- Welcome to the Insane Asylum where, for some reason, I'm going to answer the burning question: Is it possible to beat Five Nights at Freddy's without using the lights?
As you may know, Five Nights at Freddy's is a popular survival horror game that requires you to survive five nights while being trapped in a pizzeria with malfunctioning animatronics.
Today, I will take on the challenge of beating the game without using the lights. I'll be sharing my gameplay experience with you, my thoughts and reactions as I try to survive every night without relying on the lights.
So if you're ready to find out if it's possible to beat Five Nights at Freddy's without using the lights, be sure to watch this video. Don't forget to like and subscribe for more gaming content, and let me know in the comments any other challenges or games you what to see me try!

I 100% should have mentioned this in the video but the light usage at 16:09 is from my footage run of the game. I used clips throughout the video from a regular playthrough mixed in with actual clips from the challenge. It's so I don't repeat the exact same clips over and over again since majority of the challenge is sitting and listening. Sorry for not clarifying this earlier.

Beating a game without utilizing one of its main mechanics is gotta be one of my favorite genres.
That's why I'm here 🤣🤣🤣
Especially since it’s the only one that’s possible with this game. If you don’t use cameras, foxy and Freddy will drain your power, and if you don’t use doors…well you would need astronomical luck.
@@YoloYester94 I’m sure it’s possible to beat the game without using the cameras, just insanely difficult
BAGWUOOIMM Nights at Freddy’s

You actually don't need to be staring at specifically Foxy's cam for his movement to fail-- being in the cameras at all will lock him. So honestly so long as you focus your attention on Bonnie and Chica while only occasionally checking for Foxy, the first few nights are cake
he also implies the fact at 12:20 ish which is even wirder
@@marcusantonius9569 it's probably because it's still helpful to know what stage foxy is at
@@toxicannon3670 If you look at the cams a lot
You don't need to do it that much
@captain price is an absolute chad trust me, I've played 4/20 mode it's really helpful even if you look at cams a lot
@@Enexinity 4/20 mode is a different story, it's the hardest mode after all, but on every other night looking at foxy more than once a hour is pretty pointless (and honestly doing it on 4/20 is also pretty pointless, looking at him only when chica's at the door is most optimal)
This feels like what the game was meant to be. A security guard needing to know where everyone is at all times.
That’s so true
If anyone was wondering, what makes Freddy special is that he follows a similar path as Chica, but he will never progress backwards when he has a movement opportunity. If you manage to deter him with the doors, then he will retreat back to Camera 4A.
So once he gets to the hallway, he never leaves the hallway?

