That is so sad to see such a historical building like that to be ruined like that. Thank you for sharing this before it all comes crashing down. Way too many people now a days have no respect for the past.
I've driven by this place many times Jeff, and wondered about that old brick building. There was a trailer backed up to there for a while and then they were evicted and someone put up the fence around it to keep the homeless from camping out. Yes it is sad that history has been decimated and neglected. I have walked through that little cemetery wondering how many have been laid to rest that we will never know about. Thank you for your research and your time in bringing this video to our attention and I appreciate all that you do for your channel. Blessings to you and Sarah... I love the final question, and yes I do believe!
Thank you for your love of history. I just bought a plantation built in 1790 with a revolutionary war colonel buried in the backyard with his family. I will be restoring it at great expense. People think I’m crazy.
During the California Gold Rush, my great grandfather came from Sonora, Mexico, up “camino del diablo” to yuma crossing at 15 yrs old on his way to the Sierras. We found him in the 1852 census in “Chinese camp” near Sonora Ca. We don’t know if he found his riches in the gold fields, very few did, but he was around that area when this town was booming.

This is definitely your saddest video that I have been privileged to watch 😢 These were real people with real dreams. Let us never forget those who came before us to shape our country into a land of promise! I like several others aren't able to travel so your videos and history lessons are invaluable! Please keep up the awesome work you are doing. Destroying history is a black mark on our society and makes me ashamed.
Dramatic when the wind blows across the tall weeds where so many lay buried, names unknown by us, Their lives a mystery but they had many stories they could tell from the times they lived. Pioneers in what was a wilderness then. I love the era and love to hearing about it.
Seeing cemeteries destroyed simply hurts my heart. Thanks Jeff for sharing my local history. I learn more from you than what I was supposed to learn in school. Even books devoted to California history used in our schools today, don't share the knowledge that you provide. Has any school ever invited you to speak? If not, they are wasting a great resource! As always, thanks for sharing!
I lived in Northern California for 10 years and Southern California for 3 years. Traveled many of the major roads, visited monasteries, and all of the tourist traps but not once did I ever think about the things that you do. Since I have been watching you I now have many regrets about not doing some of the things that you do. But now, I rejoice in watching History Hunters simply because you make those that are no longer with us have a voice and you tell their stories with reverence.
Appreciated very much the background storyline and how you carried the ancestral heritage of these individuals forward. Neat biplane! Keep up the great work. Always look forward to your videos.
Wow Jeff! You did it again, brought back so many memories for me. When we first read your title, I was thinking, where the heck is Springfield, CA? I looked it up and shoot, in my high school years, I would drive up and visit a cousin that lived near Columbia State Park. I commented before we watched your video, shoot, its right off the departure end of Columbia Airport. Then, there you were! Off the departure end of the airport that I used fly out of over 40 years ago. Isn't it amazing, you can be so close to history and never know it. As a teen, was all over the area, never remembered Springfield. Thanks for bringing it to life, and showing the airplanes :)
I appreciate your work to bring to light our history. I'm a native of California 1944 - and I'm sad to see the damage and destruction of our cemetaries.
Springfield, CA ... The armory one of the employees at Columbia told me used to be a school house at one point too. I had no idea. There are archives in Columbia which I did not know existed either. I have been inside the Springfield cemetery.
Jeff it is incredible how much passion you have about history and especially the way you call out the out right desecration/vandalism of historical sites and people’s blatant disrespect of one of the most sacred places we have a cemetery! Keep up you great work. And may you always call it out as you see it.
I enjoy all of your videos including ones like this where little remains of the town. I live in Yuba City and am a History nerd. I love the cemeteries.
There were a few cemeteries in Rescue and Cameron Park CA that were being vandalized and eventually had to be cleaned up. Then some apartments were put in next to one of the cemeteries in Cameron Park, behind the Mountain Mike's pizza on Green Valley Rd. Lots of hidden history there, due to the Pony express going through Rescue. It's just to the south-west of Coloma.
It is a shame that someone has not maintained that cemetery. It is always interesting when a person can walk around and read the grave markers. Good video.
My father in laws family were in Springfield and mined there. I am so glad you did a video on Springfield, even if there is barely anything left. It is the History of the area and the gold miners who lived there. When I was in Columbia, there was a reenactment going on. One of the men dressed up as a civil war soldier in Columbia told me in character that Joseph Logan buried there at the Springfield cemetery was one of the men in his troop. It was really neat to be told the story in character.
Thank you so much for researching and showing us the history of so many famous and not so famous places. I am a native N. California and love history. Never knew Springfield, CA existed. When I was a child my Mom used to take us on day trips to historical places. We lived in Corning, CA, so they were places near Redding, Chico and Oroville. You are a wealth of treasured historical information! I appreciate all you do!
@@jbenziggy That's cool! I have one brother that still lives in Corning and One that lives in Los Molinas 🙂. Thanks again Jeff and Sarah for all your fine content!

There are many bodies under the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. You used to be able to see broken pieces of gravestones used for walls in McClaren Park. The whole removal of the bodies to Colma was very controversial.

Good morning Jeff and Sarah, Hope your weekend is going good. I don't know how you manage to maintain a career and home life with all that you have going on. Another Great video to have dinner and watch....You make my Sunday dinners.. Great job History Hunters..
Another video well done. It is very sad to see historical locations disappear from existence. The airplane was cool to see in the air. Thank you,Jeff for your research, documenting, and sharing these locations. Keep up the great work.
Thank you, love watching your videos☕️
What a nice way to end the evening.
Thanks for the tour. Always look forward to the next. See what surprises are in store.
Very nice job on this video and thank you for doing all the research. I looked up the Uzzell's and will go visit their graves here in Denver.
Please do!
Thanks for another great vid! I love seeing the places even when the history is crumbling away. Even if there are only a few reminders left, you can feel what once was.
