@@DavidHarperAntiques As soon a you showed the listing my first thought was the same. In the photo that is just showing a listed price as you know. Not a sold price. I have seen other things listed like this and thought the same as them.
The coin to which you are referring is worth more if it has the wrong date on it. We were originally meant to leave the EU in October 2019 but this was delayed and some of the coins had the October date printed on them and it is these which carry a high price
I had the Kew Gardens 50p coin and clearly remember spending it as I stood in line at the office sandwich van and bought a sausage roll with it!!! Many months later when I realised what I had a part of me cried inside! 😢
There’s a car dealer near where I live. He is barely there. Rare that cars get sold. Cars are somewhat over priced. Yet his wealthy looking chap, my best guess is it’s a front for washing money. Just like these coins on eBay for stupid money
One pound fifty is 200% profit and also worth keeping for the future. I check every 50p and £2 I get in my change. I thought every one into collectables would love coins with pictures on! Something doesn't have to be worth half a million to bother with. I look for four leaf clovers. One in ten thousand clovers has four leaves. It's exciting when you find one and they just cost you time.
I'm in my local post office every week. I saved my first King Charles 50p from them (January 2023?). The PO said they won't get any more as each PO only gets a specific limited amount. I've never seen another King 50p in any change since (I saw a couple before from people I know). It's unusual because it has no date on it. Never seen any other King coins either but I have the full set of notes 🙂
The 1972 Isle of Man 'viking ship' 50p is worth over £1k ....There are also Mule 50p's from the early 80's worth over £800 ...as i'm writing this I can't remember the one. So if anyone asks what are the rarest ....these are 2 of them.
@@DavidHarperAntiques It is, my Aunt does end of renting cleaning for estate agents and was asked if she could get rid of a load of items in the house, My Uncle helped and he found a King Charles III Gold proof 50p 2024...only 103 minted. I brought it off them. Both was shocked at the price
People list things on Ebay for all sorts of ridiculous amounts. It doesn't, of course, mean anybody will actually buy it. Tick the "sold" option when searching, and the true value of the item will be revealed.
Don't confuse listing prices for value/worth or sale prices. There are a lot of people who list things for extortionate amounts. There was a converted bus for 1,000,000 buy it now, a week later it was on for 135,000, I strongly suspect it will sell for less than 50,000
When Britain joined the common market i remember when Ted Heath signed it someone chucked ink over him . The old 50P was had 8 or 9 hands on it on the back they still selling on EBay now and again David . Who ever is selling that 50p will not even get that amount of money for it as even the silver ones don't even go for that price .
a Kew gardens 50p was on bargain hunt recently..and sold at Auction for....£180....check your change guys..I have 3 of them Brexit coins by the way..am I rich????lol 😆
Brexit coins don't turn up here, alas, but oddities are always worth a few quid. I can imagine that mint uncirculated from right before the Lockdown would be part of it. The one from David's pocket is probably worth...50p.
I've got three of these, if anybody wants one, I'm sure we can come to some arrangement?got a load of others, some threepenny pieces and some £2 odd coins again if anyone is interested?
oh dear David....bit naughty....as others have said, one must check what things actually sold for, not what they are being offered for on ebay...Incidently, interesting you picked the Brexit coin.I believe there are some coins out there with a different year. The Royal Mint struck a load of coins to celebrate Brexit but due to the long drawn out process, they had to be melted down and a new year was restruck. A few of these coins seem to have escaped and are in general circulation or with collectors. These ones are worth quite a bit, but nothing like £ 1/2 M
I've got a mint Brexit 50p on a card and I treasure it. I just want it for what it represents not for how much Ebay is prepared to raffle it off for. The Atlantic salmon one is already hitting hundreds of pounds to buy. It's a nice coin, attractive, and certainly quite rare. It's feasible that if there are rare Brexit 50ps there might be those with misprints or incorrect dates.
Thats rubbish they only worth 50p. Kew gardens is worth around 400 pounds cos there was only 100k made. Thats the rarest 50p. People put them on ebay for thousands but its scams. Keep looking down you'll find them for a quid
But it was not clear. You come across that this is a genuine 50p. Bit deceiving really mate. Not a great video and I thought you were genuine in all your other ones. Not great!
David. You may be an expert in antiques but clearly you are not an expert in numismatics. There are absolutely no 50p coins, whether circulated, uncirculated, proof, gold, whatever are worth anything like that or even close and the same goes for any UK minted coin, even those hundreds of years old.
Expert on radio 4 last week (proper expert) said that they could be worth up tp £5.00. I have just put an old worn out deck shoe of mine on Ebay for £2.4 million, like the coin for £500k I have had no interest. This video once again from this bloke is misleading and desperate. Good dealers do not need to be on TV or RUclips to make money nor do they need gimmicks
It’s a bit of an irritating video because the pertinent info could have been disseminated in less than 30 seconds, suggesting the video wasn’t made for the benefit of viewers but to rack up viewing minutes for YT algorithms. Not that there was any new information revealed anyway! Just my opinion 🎉
@@Silfrfish Plenty of new info for me…I didn’t know what the shape was called, when the 50p was introduced, how many versions there are, which are the rarest and that people a really ask intergalactic money for these things…it’s another world!
I can't help thinking that the astronomically high prices asked for some of the coins on Ebay are linked to money laundering.
Never thought about that!
They are just bullshit amounts put there just in case they can find an idiot.
You only ever take the sold prices on ebay seriously.

85p postage? Outrageous!
I did think that…second class too!
The version of this coin that is worth a lot of money is the one with different dates on each side. That is the rare coin👍

@@DavidHarperAntiques They are the only thing that matters.
Sorry mate that's not the coin with the wrong date. It's only worth 50p.
I explain at the end of the video!
There's allegedly a Brexit variant 50p with the wrong exit date minted on it. That would be worth quite a bit, although nowhere near half a million.
I’ll keep my eyes peeled!