Small detail: At 22:25, you actually did try to close Bonnie's door. If you pay attention, you can see your mouse move to the left door button and hear the door failure sound effect. That sound only plays if you try to close the door when Bonnie or Chica have already moved into the "attack when camera is up" phase. Now watch the timer from when you hear him move to when you die. 4 seconds. It took that little hesitation for Bonnie to move from closet to direct kill. If that doesn't emphasize how tough the challenge is, I don't know what will. Nice job surviving that ordeal, and cool video as well!
I've never played the game. How long does "door failure" work? Once you hear that sound does that mean you will lose or does it last a certain amount of time before you can close it again?
@@rosestar1324 it's like freddy power outage, just shorter so you have to be luckier to win in that situation
@@rosestar1324 Once you hear that sound, it means that an animatronic is "in the room". That means there's a (high) chance every second that the animatronic will attack you and make you lose the night. When you hear the door failure sound, it's essentially just a matter of time before you lose.
@@julian3541 incorrect. Bonnie and Chica only kill the player when they pull the camera down, or when they pull the camera down after you pull it up and try to hide in it
@@furiouscorgi6614 yeah, which means you can survive Bonnie and Chica if you never use the Camer......unfortunately if you never use the camera Foxy and Freddy will mutilate you
Even though the developer obviously intended for lights to be a very important feature in this game, I think this way of playing by having to keep track of every single animatronic through cameras conveys a much more interesting and scary experience and feels much more authentic to the original intent of the game. In later nights it just becomes somewhat tedious and predictable with only having to check on both Freddy and Foxy while only using lights for Bonnie and Chica.
He definitely realized this in Sister Location with the Ennard boss night.
I think this is why the Fnac fangame straight up doesn't have lights for two of the animatronics, one of them being able to come from either door. It makes a lot more sense that one has to keep close watch of both cameras and still instantly close the door, instead of looking at the cameras actively being suboptimal.
I don’t know why, but it really bothers me when people refer to Scott as “the developer”. Also, in my opinion, the cams only really exist to make people panic and overreact to the animatronics’ every move. Bonnie offstage? Close both doors. Someone in the hall? Close the corresponding door. Someone in the hall corner? Close the corresponding door again (likely right after opening it). Bonnie in the supply closet? Well he clearly get to you from there. But then he does and he kills you night 1/2. Unlike FNaF 2+, the only mechanic Scott explains is Foxy.
@@lpfan4491fnac?
@@ayuballena8217five nights at candys, and they’re referring to the character old candy and another hidden secret night 5-6 character: you don’t have door lights and while most other animatronics you can see the eyes of, they don’t have any so it’s a lot scarier:
i think you can hear them approach, as they make a low humming sound at either door they are at, it’s subtle but you gotta be good at picking up on it.
I know this because i have played the 20 mode for FNAC because when i was younger i was too poor to buy actual FNAF, but uh, yeah- it’s essentially the same here, there may not be the hum but you can use the footsteps to tell if someone is lurking at your door
13:30 After rewatching Markipliers playthrough, this happened to Mark with Bonnie being the culprit. Bonnie stood there for half the damn night and left Mark at 35% with 3 hours to go.
“Go away. Nobody likes you! -opens door-, He’s still there!”-Markimoo
Fun fact: The AI can go above 20, but it will do nothing because each unit higher increases the odds of moving by 5%, so for example, a level of 21 would be a 105% chance, which would be the same as 100%.
You know, I get the feeling Scott wanted players to have to use their eyes and ears to beat the animatronics, but didn't know that door lights would go against that kind of game design. Its funny how removing one game mechanic will get you closer to the way the game is meant to be played.
Yeah, this is honestly much more fun than regularly using the door lights for a split second to check for bonnie and chica.
I believe he realized this in Sister Location with Ennard’s fight.
You aren't even supposed to use the camera to directly watch foxy
@Fork God's Descendant Yeah, I think he did something similar in FNaF 4 and 6 too, with the sound cues being pretty much the only way to beat them and lights being pretty useless to check if theyre there- So you can't just check periodically if they're there and close doors to combat them, you have to listen very carefully for the sound cues to know generally where they are
@@aquamarena wrong, if they arent there using the light gets them away, and if chica is a the hall she can send her cupcake to kill you. Also, freddles.
@Greened Oh yeah no I know, I just meant in terms of knowing when to close the door, the light won't help you. It's still important, but I think Scott made the audio cues a lot more integral to the game play in 4

15:48 based on this, while incredibly rare, it would take an immeasurable number of tries, but it is entirely possible one could beat the game by just keeping the doors closed and getting lucky enough that Freddy just doesn't attack for the remainder after power goes out.
There’s a cap on how long Freddy can wait in the darkness as well; he just didn’t mention that.
@@namesmittwhat is the cap?
@@m.l.7558 20 seconds for phase 1 and 2, and 10 seconds for phase 3
@@ThePikminCaptainthat's not true, I've gone plenty of runs with the last phase being ridiculously long, close to 30 seconds. I'm not an expert on the ai, but just based off my experience that doesn't seem to be true
But then Foxxy hitting your door steals power
A detail is that there's an audio cue for everything near you. You can actively hear the animatronics stomp nearby the door to give you a good subtle cue as to how close they are.
It’s kind of funny that the thumbnail shows the two characters that can’t be seen with the lights in a no lights challenge
Yeah
That's an example of irony.
I think I remember someone who looked at the game’s code saying that Foxy doesn’t care if you’re looking at pirate’s cove - he only cares about cam usage in general apparently, at least for the first game.
Wouldn't 4-20 mode be hypothetically easier than some of the other difficulties? If the animatronics are guaranteed to move, then successfully blocking them will for sure make them move as soon as possible (except for Freddy of course). And once Freddy makes it to his corner, you pretty much have to leave that door closed anyway, so you can disregard Chica as well. It certainly won't be easy, but I'd think the consistency would be beneficial.
You can cam stall Freddy, you don't actually have to look at Foxy.
Different for sure, but not necessarily harder
sometimes doors don't stop freddy since he sneaks in really fast. In 4-20 mode he moves straight to the e hall corner which makes it much tighter. sure bonnie and chica move away from the door but when the player reopens the doors they're probably approaching the office a second time. Foxy will also be a threat because you have to watch him to see when he's attacking but since freddy has an ai difficulty of 20 then he would attack you almost straight away. 4-20 mode is much harder than you think
@@trueexcalibur21Freddy literally can't kill you if you're cam-stalling. He can only enter your room if The Camera is up with the door open, WHILE NOT watching him.
And for Foxy, as long as the camera is up at an X:X5 interval, Foxy will not move, and it doesn't matter if you're on his camera or not. As long as the cameras are being used, he won't move.
The world record for the Highest power left for 4/20 is 26%
You get 29% power for the whole night when you remove the passive power loss.
@@Cerise__ its still harder than night 6
Actually... as DJ Sterf (I think that's his name) proved, all you need to win at FNAF1, is the left door. If you close and open the door at precise moments, you can actually win. Chica will get into your office, but she will never jump you unless you pull the camera up (and Freddy won't touch you either). You just open and close the door to block Foxy and Bonnie each time they go toyour door, and since all you're doing is opening and closing the left door for a fraction of a second, you can afford to lose power to Foxy banging on your door. DJ Sterf somehow mapped out each possible second that Bonnie or Foxy could attempt to enter the office, and closes the door for only a split second to block them each time, and was able to win by ONLY using the left door and nothing else.
do you have a link to that strategy?
@@alexbluer I don't normally post links except in replies because the YT algorithm *REALLY* hates that. ruclips.net/video/5w9fbixTs2w/видео.html

