with a layer of epoxy before placing the fiberglass.
I don't wait for the epoxy to dry and immediately lay down the fiberglass.
Looking good! I am thinking about building the bigger version of the boat (4.8m) this summer. What are you planning on using as a mast? Are you going to build or buy?
Thanks. To your question about the mast, I have already built it in wood. Below is the link to a video on this topic:
