Solid production quality. Fun to watch. Nice work all around!
I'm originally from southwestern Pa. I'm older now and live in southern Indiana. When I watch your videos it brings back memories of my younger days, fishing with my dad and brothers. Opening day as I remember was always exciting! Loved those days walking various streams up around Ligoner Pa area. Love your videos and the content you bring to the channel. Thanks for the experience!
Thank you! We appreciate that, it’s always about the memories!
I started learning how to fly fish this week and I'm loving every time I'm able to pull out my fly gear
I spent 20years in Vermont. Did a lot of stream / river fishing. Browns, Rainbows, Brookies. Gorgeous land and gorgeous fish !
Wonderful short film guys!! Right up there with Carpe Deim👌 thanks for taking me along for the commradare and spiritual journey. Time for me to load up the VW and head out to Warn PA for some of the same thing. Keep it up and maybe slide a family outing with the kids. Share the love and choose Joy
Great video. I’m 55 now but when growing up my friends and I would camp out every year for opening day of trout in PA. Great memories. Love all your videos.
Thank you!
Fantastic film guys, this channel deserves to be bigger. You guys absolutely make art for fly fishing videos and show what it’s really all about.
Appreciate that!
Cool video, can’t wait to get up to the driftless region this year. Need to make it back out to PA sometime, fished the letort years ago. That stream was some tough but fun water to fish.
Wow Congrats on the Video!! Glad to see people still fishing the Native creeks. I live in western PA and fish local but when my son was young we Fished northern PA and we always hit the native creeks for Native Brookies and native Rainbows. Glad to see you guys Fly fishing.
Thank you!
Awesome video! It makes my day when I check RUclips and see that Allegheny natives has a new video uploaded!
Appreciate that!! Thanks for watching!
Western Pennsylvanian born and raised. This brings back great memories. Great channel guys!
Thank you!
What a good idea to bring the cook with you when you go on a early morning fly fishing opening day. Now i'm watching the video.
Absolutely!
There are two speices of native trout that stand out, the volcano creek golden trout in the sierra Nevada mountain range . I used to pack into golden trout wilderness and my first golden was the most beautiful colored trout speices imaginable. Pennsylvania has the other one, the brook trout. Truly a magnificent wild fish with it's colors and cream tipped fins. Your videos reflect your love of pristine places and respect of our environment. Thanks!!
Thank you!! They sure are amazing fish!
Great video! Your adventure on Opening Day reminds me of the Opening Days I spent with my Dad and brother.
Thank you!
Congrats on a beautiful opener. It's great to be out with a buddy or two and then have a fish or two thrown in. Great photography, thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
A man after my own heart. Fly rod in one hand, tobacco pipe in the other. Central Pennsylvanian here, fantastic video. Subscribed. 👍🏻
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing folks. Enjoying the videos, be safe out there on the water.
Thank you! You too!
You guys are lucky. Opening day here in Michigan isn’t until the last Saturday in April and I can’t wait!! Great video as usual!
Thanks Travis!
Great video showing how awesome it is to live here and and share these experiences with others! 👍🏻🍜
Thank you!

Absolutely!
What a great opening couple of days . Good times on the water.
Absolutely!
Ahhhh....you know I love the brookies!! Great job guys!
Haha thanks Paul!
Yeah , we open all year now here in Cali.
Cheers!
Just stumbled on your channel mate. Loving it, wish I found it sooner. G’day from Australia.
Nice tradition and video! Love PA fishing! Every day is opening day in Colorado
Thank you!
Nice work guys 👍 Great video throughout with great camera work and editing! Love the small streams , you get rewarded with beautiful native brooks! Tight lines
Thank you!
Just Subscribed. Our camp is close by Forest County. Going up this weekend to fish Salmon creek. In the Heart of Allegheny National Forest. Gods Country. Thank you for your efforts and taking us along with you.
I'll be there Wednesday
Awesome! We have a camp up there, have fished salmon creek before 👍🏼
Amazing editing guys, this looks like a high value documentary at the start.
Thank you!
Great video! I really love watching you boys fish!
Thank you!
Like the pipe, my great grandfather used to puff on one all the time
Amazing video. Very nice once again. Thank you very much for this beautiful video Guys ! Sheers from France.
Thank you!
Awesome video. We are your south “Allegany” (md) natives. Next year I’m going to attempt to go with my brother and experience a PA opening day.
Thank you! Definitely a great time!
Nice work guys. Fun to watch!
Thank you!
I definitely have to build me a 3 wt rod. I have tried that line you guys are using and it’s great but I need the sensitivity in the rod too! Great video guys!
We generally use 2 weights! Love a good sensitive rod
Ah, no wonder you can feel those beautiful brookies! Well, I have a mission 😉
Beautiful spot
A beautiful fish to catch I've only caught 1 wild or born wild brown and one born in hatchery supported water bow im working my way to them native Appalachian brookies
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Much respect to the gentleman smoking a pipe AND fly fishing. I do both as well, but not at the same time. To smoke a pipe AND fly fish takes great skill in both disciplines. I'd prob drop my pipe in the water or have to keep relighting focusing too much on the fishing.
Haha for sure!
Great footage!!
thanks for the video guys, keep it up.
Thank you!
Another nice video, thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks!
Great video. I appreciate your videos for not being all about catching fish, although that is great also - LOL.
Haha thank you!
Awesome stream! Reminds me of back when around you guys age , camping from Thur night through Sunday for 1st weekend PA try. Up Rock Run, Lycoming Co. trib of Lycoming Crick. A Very steep boulder filled wild stream. But they also stock it with Browns & Brooks. My PB lifetime 14” Brooky I caught way up top at about 19yo. Intended to mount it But my brother came home late one night and Cooked it❗️ Its a top-shelf trout stream for sure.
Thanks for sharing! Love spending time up there!
Great work . Guys👊👍
Thanks Frankie!
Fantastic as usual...hey fellas, or Joel in particular, what kind of fly line are ya using...a blind guy like me could see it!!!
Is like to know also
It’s called OPST lazar line, works great for nymphing, not great for throwing dries. Very sensitive!
Well what a beautiful day, you start it at 25 and you finish it in short sleeves with some nice catch all day. Thank's again for your nice footage as always. Her in Quebec, opening day on the 23rd, they daily it this year, dont ask me why, the virus wont be gone in 23 days.
You should says delay frenchy.
Thanks for watching!
amazing quality keep it up!
Great video!! Y'all makin me miss Elk County!! There is nothing like hiking through hemlocks and mountain laurel!! Thank you!!!
Thank you!
Its great to see someone with a 2wt rod. Any suggestions on a good 2wt line all i have found is big box store brand.
Love the 2 weight! I actually pair mine though with 5 weight line, really like the way it performs
Where is this at? My brothers want to start a yearly fishing trip for just the guys and we want to goto PA.
Love the video! Western PA native myself and this brings back some great memories. Also random question, what were the wading pants the one guy was wearing?
Thank you! And they are DRYFT wading pants
Cool pipe and gun dude
Most excellent 👌👏
I'm definitely ready to drown a fly.
Great filming
Thanks!
Good video fellows. Long live the Green Weenie! Tightlines!!
Thank you!
Missed opening day this year. I'll have to make up for it over the next few weeks! Lovely video.
Thank you!
Sweet video! What rod are you using at 4:40? Struggling to find any variation on smaller rods. Usually just echo, butter stick, and sage dart.
Thanks! We use 10’ 2 and 3 weights!
Your guys production quality is so sick. Do you enter any of the fly fishing film contests?
Cheers from the northeast corner of the state.
We have not, thank you!
I'm from Arkansas I want to learn fly fishing so bad!
@@jamesf7448 Awesome!!!
What net holder is that at 4:52? I have tried a number of options and they work, but are not great. That looks easy grab and secure... not flopping all over. Loved the video.
Thank you! And all Joel has a handle taped to his net so he can slide it over his belt! Lively legz has a video on how to do it on there RUclips channel
Awesome video - the slingshot cast was incredible haha.
Couple of questions:
Song at the end? Was perfect when you were slaying the stream.
Also - what is that pink line?! Never seen that color and it was very pretty.
Thank you! Pink line is called OPST lazar line. And to be honest I’m not sure if the song name
Joel is a cool dude
legit camera work bro what are you running for camera and lens on the slomo?
Thank you! And Canon R5 / RF24-105
Great video brotha keep them comin
Appreciate that!
Love the vids just getting into fly fishing only been out a handful of times do you have any tips on getting started
Thank you! And fish your nymphs deep and with confidence, makes a big difference!
Nice. Video 👍
Thanks!
What are you using for bait on your fly rods that early in the season? worms or nymphs? Plus...I love that one of you is smoking his pipe while fly fishing with one hand. My kind of Friend. LOL
Where are you located. Allegheny County PA or Allegheny national forest in PA.
Wv quit having opening day years ago. I missed out on the experience
Would be cool to make your own tradition since they don’t have one! Pick a day and set it every year with some good friends!
Ah, ah 7:20 Joel catch is first fish of the year on video and he did it without the pinky line. Well done Joe.
Nice little Brookies, one after the other.
He came back with the pinkish line and cut some, they were probably blind brookies.
What’s the best way to find native streams? I live in western PA. I don’t even know where to start looking haha.
Honestly, just look at a map, find some water and public access and give it a try! Eventually you will find fish!
@@alleghenynative didn’t realize it was that simple. Thanks
@@MrDrax77775 half of the fun and challenge is finding them! Definitely rewarding as well. Goodluck!
Question gents, what is the sling pack that Joel uses? May as well run down the rod set up too. Thanks if you’d rather not announce it you can send me an email too.
Hey Jared! I believe it’s a Simms waist bag, not real sure on the specifics of it. I know it has the folding top with a buckle on it, and our rod sets up we’re a 10’ 2 weight rod with a 5 weight redington reel, with OPST lazar line, 5 foot sighter leader, 2 ft piece of 5x tippet to first fly, another 12 to 15” piece of tippet to the second fly.
What leader length do you use for small streams?
Normally around 9 feet
Cool video! Come out west!!!
Would love too someday!
What is the pink fly line the guy with the pipe is using?
It’s called OPST lazar line, great for nymphing and throwing streamers
Great video. Having lived in Montana my entire life, the concept of "opening trout day" seems so strange.
Haha I could definitely see how it could be strange! You can fish all year long in pa on a lot of streams but any designated trout stocked water has an opening day.
Some just dont understand what "opening day" is in pa.
Man o man, days on Farnsworth, tionesta, and the Allegheny
Absolutely!
Where are you guys out of? Beautiful videos.
Pennsylvania!
Ha ha! Where in Pennsylvania?
West central
Is that pink line Mono or a Fly line?
It’s a mono, it’s called OPST lazar line, pretty sweet stuff, very sensitive
15:20 the catch with still 9.5
Nothing says pa opening day like PIPE and GUN
thats a lot of sardines!
Haha why is my man packing heat at 4:53 😂
Haha you never know what could happen out there!
A kimber, too...that’s an expensive gun.
English or aromatic blend? Great video.
Once again my eldest brother has doubted my intelligence haha!!!
Wait... You have seasons...for trout? God, I love living in the west.
You can fish a lot of streams in PA all year long, it is certain stocked streams that they shut down one month prior for stocking purposes and then open up on a certain day
@@alleghenynative Got it! That makes sense now. I loved near Beaver, PA for a year, but was too busy with work and a newborn to fish. It was a hard year, haha.
I thought that was Steven Rinella smoking the pipe.
Love your vids. I've subscribed for a couple of years now, but, I think you filmed this before PA Opening Day. I was on the Allegheny Plateau in the ANF on Opening Day, April 3, and all the snow was gone. Not to be nit-picky, but open fire are banned in PA until green up.
Hey George, thanks for watching. And this was definitely filmed on the first day, believe it or not we actually got close to 3 inches of snow 2 days before season here in west central Pa. it was 20 degrees when we started that morning, also where we started fishing is private ground 👍🏼
FYI; Many areas in pa you get a Campfire Permit from DCNR , Forestry dept. or even a ranger can give you a go-ahead.
@@unclefuddelmer9224 The ANF is under the jurisdiction of the US Department of Agriculture. Until green-up, usually mid May, open burning is prohibited. That includes leaf burning and camp fires. I know this because I once paid a fine for a camp fire on my own front yard.
East coast stocked trout fishing 😂
Little creeks and gnarly stockers
A Kimber 1911...you boys don’t play around.
I SPOT AN OLE GREGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Haha sure do!
Ruger 1911?
Yep!
What happened to Caleb?
Caleb moved to Montana!
@@alleghenynative wow, ok
9:13 dolly varden .
Lots of slow mo dinks. Guys drinking coffee and smoking tobacco...lol flyfisherman are soooooooo cool aren't they?
good one, some of us just enjoy being out and telling our story, not a popularity contest
Got of like a guy smoking his pipe while fishing. 👍
Absolutely!