@@ragerasse7616
Foxy would be too agressive and drain too much power, but he said if you play normally, you could probably do that strat in the last minute of the night.
You can actually beat the game without the left door if you lower your fps to 2 because Foxy’s movement was accidentally tied to the framerate.
Pro tip: you don't actually have to stare at foxy's pirate cove camera to stop him from attacking, as long as the cameras are ON, he will not move regardless of you are watching him or not.
i think he already knows that, he was just checking to see what position foxy was in

25:25
Bro says the word f**k 8x and pretty much counts to 6am using that word.
What weirds me out is that night 6 is actually slighty HARDER than 4/20 mode. Since the animatronics will always move in 4/20 mode, they won't use up as much power when they're at the door, unlike night 6 where they don't always move meaning that they'll use MORE power when they're at the door. This also means that you will almost, never get double teamed by bonnie and chica, which means that you will, again, lose less power
i find it so happy there's someone else in this comment section who understands this. i know this game an obscene amount and i always struggle more with night 6
On the other hand, 4/20 mode is so precision-demanding that if you make even one mistake your run instantly ends (usually to Freddy), whereas on Night 6 you can play carelessly and still win sometimes. It really depends on whether or not 8 and a half minutes of absolutely perfect execution is easier than Night 6's normal but more random mechanics.
I guess it depends on whether or not you struggle with power management
it's more annoying but NOT easier than 4/20 mode, not in the slightest

People often forget that you don’t have to look at Foxy on the cameras for his movement opportunities to fail. You can look at _any_ camera for his movement opportunities to fail. Therefore, if you want to stall both Freddy and Foxy from coming into your office, just look at Freddy (who DOES need direct camera contact)
In the first couple nights for this challenge, where Mr. Fazbear isn’t even a threat, you can rest easy using the cameras very often to search for Bonnie and Chica because checking on them already stalls Foxy
11:28 Scott making the first game: ok in the west hall Bonnie can go to your corner then to your door but cant jump right to your door from the west hall but he can go to the supply closet, then he can jump right to your door-
You know, I've experienced Bonnie's Supply Closet attack a few times, both myself and from some unlucky RUclipsrs. I always assumed Bonnie just got perfect rolls, but this makes so much more sense; thank you for explaining it! I guess it's true, he really can teleport...
4:54 I will never forget the time where I was messing around on night one for fun and I got jumpscared by foxy because I wasn't paying attention. It scared me so bad lmao.
Almost nobody knew foxy was active on night 1, only people who knew beforehand was just unluck at its bitchiest.
Not gonna lie, but not using lights in this game makes up for a REALLY stressful game. I mean, it may be frustrating, but you're constantly trying to listen to the noises and because of other red hearings and white noices (thanks to Scruffy's video on sounds for that), listening becomes even WORSE. Absolutely great challenge that enhances the whole nightmare scenario, because you still can protect yourself from animatronics... its just that you have less information on when you can do that
NOTE: 7:45
you dont have to on foxy's cam to stop his movement, simply checking the camera will stop it. If you want to learn how this is put in practice, look up a 20/20/20/20 fnaf 1 new strat.
I think another challenge similar to this, except without using the camera’s would be good too. Foxy and Freddy would definitely be the main problems since the camera is how you can slow them down, and you can’f use the lights to see them. Foxy especially considering there would be bo real way to see him coming so you either close the door at the right time and get lucky or keep it closed the whole time and lose lots of power, on top of the fact he takes power from banging on the door.
Actually, Freddy can't enter the West Hall Corner when the right light is on. Kinda weird but it's how the game works.

