It's becoming less and less of a secret that there's no love lost between Pep Guardiola and João Cancelo.
Cancelo has added fuel to the fire by calling out Pep Guardiola and claiming that he has lied with comments in the past as Cancelo left Manchester City to join Bayern Munich on loan, before eventually joining Barcelona on loan.
What does this mean for Cancelo and his footballing future? Surely his time at Manchester City is over?

I’m old school. For me, a defender should be able to defend 1st then attack etc. Absolutely love Ake from his cool calm and collect demeanor on the pitch, to his ability (when playing as a LB and not left wingback) stick to his mark like white on rice. But my favorite quality about Ake is his character. Remember when we bought him from Bournemouth and he ride the bench for a long time and then Chelsea wanted him but Ake said no, he wanted to fight for his spot in MC squad? And when he did get in, he was outstanding. Absolutely love that - the very definition of perseverance and never give up attitude

He was a good player but he came across as being very moody so I wouldn't have him back.
If true, Cancelo's reported actions can never be defended, but Cancelo is not the first player, or staff, to fall out with Pep and call him a liar. Pep is the best manager of his generation (maybe ever?) and the boss, but the players he has fallen out with include: Ibrahimovich, Eto, Pique, Messi (well known in Catalonia, but not widely reported), Muller, Kroos, Ribery, pretty much the entire medical, physio, and senior admin at Bayern Munich. It's not a one off, but hey, it's all part of elite level sport.
Regardless, Pep largely changed the formation and tactics for Haaland anyway and won the treble. No need for Cancelo, even if everything was all roses.

If you look at Cancelo’s career, he almost had a new club every season till he landed at city! Tells you all you need to know, he left, we won the treble, that must have stung him big time🤣 also in his interview he says “I like to keep things to myself” whilst giving an interview slating the club manager, and evening dragging teammates into it! Cancelo ( a great player by the way ) thought he was bigger than the club and believed he should be first on the team sheet and nobody including Debruyn , Harlaand and Foden can even guarantee that , I'm glad he's gone

Dennis Tueart had a decent return stint at City, before your time Jonny, but that is the only one I can remember.

Cancelo is arguably world class, he’s 29 years old, and he’s never made it stick at one of the top clubs he’s been at. I think he’ll be joining his 8th club in the summer? Wonder why so many big clubs were willing to part ways with him?

My friend I think but he’s making it so hard on himself to get the attention that he wants both backfiring on him. I can see why Cancelo was unhappy with his treatment. He is a right back asked to do a job at left back which he did to a high standard. He had his deficiencies in defense but like Trent at Liverpool, he made up for it with his attacking play. Some of the goals and assists he created was sublime. But when Walker got injured Pep didn't shift him over to right back. Instead he was asked to play as a right wing and had Lewis ahead of him in the pecking order. His issue was that he didn't want to sit on the bench and have an academy player play in his preferred position ahead of him.
Cant be easy to handle and everyone does not succeed suppressing disappointment.

I try to be fair and balanced so here’s my take: Cancelo was outstanding for us for several seasons and then for whatever reason (probably lack of game time, but that’s the case for nearly every player in a Pep team), he began acting in a non-professional manner which most likely (as it often does) made things even worse. Can Pep be tough to deal with? I’m sure he can be. Show me a manager who’s not been tough and I’ll show you a manager who’s won nothing.
Before the liar accusations came out, I was rather ambivalent on my opinion of Cancelo - sometimes players and managers have a falling out. But to publicly call him a liar is a bridge too far and exemplifies an utter lack of respect and professionalism. That said, I appreciate what Cancelo did for the club in the past, but I’m happy he is gone.

@@darrenwarby32 In the years he was Pep’s go-to? He was pretty good defensively. Yes his attack was better, but he wasn’t a mess. From my recollection (I could be wrong) it really wasn’t until Cancelo started complaining about game time etc that his form went to hell. What do you think?

Now made his return in summer, when Barca offer a bag of jelly babies, impossible reducing his value to fuck all. Transparent behaviour now totally burnt his bridges.