This would’ve been helpful for you to know ahead of time, but you don’t actually need to check Pirate Cove specifically to get Foxy to fail his checks. There’s a good video on youtube about the FNAF 1 ai that explains that Foxy only checks for if you have the camera open, not which camera you’re looking at. I absolutely love your content! Ideas are 10/10, editing is 12/10, your speaking manner and everything is 15/10. Keep it up, i love you
I like the research and strategies used to complete this challenge. Good job bro.
The 3008 music on the background is so good
You got so lucky at the end with Freddy stalling so long to kill you. Based on the statistics you showed us for the percent chances of him actually waiting so long, it’s kinda crazy.
I played FNAF 1 for the first time a few weeks back...
I died on night one. To Foxy. On my literal first try.
I dont know how you did that, but you have my respects
That’s actually impossible, his AI is at 0 until night 2.
@@sethhansen4454 did you even watch the video my man
@@sethhansen4454 THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT TOO
I was completely confused when it happened. I don't blame you for being wrong, because I was in the same boat until it happened
@@sethhansen4454 you actually have a chance of foxy attacking, it’s just very low. In this video you see him peeking from the curtains while Chicken was playing, and I’ve also seen videos of Foxy running on night one. Again, low chance, but possible. It’s just that he usually triggers too late in the night to attack, or not at all.
Fun fact: 4/20 mode is possible without doing literally anything.. you just need your game set at 2fps. The creetures cant jumpscare you unless you cam (except foxy), but foxy counts frames to determine when he jumpscares you. 1500 to be specific, sooooo.. if you just keep your frame rate down you’re good.
So Lag switch the game?
Dudes with crappy PCs are overjoyed
25:46 [Freddy I love you bro]
Those words got me 😂
Actually, night 2 is the most inconsistent and hardest night for speedruns because it and night 1 are the most likely for the two to be stuck at the door because of the low difficulty setting, but unlike night 1 they're active immediately so you don't get 2 hours of freedom with power.
I was wondering how you theoretically speedrun a game that has set timed nights but I'm guessing you just go through without trying to lose a single time. Would that mean a deathless run would be the fastest time ?
@@halinaqi2194 Considering that every night lasts the same amount of time regardless of power or anything else. The fastest run would be a deathless run. There might be menu-ing in-between the nights (If there is any,) but besides that, I'm pretty sure a deathless run would be fastest.
@@halinaqi2194 the fnaf speedruns are less of beating the game as fast as possible and just a showcase of the best way to play the game through a deathless run. DJ Sterf's FNAF 1 speedrun even gets the timing on the section changes wrong but it's a chill run so it wasn't really an issue. I think a tool assisted superplay would be way cooler than a tool assisted speedrun.
Night 5 was the hardest night for me, Bonnie stayed at my door for 3 MINUTES!
@@YuriChan640 that's just unlucky as hell.
really nice to see you continue to grow, still nowhere near as much support as you deserve but you’re getting closer. awesome work man
Thank you!!!
Technically another way to tell if Bonnie and chica is close in night 4 is you hear a distorted robotic noice and see chica and Bonnie twitching wildly
The explanations in this video towards the beginning and through night 1 actually taught me quite a lot. I'm considering actually playing the first game now, using some info from this as a strategy guide. (I kinda avoid the main games bc i can't handle jumpscares very well. Maybe i'll work up thr courage to try fnaf3 some day since people say it's not scary? the footage i've seen, springtrap is mostly just super annoying)
